Hinako Sakurai: "Gohoubi Gohan" drama, episode two recap

Air Dates: October 2nd to December 19th Sunday nights at midnight on BS TV-Tokyo
Total of twelve episodes, 23 minutes a show and subs were done by Macthitza at DA

Main Cast: Small cast and all the characters are quite likable, through three episodes Hinako has been in 100% of the scenes.

Hinako Sakura as Sakiko Ikeda.... 22 year old woman who has just moved to Tokyo from Nagano and has begun work as an OL at the Suzume Stationary Company in the distribution department. Sakiko is an efficient worker but doesn't have enough confidence in herself, to make herself feel better Food has become her biggest passion. Doesn't matter if it's eating out or at home as Sakiko has such pleasure in the meals she consumes and it's quite hilarious watching her eat.

Sae Okazaki as Kaede Kominato.... Works at the same office and has been there a little while longer than Sakiko who at first was quite intimidated by Kaede. But at the end of the first show the pair bumped into each other at a ritzy burger shop, they found out they have so much in common and are becoming best friends.

Miku as Aoyagi.... Office manager at Suzume Stationary and Sakiko was petrified of her at first but after sharing a meal with her found out Aoyagi is a down to earth, funny woman.

Oolong Yoshida as Morigasaki.... One of the directors of the stationary company.

Kizuki as Honda.... Goofy office worker who became Sakiko's first 'friend' at the company.

Yuuki Furukawa as Makoto Isogai.... We just met him at the end of the second episode so will edit this bio, he's in the planning department and think his role will be important.

At first Sakiko was quite intimidated by her co-worker at the Suzume Stationary company, Kaede. But when that first show ended the pair became quick friends after dining together at an upscale hamburger restaurant. That friendship grew even more at the beginning of this show, Kaede too loves food but isn't quite as passionate about eating as Sakiko is and not many people are! But their office manager Aoyagi is a tough woman to work for, that's her in the glasses above. She's told the pair to concentrate more on their work and instead of visiting a new local eatery the pair were given a huge project to finish. That left them only twenty minutes for lunch so sadly for the duo it ended up being vending machine food.

That project took so long to do which forced Sakiko to work overtime, for the second night in a row she won't be able to prepare a feast at home but tomorrow she will. This current day wasn't mentioned but have the strong feeling it was a Saturday, never catch me at the office on a weekend! So with no time to make a meal at home Sakiko passed by a shop specializing in Yakitori, the aroma of the meat drew her in. But just as Sakiko was about to enter the shop who should she see sitting there but her mean office manager Aoyagi! For a few seconds Sakiko was frozen, should she enter the eatery or slip away without being noticed? Unfortunately for Sakiko there was no option as she was spotted by Aoyagi who waved her in, could this be a nightmare meal for Sakiko?

Sakiko does like her alcohol, a Highball is what she ordered. She can hold her liquor well but not Aoyagi who after their meal needed to be escorted to a cab! And what a meal it was as the pair had much more than Yakitori such as that chicken plate above and doesn't it seem Japanese restaurants are so much better/interesting than American ones? When Sakiko enjoys a meal, she seemingly always does, she goes into her own world which can be quite hilarious. Her antics were hysterical to Aoyagi and you can see her comment above as Aoyagi began to laugh. That surprised Sakiko who thought her boss was kind of a Robot, Aoyagi could read her mind and said that's far from the case. As a matter of fact Aoyagi said it wasn't her who was uptight at the office but Sakiko(!), she really needs to gain more confidence in herself plus stop conversing with Kaede so much.

So it really appears Sakiko can't read what others are like all that well, both dinners with Kaede and Aoyagi were so enjoyable and the women were the complete opposite of what Sakiko thought. Little above said I think this took place on a Saturday night as the following morning it was Sunday. Sakiko rolled over in bed and was so overjoyed that she had a day off, the next thing she knew it was almost noontime. So after that huge and enjoyable dinner with her boss you'd think Sakiko would have no room in her stomach but that wasn't the case. Her first thought after waking up was what to have for lunch(!), Gyoza was her choice and once again have to wonder how long does it really take to prepare a meal? Ask that for it only takes a minute or two during the show but Sakiko starts from scratch so to me seems as though it could take hours, cooking is not a forte of mine.

What better way to spend a day off than by eating and of course Sakiko was in ecstasy! She even did something which she considered 'sinister' which was to have a beer at noontime, she can certainly hold her alcohol. So we didn't see Sakiko do anything else on her day off, know Food is the theme to this drama but doesn't Sakiko have any other interests? It's quickly Monday morning and back to the grind at the Suzume Stationary company. But at least things are looking up for Sakiko who now has a friend in Kaede plus she's gotten to understand her boss Aoyagi so much better.

As this show ends her boss introduced Sakiko to her underling who is right above. His name is Isogai who works in the planning department, Sakiko is in distribution. Though we just met Isogai think his role is supposed to be an important one and the pair will start working on a project in the next show. That ends this recap and while viewers think this show is just so-so I'm enjoying it. Was going to have a trio of recaps today but seeing as how only four shows have been subbed didn't want to catch up so quickly, will have the next pair of posts in about a week.
