Mai Takahashi as Akane Fujiwara.... ship's assistant navigator and a trainer

When episodes are only 22+ minutes long it didn't give us viewers much of a chance to get to know the characters outside of Marin and Tsubame. However for this show we did and that person is a Hainan student who happens to be on their team, Arata. That's him wearing the blue outfit in the above screenshots, his frustration level on the ship is so high he's ready to depart for good and why is Arata so frustrated with his training?
All you have to do is look at who is sitting next to him in the bottom screenshot and that person is Marin. She's by far the most avid student on the ship yet her love of the seven seas hasn't been a match for her incompetence. For this show the students needed to learn the art of tying ropes and Marin was failing miserably at it, even Tsubame who for now hates the ship can tie the knots along with every other student.
Marin can't pull the somewhat simple feat off and the main trainer Yokoyama has given Arata the difficult task of training Marin one on one. That's what has led to his frustration and while be came close to asking to leave the ship he never went through with it. So it's on to tutoring Marin on the fine art of tying a rope knot which left Arata even more furious.

Arata is also a bit of a hothead which didn't help with the situation, we learned too in the first episode that's he's the strongest student on the ship but that was his opinion. Arata actually did well in tutoring Marin, the problem was mainly her as she just couldn't tie a knot. Her failures kept mounting and Arata came so close to just leaving her. There was no flashback scene from Arata's past but he had a change of heart and really became determined to see Marin succeed at the task.
Took much longer than it should have but Marin was finally able to make a knot but was it strong enough? That was Arata's question after he had Marin make a small rope ladder of about four steps. Every time he took a step on a rung the ladder would collapse though the knots stayed intact. As that was going on the rest of the pair's team was on hand to watch Arata's failure at climbing the ladder though he had a brilliant idea.
That was for Tsubame to attempt climbing the short ladder as she couldn't have weighed much more than a hundred pounds. She was very reluctant but seeing as how it was for her roommate Marin Tsubame gave it s shot. Luckily the ladder was only four rungs as it barely held Tsubame's weight but she managed to climb all four rungs without it collapsing, a minor victory for Marin.

If you're used to reading my recaps for Korean dramas then it'll shock you on how short these ones are as this is the final segment. While the training was going on Tsubame had been on deck with her Kanto Maritime mate Yamato though they didn't know each other at school. Yamato has had a crush on her since day one but was way too shy to confess his feelings to her while they were on deck.
That continued on for the final two shows as they did get closer but yet Yamato never could express his love to Tsubame. Now that Marin appeared to be able to tie a knot on her own it's time for the final exam which included another group from Hainan. Twelve wanna be sailors took the knot test and eleven finished in the required time. One person didn't and of course you don't need to ask who.
It was Marin and even though Yokoyama wanted to stop the exam Marin's team pleaded with him to let her finish. To Marin and her team it wasn't about tying the knots in a certain amount of time but more on whether she could actually finish tying them. It took her about two extra minutes but Marin was able to succeed, even though she was so much slower than the other students her mates were impressed she was able to learn tying knots. Even the trainer Yokoyama was impressed that she stuck it out but by not finishing in time it meant her and her group once again had to do extra cleaning duties. On that note this short episode came to it's close.

Have been able to stretch these recaps out but couldn't do much more with one as for the most part learning to tie a rope knot was the entire show. Least most viewers probably prefer reading these that are much shorter, I enjoy short episodes too but these actually should have been a bit longer. Bit over halfway done with these five recaps in a row as there's just two more to go.
