Tokyo Zenryoku Shoujo: episode 1 synopsis and review
First episode of Emi's new drama aired last Wednesday and luckily it's going to be subbed, first episode already has been so here's a quickie review of it, though not too much really happened during this episode as we were just introduced to the main characters and basic story found myself really enjoying it, Emi plays one funny and spunky person.
Emi plays 19 year old Urara Saeki, also known as Rei, who travels to Tokyo from her small town in Shikoku to find her father who she hasn't seen for 15 years, her father and mother had divorced way back then and Rei didn't know him at all, as a matter of fact her mother had said for the longest time that he was dead but when she learned the truth it she cleaned out her bank account and it was off to Tokyo to find him! This was her only aim in going to Tokyo as far as the first episode went as she had no other plans when she got there such as finding a job or going to school, don't even know what she was doing in Shikoku as it doesn't appear as she was working or going to school there either. Once in Tokyo her first task was to find a place to live which she did rather easily but before she could pay the rent all the money, 621,000 yen, was stolen from her purse at a clothing store leaving her with no where to turn to. At the store she had been helped by a clerk Hanako(Manami) who had set her purse down while helping her and that's when the money was stolen, feeling guilty Hanako vowed to help her out. She brought Rei to a friend of hers who was willing to help her out but only by giving her the money to return home, during this exchange it came out why, this man named Takuya Suzuki was actually her father! Talk about a one in a million chance encounter but although he still had feelings for Rei and her mother he was leading a different life now as a lawyer and had no time for her and wanted her to go back home, though she went through the motions of doing that she fooled him and stayed in Tokyo.
Rei ended up following her father around for the rest of the day, all this that I've said has happened has been in just one day, following him around has given her a few crazy and inaccurate ideas about the kind of person he is and finally corners him that evening back at his apartment. Once again he said she needed to leave Tokyo but upon giving his apartment an examination she found out what a messy, uncontrolled life he was leading, she said now she was going to stay with him and get his life back to normal, against his objections of course and proceeded to fall asleep on his bed as the first episode came to it's conclusion.
All of that happened in one day as much needed to be explained about Rei and her father but still not sure where this storyline will be going. You'd think now with the two of them living together all sorts of events are going to happen to them and it probably will but not sure if that will be an interesting enough story to keep this drama so entertaining. This first episode was a real fun watch, Emi was so good as such a cheerful, spunky young gal on her first trip to Tokyo and even though all her money was stolen managed to stay mostly upbeat about it. Except for her father and Hanako we didn't meet many other characters except for a few brief scenes and hopefully this will change as some looked to be quite interesting, overall for this first show would give it a solid recommendation, I really enjoyed it and hopefully it can keep the high pace it started with up. Check out the next two posts for many screenshots from this episode with Emi and Manami.
