"Kimi to Sekai ga Owaru Hi ni" drama: Season two, episode one recap

Air Dates: March 21st until April 25, 2021 on Hulu-TV, Sundays at midnight
First season had ten episodes, this one has six and subs were once again dome by Manxcat

Ratings: Unknown as this season airs on Hulu-TV which is a cable network.

Main Cast: Will have two sections, this first one are the returning characters from season one. The first season's action began at the end of September 2019 and ended right around December 7th though the weather is still mild. Season two started off three weeks after the conclusion of season one so it's about to become 2020. The setting is still the island of Saruno in Miura Bay though it appears that may soon change to a house in Chiba which is kind of far away, will discuss that in the recaps.

Ryoma Takeuchi as Hibikia Mamiya.... Main star of the drama who is 25 in age and was an auto mechanic until the Golem Virus plagued the city of Miura. He's the unofficial leader of the group which at one time totaled ten but was whittled down to five but they've added a few more survivors. Hibiki is the boyfriend of Kurumi and had all intentions of proposing until the virus hit. He was a mellow man but has changed his ways and has become a ruthless killer but only to defend his group.

Ayami Nakajo as Kurumi Ogasawara.... Also 25 like her boyfriend and had been a second year intern at the Miura hospital. She had been saved by the special Defense Forces and ended up working with the crazed doctor Shuto to develop a vaccine for the virus. However Kurumi was used badly and it appears she may slowly be turning into a Golem, that's a Zombie like creature.

Marie Iitoyo as Kanae Hiiragi.... Third year college student who is 22 in age and was trapped in an elevator with four other survivors when the virus struck which saved them. Kanae was such a quiet introvert when the series began but has also changed her ways and with Hibiki defends the group as she's now an expert at archery. She has such a crush on Hibiki and acts quite cold towards Kurumi who she may want to see dead!

Sho Kasamatsu as Hiro Todoroki.... He's also 25 in age and had gone to school with Hibiki and Kurumi who he openly loves. Todoroki was a detective and his partner was killed in season one's second episode. He's kind of a hothead and though a member of the group isn't all that trustworthy and really despises Hibiki.

Sports Makita as Yohei Komoto.... Owned a moving company and had been stuck in the elevator with his worker Min-Jun and three others still living. He's an older man who doesn't do all that much for the group but has at times pitched in to help.

Tamae Ando as Shoko Mihara.... Middle aged woman who is the mother of the below girl, she's presently not on the island with the group but at the 'House of Hope' in Chiba.

Naho Yokomizu as Yuzuki Mihara.... Shoko's twelve year old daughter who has asthma.

Hyunri as Yoon Jian.... She's a Korean doctor who came to Japan to help Shuto create a vaccine for the virus but unknown to her it wasn't a vaccine. Her brother was also in Japan but had been killed at the end of episode seven by a Golem bite, Jian is now part of Hibiki's group.

Toshihito Kokubo as Tsuboi.... Leader of the Swords group who are a rival of Hibiki's. The two have never seen eye to eye but on occasion have worked together when both groups are in danger. The Swords are also on Saruno island but tensions are running high between the groups.

Kodai Asaka as Rikuto Kuwato.... Former Defense Forces corporal who defected to Hibiki's group in episode nine when Shuto became too crazed, he's a man you want on your side in a battle.

Shohei Uno as Doctor Omaezaki.... Once worked on Shuto's team but when he realized the doctor wasn't working on a vaccine he fled the Camp Yokosuka base. First he went to the Swords group but eventually switched over to help Hibiki and his mates.

Kenishi Takito as Koki Shuto... Though he died in the final episode of season one added him in as he played such an important part to the story. Shuto had been trying to find a potion to cure his dead wife(!) but that got out of control, those experiments eventually became the Golem virus.

Whew, that above took a while to write up! These are the new characters introduced in the second season who are living at the 'House of Hope' safe shelter in Chiba. Will be updating the bios as we just met them at the end of this first episode.

Mari Hamada as Misako Akiyoshi.... Leader/owner of the shelter which at one time was a resort. She's the mother of Ren and really cares about the survivors at the house.

Kanata Hongo as Ren Akiyoshi.... Misako's son and had been the managing director of the resort. Bit of a quiet young man who brought Kurumi and Hibiki to the safe house.

Hisashi Yoshizawa as Shohei Noro.... First person to meet Hibiki's group as he had traveled to Saruno island but was sent away almost immediately.

Mantaro Koichi as Takuro Mamiya.... Hibiki's father who had deserted his son when he was fifteen, we didn't meet him in this first show.

Glad I only have to write the above once as it can be copied over the future posts as that character list takes longer to write up than the actual recap. This season is just six episodes and as mentioned began three weeks after the first ended so it's late December 2019. The action is mainly taking place on the island of Saruno and the almost deserted city of Miura but the location could soon be switching to Chiba which is only accessible by boat that's about an hour away via Tokyo Bay. Enough of an intro, will list a few key points to this season which may help out as I won't be referring to the first season all that much and will leave this for the next recap as a reference point.

-- The date is three weeks after the first season ended so it's right around New Year's 2020.
-- At the end of the first season it appeared many of the survivors went to the House of Hope safe shelter but it was only Shoko and her daughter Yuzuki.
-- Hibiki's group of eight are still on Saruno island but perhaps not much longer. Also there are the Swords group led by Tsuboi, they probably have about the same number of survivors.
-- While it appeared the Golem virus was only in the city of Miura it seems to have spread countrywide or why else would the safe house be northeast of Tokyo in Chiba?

As you can see in the top screenshot the drama's star Hibiki has become a ruthless warrior but his killing is only to defend his group. But the question he and the others are having is where are the Golems coming from? Saruno island should be a safe location and while it's not being overrun by the Zombie like creatures how are they appearing on the island? The city of Miura is where they have to be coming from but there's no way a Golem could pilot a boat out there, even if they could they'd be noticed. Each day Hibiki and Kanae are venturing into the city for food and supplies but their efforts are now in vain. The Defense Forces had cleared out many stores prior to their demise plus no food is being delivered to Miura so it's becoming a question on how will the group survive?

While in the city Kanae, above on the right, has noticed a different kind of Golem that's dead. Now these creatures appear to have an X mark on their faces or chests, is it a different kind of virus, are they now more dangerous or mainly, how could the Golems be different? So now the group are in an important stretch of what to do next as there may not be much time to survive on the island. They've been making contact with the House of Hope located in Chiba where it's still a safe place, that shelter broadcasts via FM 73.4 but they both have walkie talkies to communicate. Shoko and her daughter both appear to be doing fine, should the group join their ex-mates? They may not have a choice as their food supply is almost gone and there's very little left in Miura, plus with Golems on Saruno island it's not the safest place to be.

Joining the group in this episode was Hibiki's girlfriend Kurumi who was a key figure in the first season. She has a special DNA gene which the crazed doctor Shuto thought would be the cure to revive his dead wife(!) but that wasn't to be. As you can see in the second screenshot after over three months the pair did have a romantic night as Hibiki couldn't hold back his urges any longer. But the most important thing about Kurumi is that it appears she may have a form of the Golem virus. The veins in her arms and hands are enlarged plus it's starting to spread to the rest of her body though slowly. Hibiki knows about her condition but for now, though not for much longer, none of the other survivors do, Hibiki kept assuring to Kurumi that things will be okay but it's mainly empty talk.

Kanae has an inkling about Kurumi's condition and revealed that to Todoroki. He's still so in love with Kurumi so he ordered Kanae to keep her mouth zipped for now but that could be endangering both groups. That other group is led by Tsuboi in the top screenshot and they're called Swords. He's never gotten along well with Hibiki and as Tsuboi says he doesn't like to take risks which is why he voted NO to taking a trip to Chiba. Tsuboi's motto seems to be trust nobody save for his own group but sooner or later he needs to realize working together may be the best option. Once again the House of Hope have contacted Hibiki via walkie talkie, he's agreed to meet a representative from the group on Saruno island which took place the following day.

In those bottom two screenshots above is the person from the shelter whose name is Noro. Things did not go well at all for him as Hibiki too has become quite suspicious of everyone and Noro couldn't give many straight answers to his questions. Pointing a gun at the man is Kuwata who was once a corporal for the Defense Forces and he backs Hibiki's decisions 100%. Both were more than a bit perturbed at the scheme Noro was pulling on them but it actually may not be any kind of ruse, we may not find that out until the next show. So that first pow-wow was an utter failure as Noro was sent back to the House of Hope but we'll be learning more about them by the end of the recap.

Meanwhile the most severe situation to date has arisen between Hibiki's and Tsuboi's group. Haru was the name of Tsuboi's most trusted assistant and wonder if they had any romance too as she was an attractive woman. Say was for she was bitten buy a Golem doing guard duty at night and how could such a fighter such as Haru be bitten? Tsuboi told the Hibiki's mates about what took place and he's utterly furious, more so when Kanae revealed that Kurumi may be a Golem! She's had blackouts and even to Kurumi she may have bitten Haru, luckily for her she wasn't in the room or else Tsuboi would have shot her. Shuto's assistant doctor Jian is now with Hibiki's group and assured Tsuboi there's no way Kurumi could change back and forth from human to Golem which fell on deaf ears.

There was no definite proof Kurumi's bite led to Haru's death so Tsuboi agreed to just have her tied up for now until he could figure out what to do. Not much Hibiki could say to that as deep down he's not entirely positive his girlfriend didn't kill Haru as Kurumi did suffer a blackout around the time the attack may have happened. So while both groups were bickering on what to do with Kurumi she slipped away as one of Tsuboi's for some reason felt sorry for her. Hibiki learned about that somewhat soon and was able to track Kurumi rather quickly but it isn't a large island. While that was going on evidence was discovered that Kurumi wasn't the killer. That evidence was determined by the above doctor who is named Omaezaki, he was once a researcher for Shuto but has been a member of Hibiki's group for a while after escaping from the mad doctor's headquarters.

As Kanae surmised earlier the Golems have changed and the Omeazaki found the same X carving on he creature's chest, what could it mean? (Am back after taking a few days break, hope I don't forget too much) That's unknown through the second show but it appears that the X is a human cut, possibly from the survivors at the House of Hope? Back to Kurumi who now seems to be innocent but is nowhere to be found. As mentioned the Swords guard watching over her felt sorry for Kurumi and released her as long as she promised to flee the area which she did. However it's not a huge island and in no time she was found by Hibiki, the situation there has become so tense the best thing for the pair to do would to leave Saruno island which happened almost immediately.

The destination was Chiba and the House of Hope, is that the last safe location in Japan? Didn't appear so as shortly after arriving on the peninsula the pair were attacked by Golems and supposedly there weren't going to be any there. So quickly Hibiki hid Kurumi away and though she's infected with the virus/vaccine Kurumi's condition hasn't been getting worse but it could at any second. Hibiki has become such an efficient killer though always just to protect himself and his group. There must have been twenty Golems he had to defeat which took a bit of time though of course he ended up on top. But his absence for so long got Kurumi worried and she finally left their hiding place to scour the forest for her boyfriend.... but then again it may have been to escape from Hibiki!

Mentioned Kurumi's condition has been somewhat stable though she does have some bad moments. While roaming through the woods Kurumi passed out and was discovered by a man who we had never seen before. Shortly after that who should appear on the scene but Hibiki who was drenched in Golem blood. Of course this new man Ren thought Hibiki was out to kill her and didn't believe for a second that Hibiki was her boyfriend. Right about at that point Hibiki was hit over the head by two more unknown men and along with Kurumi was brought for the first time to the House of Hope. There was another three minutes to go but will stop this recap at this point. Think it would be better to start talking about the House of Hope in the next recap as we didn't learn too much about it.

Definitely lost my train of thought after that long break, did bring up all the major details but think I repeated them a few times more than I should have. For today have the recaps for the first three shows of this six episode series and to me each episode has gotten a bit better but going to be tough to top that first season.
