Kie Kitano: Miracle World 2008 TV movie recap
As you can see by the DVD cover the main reason I bought this was because of Erika, bought it about 5 years ago and having Kii in it was a nice surprise. A nice surprise because at the time I had never heard of her, so this was the first time I watched her in anything and as they say the rest is history, her short movie was superb. This has been a series since 1991, one or two of these movies air every year, also have 2 other DVDs of this and both are really solid watches, would highly recommend these TV movies, it also goes under the name of "Yonimo Kimyona Monogatari".
Kii plays the character of Junko, a second year high school student who had just transferred to a new school. There she couldn't make any friends until one day she happens to meet Sachiyo and the two quickly strike up a good friendship. However Sachiyo was a bit of an outcast and when the "cool" students asked Junko to be their friend she turned her back on Sachiyo which naturally really hurt her.
The main plot of this movie is that one day Junko wakes up in the nurse's office to find out she's dead! At least her physical body is but for some unexplained reason her spirit is alive and can move around though she can't talk to anyone nor have any physical contact with any object. She didn't realize at first that she had died until she went to her classroom where all the other students were grieving over her death. That's when Junko realized she was a spirit, one who was also slowly disappearing and it looks like she won't be long being a spirit, will there be time for her to solve the mystery of her death.
She's learned that she fell off the school roof, everyone is calling it a suicide and Junko can't believe it, she didn't want to kill herself. Also when she was in the classroom she heard many of her new 'friends' talking about her and they weren't saying many nice things about Junko, seems as though she died friendless.
Eventually the real reason for her death comes out and that was because Sachiyo had pushed Junko off the roof, she was still devastated over how Junko turned her back to her. Now Sachiyo was so distraught and wished she could take what happened back and guess what, that's what happened. When she was confessing to the teachers about what she did Junko comes racing to the scene and really sending a shock to everyone who thought she was dead. Well Junko wasn't dead and said everyone had made a mistake in thinking so, they were wondering if they were looking at a spirit. They weren't looking at a spirit as somehow Junko had come back to life, how was never explained, guess someone high above was giving her one last chance to set things right in her life. Junko and Sachiyo tearfully made up and were back to being the best of friends, Junko had learned that those new friends were anything but that and so the short movie ends on a happy note.
Short review but the movie was only 22 minutes long, these specials consist of segments a little over 20 minutes. This aired on TBS back on April 2, 2008, in a way it's referred to as sort of a Twilight Zone copy. If you get the chance to watch this would highly suggest it, sort of a sappy ending but I really enjoyed it so much, Kii was excellent in it, she usually is in all her dramas and movies. As far as her kawaiiness level went it was unmatched, Kii is just so incredibly cute, check out many more screenshots of her cuteness in the next post.
