Really no theme to this show like there has been in previous episodes save for perhaps the oden talked about above and will be getting into that. In a continuation from episode seven Kaede is still a bit jealous of the new clerk Moe and how she may attempt to steal Nii's heart! No worries on that Moe assured Kaede as Nii isn't her type plus she's not allowed to date. Kaede pressed Moe about that with no actual answer from Moe who has strict parents yet lives on her own. There really is no reason for Kaede to get jealous as Nii still refuses to talk to her and it's a one sided love affair.
That won't stop Kaede in the least trying to get Nii to date her. As you can see above she had her childhood friend Matsukoma help her play a trick on Nii by saying the copy machine was broken. When he sauntered over to fix it Matsukoma hit the copy button with an endless supply of pics coming out of Kaede saying 'I Love You Nii'. He didn't see any of them as he had a blindfold on and then ordered Moe to tear up all of the 'love pictures'.
Oden is a Japanese dish which can be made several ways, it's kind of a cross between soup and stew. At the store it's one of their best sellers but when a customer orders one it slows things way down and before the clerks knew it long lines formed. A clerk had to ask the customer what they wanted in their oden as there's not one set recipe, making it somewhat from scratch could take a while. So Manager wondered if they should attempt some different methods, such as making the store an Oden Restaurant and having it as a convenience store an extra bonus.
Every episode has one long scene which must last over five minutes, some have been quite funny and interesting, others seem to drag on way too long. That was the case for the 'oden problem' as Manager kept thinking of different solutions and none of them were feasible. Such as having an oden cart outside in the parking lot and various other things which the staff rejected. Nii even went as far to say he hated selling oden for the problems it caused with long lines, the staff hammered out what to do for a long time and in the end nothing was settled. Save for the goal Nii proposed of making an oden dish in ten seconds which is probably impossible. One option that was never brought up was why not have an oden section and let the customer prepare it by themselves?
That's Matsukoma above reminiscing about when he first started. Of course at the time he made many mistakes and it seemed every customer hated him. That is except for one middle aged man who would appear every night at 4:00 am and purchase the exact items all the time. One night it had been raining so Matsukoma had given the man some cold medicine as he rode a scooter and he didn't want the guy to get sick.
The man didn't but a few nights after Matsukoma himself did as he came down with a cold. That man noticed his condition and did something unusual which was to purchase a few extra items. They weren't for himself but Matsukoma so he could treat his cold and that moment has remained in his heart ever since. Seems most customers do treat Matsukoma a bit too rudely but knowing there's a few nice ones in the world is enough for Matsukoma as this recap comes to it's conclusion.
Two more episodes to go and will have the recaps for them within the week. Have no idea how this show ends and do prefer it that way. Just hope it's some sort of off the wall finale such as the store getting sold, Nii and Kaede dating or whatever.
