From 2007 comes this short 2 episode drama that starred Masami called Ganges Gawa de Butterfly, what the title really refers to is Masami going to the Ganges River in India to swim the butterfly.
Masami plays a 3rd year university student named Teruko who's rather timid and hasn't had much in the way of any kind of experiences in her life, this comes out when she applied for a summer/intern job at a company and the interviewers and herslf realized she has done for the most part nothing in her life. At the interview she blurted out by mistake that she had swum in the Gnages River to the disbelief of everyone there, this was where her adventure started.
Really not going to go too much into depth or give any major spoilers, but was happens next is that Teruko takes her meager savings and travels to India to swim in the river. Along the way many, many odd ball things happen to her such as getting swindled by another young man from Japan, has such difficulties fitting in among the people in India, meets a family and briefly moves in with them and also meets another older woman from Japan who is a photographer but lives there now, full time.
Sure Teruko has many minor problems and events but none of them are really all too tragic, things always work out, even though she was swindled she gets her things back, though she can;t speak the language somehow fits in okay in the country, always seems to meet people who speak Japanese(!). Eventually Teruko makes it to the Ganges River and is able to swim the butterfly in it, every one thought she was quite strange doing it and it was prohibited but they didn't carry that storyline over at all. So like most fluffy, young adult/teen dramas everything turned out nice in the end, Teruko returned to Japan and triumphantly marched back to her interviewers to tell them she had gone to India and had swum in the river, which is where the story ends,
If you haven't seen it you're really not missing all that much but overall it was an enjoyable watch, quite funny at times too as Masami played her character very well. If you're a Masami fan it's one that really should be seen, for anyone else still think it's worth a watch, nothing classic or memorable about it, pure fluff but a fun watch, you could do a lot worse than this and you won't be giving up a lot of time as it's only a bit over 90 minutes, would rate this 7.5/10, not highly recommended but one you may enjoy. Check out the next post for many Masami screenshots from the drama.
