Hinatazaka46: "Koeharu!" drama, episode one recap

Air Dates: April 28th until June 30, 2021  Wednesday nights at 1:00 am on NTV
Subs are a joint project of Broken Subs and Team Hinata.... 22 minutes an episode

Main Cast: Top seven are all Hina members, first six save for Chizue are all first year students at the Kirameki Voice Actor's School. Bottom person is another member but we don't see her as she does some narration and often for Meiko's thoughts. All save for Amasaki live at the school's Doremi dorm. After two shows don't know the details of all of the characters so will be updating this as time goes on.

Mirei Saski as Meiko Hinowa.... Quite a shy nineteen year old who is such a fanatic about the "Namidairo Senki" weekly manga series. She's such a fan of the series that she enrolled in the school when Meiko heard there would be an anime of it. It'll be a long shot for her to voice the role of Tya as Meiko is a bit inept at most things.

Akari Nibu as Mana Tendou.... Such an energetic student who is so talented at seemingly everything. She's become Meiko's best friend and it was revealed in the second show that Mana was a champion at Kendo until a tragic car accident.

Miho Watanabe as Amasaki Amane.... Went to high school with Meiko but Amasaki can't stand her and has bullied her for so long. Her father is quite wealthy, in high school she was the Queen of Snobs which has continued on to this school.

Miku Kanemura as Yukina Tsukikawa....

Hina Kawata as Tae Honda....

Hinano Kamimura as Airi Kusuma....

Konoka Matsuda as Mari Koshino.... Haven't seen her in the first two episodes.

Ayaka Takamoto as Chizue Harukaze.... Doremi Dorm mother and still in VA training.

Aya Hirano as Iwao.... The student's main teacher and what a peppy woman! In real life Aya is known for being a singer and also a very busy voice actress.

Koichi Yamadera as Odawara Genmai.... Headmaster of Kirameki Voice Actor's School and also the creator of the Genmai training program.

Naoto Takenaka as Kinkakuji Enjo.... Older popular manga artist, writer of the 'Namidairo Senki' series published in the Weekly Hop magazine.

Sarina Ushio as the narrator.

A Korean drama was going to be the next series to be recapped but after four episodes just couldn't quite get into it. Had been planning to do this drama too so it's just being done a bit earlier. Have viewed the first two episodes, there's ten in all, and still am unsure how I'll be posting them. Should I have three today, three more in a few weeks and then the final four shows. Or should there be two batches of five, am up in the air but will figure it out after the third recap is done. Leaning to having three recaps for today as five are too many to read in one sitting.
EDIT: And three recaps is how many there are for today, next trio will be in two weeks.

Definitely a fluffy drama but am enjoying it, now and again need a less serious drama though this one is a bit serious and think it'll become more so as the episodes go on. Mirei and Ayaka are the only first generation members and they both did a solid job in the "Re:Mind" drama. Back in 2019 recapped another voice actress drama called "Koe Girl" which I enjoyed immensely. But keep thinking there was another drama in this vein that I've viewed but just can't think of it. You'd think with how popular animes are there would be more voice actress dramas but that's not the case. Enough of an intro and let's get to the first recap.

Meiko above will be the 'heroine' of this drama, a likable young woman but doesn't have much else that's overly positive about her. Meiko is an extremely shy female who talks so softly, she gives off the impression that she'd be ace of her classes but that's far from the case. Meiko didn't too all that well in high school as she spent way too much time doing her #1 passion, that's reading mangas. Not much of a future then for her but one day Meiko was reading that her fave manga "Namidairo Senki", which is an ongoing story in the Weekly Hop magazine, will be getting an anime adaption. Meiko's fave character is Tya who n the story is a female knight, how she would love to voice that woman in the anime.

Meiko had been living with her grandmother, why isn't known yet. She encouraged Meiko to enroll at the Kirameki Voice Acting School to get the proper training, without any other plans for her future that's what Meiko did. The drama started on her first day at the school, it was a rough day and think she'll have many of them. Meiko witnessed some young punk knock over about twenty bikes, she couldn't leave them as they were so she picked each one back up and put them back in their slots. Nice deed but what it did was make Meiko late for her first class, she attempted to slip in quietly but was noticed by her teacher Iwao who is in the third screenshot. Luckily Meiko had a savior, that bottom gal above who is Mana who saw Meiko's nice deed and saved the day for her.

Mana's energetic personality is just so infectious and right after class she became Meiko's first friend, her best one too. Mana's bubbly ways soon attracted the attention of two other classmates who you can see above, you'll learn about everyone a bit more as these recaps go on. Meiko's first day couldn't be going any better but her bubble was about to burst thanks to the girl in the second to last screenshot. That student's name is Amasaki and she had gone to high school with Meiko. However the two were never close as Amasaki has always despised her and even has bullied Meiko to an extent. As you can see above Meiko's new friends quickly picked up on what a mean person Amasaki is, she comes from a wealthy family and expects to be treated like a Queen.

So those four above have all been assigned to live in the Doremi dormitory along with another who you'll see in the pics. A sixth person is the dorm mother Chizuke who is a third year student and also has signed with an agency but no voice acting gigs yet. She runs the dorm, cooks for the girls and gives them much guidance. Meiko never knew how hard it was to be a voice actress, it's not just about speaking the lines. You also have to be in top physical shape and have a lot of stamina so the girls have been doing a lot of exercising and such. All did well enough at what was thrown at them except of course for Meiko who is also a klutz at any kinds of sports, sooner or later we'll hopefully find one thing she does well. Once again Meiko had a run in with her enemy Amasaki who would love to see her ex-high school mate leave the school, she even said they should talk to he headmaster about it.

The man with the purple coat in the bottom two screenshots is the school's headmaster Genmai. He's an extremely odd guy but someone who has the student's best interests at heart and knows almost everything about voice acting. Genmai did agree with Amasaki that a strong voice is very important and Meiko's voice is jus way too soft but then again she hasn't even started the voice training. Genmai has taken the freshman class to the gym where he had a mini competition set up for Meiko and Amasaki. The object was to break an egg and separate the yolk from the egg white. Amasaki's father owns an exclusive Inn so she could do it with her eyes closed, took her five seconds to complete the task. Not so for Meiko who had trouble even breaking the egg correctly.

Eventually she did break the egg but it came out a bit messy. However Meiko hung tough and it appeared she would be able to do the task but at the last second her hand trembled thus dropping the yolk. So the victory went to Amasaki who really couldn't gloat in front of the headmaster but didn't she prove her point to him about Meiko? Yes she did replied Genmai but to him it was a minor victory for Meiko who never gave up which impressed him. He told all of the students that perhaps the key to their training would be perseverance and Meiko proved to him that she has it. Amasaki wasn't pleased in the least with the headmaster's opinion as she stormed silently from the gym, the other girls dashed up to Meiko and for such a quiet young woman she's gained so many friends right off the bat. That concludes this recap, a show is 22 minutes long and the post for episode two is the next one.
