Much prefer watching Korean dramas these days as they truly blow away most of the Japanese series. Reason I haven't watched as many or done more recaps is that an episode is usually about an hour long and sometimes close to seventy minutes. However in this series the shows are much shorter, first episode was 27 minutes while the rest will be around 32 minutes and how I wish there were many more with lengths like this drama.

Main reason for watching this is that Yeon-Hee is starring in it and she may be my fave Korean actress. Have seen her in two dramas, "Ghost/Phantom" from 2012 which was an excellent series. Not as good but still a fine watch was "Miss Korea" from 2013-14, perhaps only two series but they did total forty episodes.
We didn't see too much of Yeon-hee in the second episode and expect that to happen in the third show as well. The drama is split between the years 2005 and 2017 so someone else plays her younger character though we may not be seeing too much of that younger character after the next episode.
The shows flip flop back on a constant basis between 2005 and 2017, what may make it easier to follow is to describe what happened in the year 2005 first then move on to the present time. To make it easier to follow also is that the main male character Hae-Sung has died in 2005 but somehow has come back to life in 2017. So far through two episodes we just discovered how he died at the end of the second show but we haven't found out why or how he's come back to life.

The 18 year old Jung-Won is played by Jung Chae-Won, she's also a K-Pop Idol and looks mighty cute so may have to check out more about her. That's Hae-Sung on the left above, same actor played his younger and present day self. The year is 2005 and the pair are seniors at the Chungho high school, think it's a made up town name.
Hae-Sung is a very smart boy who had thoughts about being a lawyer. However his parents are deceased, him and his four siblings are living with their grandmother. Hae-Sung has decided to attend a culinary school so he can work part time and finish his studies quicker as he needs to support his family. Jung-Won is also a very intelligent student though we haven't learned much about her private life except for the fact she never did finish college.

Hae-Sung is known as the school's toughest fighter though we didn't learn about that until near the end of the second episode. A new student had beat up his brother because Hae-Sung refused to fight him, during a minor scrap is when we see what kind of battler Hae-Sung is. The minor fight happened during his junior year, it's now his senior year and it's June 14th which is his birthday.
The pair aren't officially going out and think Jung-Won has wanted to be his girlfriend for some time. On this day they didn't have any plans to celebrate together but Hae-Sung surprised her and has taken the night off from work. Meanwhile Jung-Won is at his house helping his siblings decorate the house for a surprise birthday party. When Hae-Sung called her she made an excuse she left her wallet in the art room at school, to buy time to finish the party preparations she asked him to get it for her.

Hae-Sung returned to school but was unable to find the wallet in the art room What he did find was the badly beaten body of Jang-Chul, he's the student who had beaten his brother up. Though
Hae-Sung has a phone he pedaled away on his bike to get an ambulance. On his way for help is when tragedy struck as passing through an intersection he was hit hit by a car and sent flying. Obviously this is the scene in which he died but we haven't seen the actual outcome of it yet, for instance did Jung-Won or his friends end up seeing him in the hospital one last time?

It's now exactly twelve years later, the anniversary of Hae-Sung's death. Glad it's 2017 as we now get to see so much of Yeon-Hee as the thirty year old Jung-Won, she's 29 in real life. When the series began she was at the grave site of Hae-Sung, after all of these years she hasn't gotten over his death. His other friends hold a small ceremony later as it looks like they and Jung-Won have had a falling out and as of yet don't know why.
Jung-Won considers herself a huge disappointment, actually we haven't learned enough about her or a few of the other main characters. Jung-Won never finished college and is working part time in a restaurant. She lives in a crummy apartment and owes some loan sharks a lot of money. Because of the flashbacks we didn't see enough of the present day Jung-Won, that'll be changing greatly in the next episode as it seems most of the events in 2005 have been explained.
Sure we'll still be seeing flashbacks but just not as many. Towards the end of the episode Jung-Won has met a man named Cha, actually she knows him from the restaurant. He was supposed to go to Paris to study but changed his mind and stayed in Seoul. Jung-Won doesn't realize it yet but he's got a huge crush on her and it looks like we could be seeing a love triangle soon.

Jung-Won doesn't have her phone as she lad left it on the bus returning from Hae-Sung's grave. While the bus was stopped Jung-Won thought she saw Hae-Sung sitting on a bench. As impossible as it seemed to her she thought it was him and jumped off the bus. A train had come by right at that moment and by the time it passed Hae-Sung had disappeared, then again to her there's probably no way it was him.
However Jung-Won had left her purse on the bus but was able to get back to her apartment. As mentioned Chungho is a fictional place but the location is near the sea and many mountains. Once again near the end of the second episode Jung-Won thought she had seen Hae-Sung and once again a train passing by prevented her from finding out if it really was him, how could it be though?

Now on to the mystery of Hae-Sung and it's still is one at the end of the second episode. It's June 14th and he's just woken up on the roof of the Chungho high school. He thinks it's 2005 but when some students discover him he realizes it''s not as he's wearing an old school uniform. Some students try to capture Hae-Sung but he eludes them and manages to flee the school, that's when he found out what the actual date is.
He rushed to his old house to find out that his family has moved out and is unable to find out any info about them though his brother nay be working with the loan shark that is putting pressure on Jung-Won. He gets into a scuffle with the caretaker of the house and is eventually arrested. At the station he gives his name and correct info but to the dismay of the officer he died twelve years ago!

Almost done, while at the station Hae-Sung bumps into his old best friend Shin. He's now an officer and naturally is thrown for a loop when he discovers his friend who died twelve years ago is now alive. Once he found out it was actually Hae-Sung Shin passed out on a bathroom floor.
The pair end up having dinner together but no info came out during it, Shin is in total amazement his friend has come back to life. For some reason Hae-Sung doesn't seem fazed by what's happened, he knows it's 2017 but seems to have forgotten all about his death and that brings us to the end of the second episode.

There's going to be a total of 32 episodes so of course there are so many more questions than answers at this point. Really enjoyed these first two shows, so much may watch the next two tomorrow. Like all of my Korean drama reviews odds are slim that every show will be recapped but plan on doing as many as possible, perhaps this will be one that does get finished.
Won't bombard everyone at once with these recaps though, they do take a while which means that's less Idol posts for all to enjoy. As great as they look very few can hold a torch to the attractiveness of Yeon-Hee, she could be the first Korean actress to crack my top twenty faves list. Friday sounds like a good date for them so look for the next post with a two episode recap on that day.
