Kakegurui drama: episode ten recap

Start Date: January 14/16 as it aired on both the MBS and TBS networks
Theme song: "Strawberry Feels" by BIGMAMA    Director: Tsutomu Hanabusa

Listed the characters this way for the "Re:Mind" drama and thought it's be a good idea to do it once again. Video at the top is a short promo one for this show. This series still reminds me so much of 'Liar Game' and there aren't many dramas better than that one, lets get to the characters and think these are the only main ones that will be featured. Didn't check if the theme song to this series has a PV but it's a song worth checking out as it's an excellent rockin' tune.

Minami Habe as Yumeko Jabami.... transfer student who is addicted to gambling

Aoi Morikawa as Mary Saotome.... The evilist of students who gets severely humbled

Mahiro Takasugi as Ryota Suzui.... wimpy guy who befriends Yumeko

Ruka Matsuda as Itsuki Sumeragi.... Richest student at Hyakkaou Academy

Taishi Nakagawa as Kaeda Manyuda.... Student council member

Natsume Mito as Runa Yomozuki.... Student council member

Kiyo Matsumoto as Nanami Tsubomi.... former house pet who wins a huge gambling game to get out of debt

Natsumi Okamoto as Yuriko Nishinotoin.... student council gambler

Yuma Yamato as Jun Kiwatari.... school bully

Yurika Nakamura as Sayaka Igarashi.... student council member

Miki Yanagi as Midari Ikishima.... house pet in debt of 300 million and lost her left eye due to that

Above video is a longish one from the 'ESP Game' that ended up being the final match of the series. Really thought the show was going to end on a much different note but can understand why the conclusion was what it was. If you didn't hear the news a second season of this show will be airing next Spring which is one reason I decided to start on this drama again as I wasn't able to finish it the first time around due to my laptop dying on me. Glad I did watch this show as it was one of the better ones for the year though not quite the best, am also looking forward to season two as there's so many questions that weren't answered in this first season.

On to the second hand of this three round game, Midari won the first one but luckily for Yumeko she picked a gun with no bullets as Midari did attempt to shoot her. Yumeko has to win this game to even the match up, as the dealer Suzui says above Yumeko is hoping for the match to end in a draw. Also above is the result of the second deal with Yumeko matching all five of the dealer's cards versus the three that Midari picked so Yumeko has the honor of firing two shots at her hated opponent.
Which is what she did though no bullets were in the gun which was the one that Yumeko had loaded with zero bullets. Both guns were put in a metal container, she had to choose one of them and it was no accident she picked her gun. Yumeko explained that each bullet weighs 15 grams so when Midari loaded her gun with six bullets it was easy to tell the guns apart from the weight difference. Midari has had a lot of tricks up her sleeve though none have worked out to this point as she's not a smart cookie or at least compared to Yumeko.

On to the third and final hand that will determine the winner of the game and who will somehow walk away with one billion yen! Suzui deals out his five cards from the room he's held captive in, that's when Yumeko jumps up and berates Midari for trying such a foolish gimmick. Suzui had been dealing the cards with this left hand but in this round he dealt with his right and besides that the card with the wavy lines had been turned around.
The first two rounds Midari's cohorts had manged to have the monitor reversed, for this round they left it untouched which Yumeko quickly picked up on. Wasn't a smart strategy on Midari's part, she was presuming that Suzui would play the same cards in a row which meant the most Yumeko could get correct was one or the middle card if she laid hers out the same way as she did the prior hand.
Now that her strategy has been foiled it's time to reveal the order of cards that each of them laid out. Midari went first and in rapid fire exposed all five of her cards with all of them being the incorrect choice. It was another ploy by Midari who had kind of a sick mind, because she got all five wrong meant that Yumeko only needed to get one card correct which would probably be the middle one. But once again a plan by Midari ends up way off the mark.

Yumeko had surmised correctly what Midari was up to for that final hand and she also picked all five cards wrong as she had a strong inking on what the order Suzui would put his cards in. So against all odds the 'ESP Game' ended in a draw with neither player winning the massive jackpot nor were any of the two shot and possibly killed. Having the game end in a draw was unacceptable to Midari who pleaded for Yumeko to pull the trigger with the gun that had six bullets. Yumeko politely declined and told her she hated gamblers like she was as Yumeko simply just walked away.
The episode just didn't consist of that one game but also we saw short scenes of Mary who had gone to the chambers of the student council. The only person there was the VP Manyuda who was so impressed with Mary getting out of debt in the previous game, not just out of debt but she now had a bankroll of 250 million yen. Manyuda kept trying to talk her into joining the student council, a mean and vicious person like Mary would fit in nicely with them. However Mary had no intentions of joining the council and had only visited their chambers to tell everyone off. That's what Mary did to him though think she was disappointed the president wasn't there and to be honest coming into this final show thought Mary may have been the evil president.
So that wraps up this show which had an ending that I wasn't expecting, was hoping that Yumeko could have a showdown with the president but that never occurred. So that could be why there will be a second season that will be starting in the Spring and before that there will be a movie that will be released in January(?) that will be a lead in for the second season.

First drama I've finished in a while but expect me to complete many others soon and it's a shame we don't have more Japanese/Korean drama fans here. Didn't even give 'Liar Game' a perfect ten, can't think of one series I would give that rating to. This show here will give an 8.8/10 which is like getting a grade of a B+, no real complaints but wish there more games or hands were played. Overall really enjoyed this series, at 23 minutes an episode it was easy to zip through and would definitely recommend this drama.
As mentioned in the previous two recaps have a pair of dramas I'm about to start on, one is the current series with Erika but plan on starting a Korean drama first. Actually enjoy those shows more but this hasn't been the strongest of years for K-dramas as there's been way too many romantic shows. Thanks if you read all ten recaps and think the shortness of them makes for an easy read but even though they were shorter than usual did give all of the major details. If any were missed they'd be in the screenshots and did take an over abundance of them for each episode.
