Ghost Mama Sousasen: episode one synopsis and review
For Erika's and Masami's latest dramas instead of waiting for them to finish to review them and have a mega amount of screenshots from them did those two on a weekly basis which seemed to work out better, lot of people were more interested in how that was done and got a lot more views on those posts so decided to do another new drama that way and picked Yukie's new show which started last week, Ghost Mama Sousasen(investigation).
Will try to keep this a bit brief and simple, actually it started put quite simple so it'll be easy to explain. Choko Uehara(Yukie) is a police officer who is married with two children, one son starting first grade and her daughter who is in high school though it's not her real daughter but is her husband's though it never came out as whether he was married before or not. During one shift 3 months prior there was a house fire and Choko rushed to the scene and helped everyine to safety or so she thought but there was one more little boy in the house. Choko rushed in to save the boy and protected him from the fire but passed out before leaving the house, the firefighters rushed in to save both but couldn't save Choko.
Though Choko has died her spirit is still living on in the world but no one can see her until one day when her son Tonbo, who needed glasses, picked her old set up off the altar and tried them on and could see perfectly but what he also could see was the spirit of his deceased mother! He could also talk normally with her but naturally when he told everyone else this they of course didn't believe him, when they tried the glasses on they couldn't see her, hasn't come out why yet but Tonbo is the only person who can see her wearing the glasses. The first episode ends up with the police discovering that the fire Choko died in was an arson and Choko's spirit found out who the culprit was but couldn't do anything about it so the resorted to using Tonbo as the go-between in telling the police the information. They didn't believe him so he tried to get evidence in watching the arsonist try to set another fire but the criminal noticed him and was about to get the evidence back when luckily Choko's ex-boss at the police force came upon the scene and captured the culprit, bit of a cheesy ending but there have been worse, actually too many dramas end on a note like that.
Guess for the first episode the term 'so far so good' applies, it was an enjoyable watch with much potential to be a good series but also has potential to slip, let's hope that doesn't happen. Yukie turned in a solid performance, besides the Trick dramas have always thought her movies were better than her shows so hoping this will end up being better than some of her previous efforts. Rest of the cast also did well, her young son Tonbo had the second biggest part in the first episode, hoping Ikki and Mirai's roles expand a bit more as they're both quite good. Ratings started off well, summer dramas usually score lower than winter shows but think this started off with a 15.2% rating which is solid and also good for a Saturday night. Stay tuned every week as I'll be doing a mini review of this series with plenty of screenshots from it, check out the next 2 posts for many, many shots of Yukie from this first show.
