"Do You Like Brahms?" drama: Episode's seven and eight recap

Air Dates: August 31st until October 20, 2020  Monday and Tuesdays at 10:00 pm on SBS
Ratings for these two episodes, 4.3 and 5.3%

Main Cast: The college referred to is Seoryeong University, a very prestigious music school though it does have many other programs.

Park Eun-Bin as Chae Song-Ah.... 'Chae' sounds quite a bit like the Korean word for sorry and she constantly has to tell others it's her real name. Song-Ah is 29 and graduated from the university at 22 with a business degree. However she hasn't had a steady job since then as her first love was playing the violin. After four attempts she was finally accepted into the school's musical program, she's finished three years yet is still not a very accomplished player.

Kim Min-Jae as Park Joon-Young.... He's an award winning pianist and the same age as
Song-Ah. He too graduated from Seoryeong University and for many years has been touring the world performing concerts. He's a very respected pianist yet has returned to the university for their graduate program but see no reason why.

Lee You-Jin as Yoon Dong-Yun.... Friend of Song-Ah's and went out briefly with Min-Seong. We didn't see him in this first episode as he was in Italy but has just returned in this show. He owns a violin shop though doesn't play much these days.

Bae Da-Bin as Kang Min-Seong.... Song-Ah's best friend who is going to the same college, she's getting her Masters in Chemistry.

Park Ji-Hyun as Lee Jung-Kyung.... She's just returned from America where she tried so hard to become a professor of music at some colleges but failed. She's a violinist whose mother died when she was fourteen, she's been semi-dating Hyun-Ho though she secretly wishes to be with Joog-Young

Kim Seong Cheol as Han Hyun-Ho.... He too has just returned from America and is a talented cello player. He's best friends with Joon-Young and has been dating Jung-Kyung but he's more serious about their relationship than she is.

Lee Ji-Won as Kim Ha-Nae....Also a violinist who is seven years younger than Song-Ah but both have just started at a Summer internship for the Kyunghoo Foundation.

Seo Jung-Yeon as Cha Young-In.... Manager of Song-Ah and Ha-Nae at the foundation.

Choi Dae-Hoon as Park Sung-Jae.... Employee at the foundation.

Ahn Sang-Ein as Jung Da-Woon..... Another foundation employee

Ye Soo-Young as Na Moon-Sook.... Director of the Kyunghoo Foundation and whose daughter died in 2006 who was the mother of Jung-Kyung.

Yoon Chan-Young as Seung Ji-Min.... Very talented younger popular pianist

Didn't have to make any adjustments to the above, no new characters were introduced and kind of hoping none will be as the above list is large enough. Last two episodes had an audience of 1.075 million viewers, this pair dropped to 976,000 or a loss of 100,000. Drama ratings these days are dropping rapidly in Korea or at least on weekdays as there's so many more channels now and cable shows have been quite good. Think the overall total of viewers is the same but instead of ten series a night they may have twice as many to choose from.

As mentioned there's no intense cliffhangers in this show like you see in action shows. The previous episode ended with Song-Ah being a bit disappointed in Joon-Young as he had hid the secret of her two best friends spending a night together. Personally thought he was a good person for trying to spare Song-Ah's feelings and perhaps she realized it too by the time they left the Kyunghoon foundation office. It's still July 15th which is the date of Song-Ah's 29th birthday, after hearing the news of her two friends rolling around in the hay she just wanted to head home. But who should arrive but Dong-Yun who had no idea that Min-Seong had confessed to Song-Ah about their tryst. He twisted her arm to come to her own birthday party, Song-Ah agreed reluctantly but luckily in tow was Joon-Young who may now be her best friend though Song-Ah may not be aware yet. His presence made a potential uncomfortable party for Song-Ah bearable.

In that second to bottom screenshot is Hyun-Ho and things don't seem to be working out so well for the talented cellist. Earlier in the night he noticed his girlfriend Jung-Kyung leaving the apartment of Joon-Young who wasn't home, to me it was no possible romantic occasion as on that date fourteen years prior her mother had died. Joon-Young had immensely respected the mother who was a pianist, bet she just wanted to talk about the anniversary of her death. Before he could approach his girlfriend outside of the apartment building Hyun-Ho received a call from his mother, learned at this moment she owned a convenience store and the overnight clerk called in sick so could he watch the store? So with no alternative Hyun-Ho agreed but we'll be seeing much more of him later on.

Actually why not continue on with him for a while as we did see Hyun-Ho quite bit in the first episode but very little in the second. If you read the first two recaps you'd have learned he had recently returned from America where he performed in many concerts, while there he became so much closer to Jung-Kyung. It's not quite a one sided affair but his love for her is so greater than Jung-Kyung's and especially more since they've both returned to Korea. However Hyun-Ho believes her love for him will increase if they somehow were... married! So during a small break before a rehearsal Hyun-Ho shocked Jung-Kyung to no end when he slipped a engagement ring onto her finger. She was quite expressionless and you seldom see her smile, know Jung-Kyung wasn't pleased at all with what took place but for now she'll play along with Hyun-Ho's fantasy marriage which seems like a no go.

Jung-Kyung hated wearing the ring much more than we thought, when she made a trip to the ladies room she left it on a sink counter and not by accident. Noticing the ring was Song-Ah who entered right after Jung-Kyung, she dashed to return the ring which didn't please it's new owner in the least. That rehearsal was for the trio of Jung-Kyung, Hyun-Ho and Joon-Young, he's arranged for them to perform a show but no details of what it's supposed to be about have been revealed. Joon-Young just began his sabbatical and was going to take a year off from playing so am in the clouds what event this trio will be doing. At the rehearsal playing was a disaster as Jung-Kyung was such a bitchy woman and especially to Joon-Young who she truly loves deep down. She made some biting comments about his character, they were so harsh he left the rehearsal to the shock of her and Hyun-Ho. She did catch up with Joon-Young but once again a conversation was overheard which you can see above.

Hyun-Ho did get drunk with Joon-Young that night as he's slowly realizing that Jung-Kyung's feelings towards him aren't what they once were. Hyun-Ho even mentioned that things may be better if his friend left Korea, being a bit tipsy made Joon-Young wonder if that statement was true. Each episode lasts around thirty minutes, all that took place above was in the seventh episode and almost all of the events in the second show revolved around the question and answer session Joon-Young will be doing at the Hankook Arts Middle School where he attended. Song-Ah is his liaison for the event and she traveled there with her Kyunghoo Foundation supervisor Cha to check things out. Haven't mentioned Cha's name too often but she seems like a decent lady, she's probably around forty in age but is still very attractive and is a huge supporter of Joon-Young.

Didn't catch this man's name but it's probably not important as we may not be seeing him again. He was the representative on hand for the Kyunghoon credit card division which sets up many of the events for the foundation and much of their profits go to the foundation's budget. This man was extremely rude towards Song-Ah as he began treating her as a peon once he learned she was an intern and not a manager. That didn't please Cha one bit who directed a few barbs to this man which flew right over is head. As has been the case so often to date and will probably remain so is that who should arrive to save the day but Joon-Young. He's not much of a talkative chap but did set this man in his place and let him know how displeased he was with that snotty attitude. Oooops, taking screenshots does help as I noticed in this top one thee man's name was Joo.

There's a screenshot above with Joon-Young asking someone about money. He was meeting with his mother who we've only seen for two minutes in eight episodes, he's had to support his family the last few years as his father is very irresponsible and sure more details about that unhappy family situation will come out as time goes on. The last ten or so minutes were set at the Hankook school where the featured star was Joon-Young. At the event a young woman is supposed to sing a song but she had been very displeased with the pianist so she asked the foundation if Joon-Young could possibly play, to our surprise he agreed as his sabbatical hasn't turned out to be much of one.

He was accompanied by Song-Ah and these two have become so much closer in such a short period of time. Joon-Young can be so honest with Song-Ah, more so than any other individual as he's shared many of his secrets and how being a famous pianist these days isn't all it's cracked up to be. But his problem which everyone has noticed is that Joon-Young is rarely truthful doing interviews or at shows, he'll say what others think he should say. That's what happened at the Hankook event as he reverted to his old self to the dismay of Song-Ah who watched in the wings. Besides playing the piano with the young female singer Joon-Young has also agreed to perform one solo song, he does feel so indebted to the foundation's director Na who gave him a scholarship to attend college.

He has asked Song-Ah what song she would like him to perform though can't recall what it was but it may not matter as that wasn't the song Joon-Young played. He had a change of mind at the last moment for entering the auditorium was none other than Jung-Kyung who Joon-Young somehow noticed. Though the had that spat earlier seems they've forgiven each other, when he saw her at the back of the hall Joon-Young began playing a selection from Truamerei which happened to be 'their song'. Song-Ah was taken back upon hearing the song he began playing until she saw Jung-Kyung at the back of the hall and realized no matter what Joon-Young said he still had intense feelings for her. That scene ended off this pair of shows and sure the next episode will begin off with Joon-Young finishing up the song or least hope it does.

Left a few minor details out in order to keep this the same length as the other recaps. If something should become a bit important as time goes on will describe what happened earlier. With my laptop crashing lost most of my videos which isn't a major loss but that meant some films and dramas I had been planning on viewing won't happen. So since then this is the only series I've been watching but will try to find something else though doubt if any will top this drama which I'm really enjoying, Should be back about this same time next week with the recaps for the next four episodes.
