"Kimi to Sekai ga Owaru Hi ni" drama: Season two, episode six(final) recap

Air Dates: March 21st until April 25, 2021 on Hulu-TV, Sundays at midnight
First season had ten episodes, this one has six and subs were once again dome by Manxcat

Ratings: Unknown as this season airs on Hulu-TV which is a cable network.
First season had an average of 7.7%, final show was the highest at 8.4%.

Main Cast: Will have two sections, this first one are the returning characters from season one. The first season's action began at the end of September 2019 and ended right around December 7th though the weather is still mild. Season two started off three weeks after the conclusion of season one so it's about to become 2020. The setting was the island of Saruno in Miura Bay but now all of the action is taking place at the House of Hope in Chiba. Not sure of the time after a while as it's never discussed, seems to be getting warmer out so perhaps it's March by now.

Ryoma Takeuchi as Hibikia Mamiya.... Main star of the drama who is 25 in age and was an auto mechanic until the Golem Virus plagued the city of Miura. He's the unofficial leader of the group which at one time totaled ten but was whittled down to five but they've added a few more survivors. Hibiki is the boyfriend of Kurumi and had all intentions of proposing until the virus hit. He was a mellow man but has changed his ways and has become a ruthless killer but only to defend his group.

Ayami Nakajo as Kurumi Ogasawara.... Also 25 like her boyfriend and had been a second year intern at the Miura hospital. She had been saved by the special Defense Forces and ended up working with the crazed doctor Shuto to develop a vaccine for the virus. However Kurumi was used badly and it appears she may slowly be turning into a Golem, that's a Zombie like creature.

Marie Iitoyo as Kanae Hiiragi.... Third year college student who is 22 in age and was trapped in an elevator with four other survivors when the virus struck which saved them. Kanae was such a quiet introvert when the series began but has also changed her ways and with Hibiki defends the group as she's now an expert at archery. She has such a crush on Hibiki and acts quite cold towards Kurumi who she may want to see dead!

Sho Kasamatsu as Hiro Todoroki.... He's also 25 in age and had gone to school with Hibiki and Kurumi who he openly loves. Todoroki was a detective and his partner was killed in season one's second episode. He's kind of a hothead and though a member of the group isn't all that trustworthy and really despises Hibiki.

Sports Makita as Yohei Komoto.... Owned a moving company and had been stuck in the elevator with his worker Min-Jun and three others still living. He's an older man who doesn't do all that much for the group but has at times pitched in to help. Died in this episode.

Tamae Ando as Shoko Mihara.... Middle aged woman who is the mother to the below girl, she's presently not on the island with the group but at the 'House of Hope' in Chiba. Died in this episode.

Naho Yokomizu as Yuzuki Mihara.... Shoko's twelve year old daughter who has asthma.

Hyunri as Yoon Jian.... She's a Korean doctor who came to Japan to help Shuto create a vaccine for the virus but unknown to her it wasn't a vaccine. Her brother was also in Japan but had been killed at the end of episode seven by a Golem bite, Jian is now part of Hibiki's group.

Toshihito Kokubo as Tsuboi.... Leader of the Swords group who are a rival of Hibiki's. The two have never seen eye to eye but on occasion have worked together when both groups are in danger. The Swords are also on Saruno island but tensions are running high between the groups.

Kodai Asaka as Rikuto Kuwato.... Former Defense Forces corporal who defected to Hibiki's group in episode nine when Shuto became too crazed, he's a man you want on your side in a battle. Killed by Golems in the third show.

Kenishi Takito as Koki Shuto... Though he died in the final episode of season one added him in as he played such an important part to the story. Shuto had been trying to find a potion to cure his dead wife(!) but that got out of control, those experiments eventually became the Golem virus.

Whew, that above took a while to write up! These are the new characters introduced in the second season who are living at the 'House of Hope' safe shelter in Chiba. Will be updating the bios as we just met them at the end of this first episode.

Kanata Hongo as Ren Akiyoshi.... Misako's son and had been the managing director of the resort. Bit of a quiet young man who brought Kurumi and Hibiki to the safe house. Upon the death of his mother Ren is now the leader of the shelter.

Hisashi Yoshizawa as Shohei Noro.... First person to meet Hibiki's group as he had traveled to Saruno island but was sent away almost immediately. They met up again in episode two and are getting along much better, Noro has become the 'middle man' between the groups. Died in this episode.

Mantaro Koichi as Takuro Mamiya.... Hibiki's father who had deserted his son when he was fifteen, we didn't meet him in the first show. We did in the second episode as Mamiya is also a survivor at the 'House of Hope' but he's suffering from severe chest pains. Died in episode five.

The main characters who are now deceased.

Mari Hamada as Misako Akiyoshi... Was the owner of the House of Hope and also the leader of the survivors at this once safe Chiba location. Her son is Ren who took over her duties once she died and was surprised she was written out of the story so quickly. Near the end of the second episode Misako was bitten by a Golem, she was turning into one and had to be slain by Hibiki.

Shohei Uno as Doctor Omaezaki.... Once worked on Shuto's team but when he realized the doctor wasn't working on a vaccine he fled the Camp Yokosuka base. First he went to the Swords group but eventually switched over to help Hibiki and his mates. In the second episode Omaezaki was shot by Tsuboi when he questioned his motives for raiding the House of Hope.

Glad I only have to write the above once, whew again! Been a while since those first three recaps so may be a wise idea to skim through them to see where we stand, things are so much different than the first season. Hadn't been updating the 'deceased list' but did add into their bios if they had perished. Almost always save my grade and final thoughts of a series for the very end. Will have some but not as many as I'll also discuss the upcoming third season. So will give my final grade here in the beginning with some random positives and negatives. First three shows were much better and would give them a rating of 8.0/10. However things dipped in the final three episodes, scenes were much too long and not enough details were revealed, that'll have a grade of 7.1 and the entire second season a 7.5/10.

What really bothered me was how many things were never revealed to us, it happens often in dramas but these were very key points. As I said in the previous recap what happened on Hibiki's long journey to Fukushima? And of what his father confessed just before he died that Shuto wasn't the actual head of the Golem virus project. Plus why was there no Tsuboi in this final show, is he still prowling the woods and is he even alive? One final tidbit is why did Hibiki never bring up the names of Todoroki and Kanae? At one time he was friends with the former and with the latter showed her how to be a superb archer, few other mysteries were never explained. This final episode was decent and will be starting off with the scene that ended the previous show, what a gory tragedy that was.

That top screenshot ended off the last episode, that's the head of the fifteen year old boy Shori who was brutally murdered and beheaded. Have to presume it was that mysterious man who is controlling the huge army of Golems and though we did see his face this show still learned zero about his background. The situation is just too tense and dangerous at the House of Hope, hopeless may now be a better name for the shelter! Shoko wanted to leave with her daughter Yuzuki, few residents wanted to join her but were talked out of it by Hibiki. Least we learned here from him that outside of the shelter grounds it's more dangerous than ever. That beheading of Shori took place because Ren, the shelter's director, had ceased providing that mysterious man with food and water. Ren had been giving that man quite a bit of supplies so is there at least one more normal human with him?

Hibiki has come up with the plan to tell that man he'll get his supplies again, Ren will meet with him and perhaps they can set some sort of trap. Over these last two shows Hibiki's leadership skills have really impressed the other residents who would rather see Hibiki lead them. Deep down that's sent Ren into a rage and more on that soon. In that bottom screenshot was what we discovered at the end of the last recap, that Kurumi is pregnant! With her is the doctor Jian so least she's in safe hands but what of her condition? Kurumi has the Golem virus but also has a special gene which is supposed to keep her from turning into a creature, it's worked so far for about six months. But will that gene prevent the virus from spreading forever plus will her baby be born with the virus?

Overhearing that conversation was Ren who now thinks he can use that to get back at Hibiki. Happened a bit later but Ren told him about the pregnancy and how that he's the father! Of course that's not true and Hibiki is the true father but somehow believed Ren's story, couldn't Hibiki figure out the time span of things? Meanwhile in the woods are Kanae and Todoroki, you may remember in the last recap Todoroki cut off his right hand and what a gruesome scene that was! But he's really showing no side effects and is that possible after losing a hand? The pair escaped from the shed being overrun by Golems and have had to fight many of them in the woods, Todoroki can still fight them quite well. But the route back to the shelter is packed with Golems, too many to fight so what will become of them.

Above holding a knife is the resident Noro, he wasn't an original person at the shelter but came there after the virus spread. Noro has been a decent person who has been willing to help everyone out, he was the main go-between person for the House of Hope residents and any new survivor appearing. While Ren was out of his office Noro told him that mysterious man had called to set up a meeting, one to start the supply of food again. To Noro it seemed kind of dangerous to meet this evil man alone and told Ren he should accompany him which he agreed to. But at the location something quite unexpected took place and one we never saw coming. The meeting was all a sham as Noro just wanted Ren alone in order to.... kill him! That's why Noro was holding that knife but before his impending death Ren heard from Noro the reasons why.

Seems Ren's mother wasn't as kind hearted as all had thought. When Noro first came to the shelter he had his two children with him though both were sickly or injured. Ren's mother wouldn't allow them to enter the House of Hope so Noro had to leave them behind and obviously both were soon killed by Golems. Noro never brought up what a crappy father he was as didn't he leave his two children behind knowing they would be killed? Before Noro could attack Ren in this small warehouse Ren pulled out a pistol which he had secretly been keeping, no contest in this fight as Noro went down after one shot. So another survivor bites the dust and many more will by the end of the show. A pistol makes a loud explosion and nearby had been Hibiki who dashed to the building. He had been out with the devilish resident Shigeru who since day one wanted the new survivors expelled. But he changed his ways slightly in this episode and was helping Hibiki find out where the Golems have been coming from.

They did find a short tunnel which was supposed to be locked, it wasn't and it appears the Golems were going through the tunnel which led from the woods to the House of Hope grounds. But after hearing the gunshot Hibiki tore away and was at the building at no time where he confronted Ren. This was the perfect chance for Ren to dispose of Hibiki who was unarmed. Ren is still fuming about how the residents respect Hibiki more plus with his death Ren wouldn't have to worry about him stealing away Kurumi. Ren wasn't as accurate with this shot as it just grazed Hibiki who was still hurt badly. The pair ended up grappling for quite a long spell and though Ren had been such a wimp up until now he gave Hibiki all he could handle. Once Ren thought he had the upper hand so gloated to Hibiki that the baby was in fact his and not Ren's, for some reason everyone believed that lie. That confession sent Hibiki bonkers, he quickly defeated Ren and was bashing him with a pipe. Hibiki could have killed him but instead brought him back to the House of Hope, perhaps they should have stayed away.

Before their return one important note that I almost forgot about. Seems Noro had a hand in letting the Golems onto the shelter grounds so it was obviously he who left that tunnel gate unlocked. So was he secretly working with that mysterious man(?), it appears likely but once again some major details were never explained. There was another death which was of the older man Kotomo, he had been a major character since the very first show and though he hung on for a while couldn't recover from the Golem attack in the last show. In those bottom two screenshots is what Hibiki and Ren saw when they returned to the House of Hope. Because Ren didn't attend that meeting with the mysterious man he sent a large army of Golems to the shelter, killing everyone that was in the dining room. There were some survivors such as Kurumi above and the other doctor Jian, also some residents who had been in their rooms.

Another character from the beginning died who was Shoko, that's Kurumi above trying to save her but to no avail. Least her twelve year old daughter Yuzuki was safe as she had been hiding under a table. But now what for the remaining survivors(?), the House of Hope is no longer a save haven and leaving would be a worse fate. But leaving to Hibiki is his only option and he's preparing to depart once again on his own. Before that he met with Kurumi for what he thinks will be the final time, if she still wasn't suffering from amnesia Hibiki just might have stayed. After their useless chat Kurumi found the engagement ring Hibiki had thrown away in the last show. She brought it back to her room and it was identical to the ring she had. For a brief moment some of Kurumi's memories from being with Hibiki popped into her mind but quickly disappeared. For one minor scene we also saw the pair of Kanae and Todoroki still in the woods. They're still hanging on but have gone so long without food and water, it was the last we saw of them and how could two major characters be ignored?

In the final few minutes of this final episode Ren was able to contact that mysterious man again, he'll give him anything he wants if he stops these Golem attacks. There is one thing which is that he wants a doctor, not Jian but the pregnant Kurumi and is it because of her immunity to the virus? So towards the end Kurumi agreed in order to save the other residents and didn't seem too frightened of being with that man. The show ended with four groups of people or at least ones we know about. Kanae and Todoroki battling Golems in the woods, Kurumi going to that mysterious man and Ren at the shelter with the remaining residents. The other pairing was of Hibiki and the young girl Yuzuki. As he was about to leave the grounds she came running up and pleaded with him to take her with him. Yuzuki has no more reasons to stay at the House of Hope as her entire family has been killed. To my surprise Hibiki agreed to take Yuzuki with him but wouldn't it be much more dangerous for her outside the shelter grounds? This second season ended with them about to depart the shelter.

So guess when the third season begins we'll be seeing those four groups, then again who knows?! So of the original twenty or so major characters we're down to seven, perhaps eight as we never heard once of what's happened with Tsuboi. These final three shows were all over fifty minutes long which didn't help, would have been better if they stayed in the 42-45 minute range. If you've seen the first season you're going to want to view this, definitely not as compelling but it was a decent series. Listed in the beginning some of the reasons for it not being as good. But there was a lot of action and many interesting twists in the story which would have worked better had they been explained in more detail. Perhaps they weren't as to keep the suspense level high for the third season which has no start date yet but know I'll end up viewing it.
