Japanese movie Cruel Restaurant synopsis and review

Oddball movie to put it mildly but sort of a fun watch, starts off a bit slow but guess that's for a reason as the second half of the movie really turns into one gore fest and Mihiro, who I had never heard of before, was certainly one cutie and is worth checking out more by her.

Lin (Mihiro) and Chin own a very popular dumpling restaurant, there's a line of people always waiting to get in and that's because they all come for the superb tasting dumplings, why are they the best tasting ones around? That's what many others want to know too including a pair of detectives, a tabloid reporter and a woman who's sister has gone missing and thinks they're the reason for that, she actually thinks they've killed her and served her as the filling for the dumplings! The detectives also think there is something like that going on, the number of missing people in the area has increased rapidly, they constantly stake out the restaurant hoping to find them in the act of killing people or serving them in their dumplings but always fail. One detective finds it hard to believe that someone as nice and cute as Lin could do something like that, he thinks it must be the chef Chin, this guy is one strange character, one you don't want to mess with as everyone finds out as he becomes the main suspect in the possible killings of the area people.

Film is only 71 minutes long and the first 25 or so are a bit slow as they introduce all the characters and set up the backgrounds of all but after that point it really explodes into constant killing, dismembering and some kinky sex always involving Lin. Besides the strangeness of Chin, Lin is also a bit demented, she has many nightmares where's she's killing others in a very sadistic way and also having hordes of kinky sex, they're nightmares but could they actually be happening or did happen, for being one quiet and sweet woman she also was quite a mystery. As mentioned the second half is quite action and gore packed, mainly the doing of Chin as anyone who gets close to Lin ends up being a target of his and he successfully tortures and kills them all, so are the remains of his victims ending up in the tasting dumplings of his? Well at the very end when his derangement has gone over the top the answer to that is now, he admitted to all the killings but never once put any human parts in the dumplings, soon after this he ended taking his own life in a brutal way as he bit through his wrist(!), quite a sight to behold was that. Yet if it wasn't humans in the dumplings then where did the great taste of them come from, this was also answered at the very end as one of the detectives spied on Lin as she was doing a very sick sexual act with herself, won't give away the disgusting acts she was doing but the strange yet great taste of the dumplings were all her doings, something you need to see to actually believe.

If you like these sort of fun, gory, violent and sexy films that would recommend this one for you, not the best  in it's genre but was a fun watch, actually enjoyed this quite a bit. First half was a bit slow but effective as it made the second half all that much more better, sort of like night and day, unknown how much fake blood was used in the second half but most of the budget for this cheapie film probably went for that. No stars or any other faces I've seen before but for most part they did a fine job, good b-movies need campy actors like these and they really were, Mihiro, who goes by only that name, was one cutie and is known a bit for other things, lot of that was work in AV films. Rating for this would be a 7.5/10, better films like this but this was a decent watch, especially the second half so if you like really strange films in this vein would recommend it, I enjoyed it and am not a big fan of these kinds of film but it never dragged and the plot was fairly good so would say it's worth a watch, check out the next two posts for many, many screenshots from the film.
