Air Dates: January 21st until February 11, 2022 on TVK Friday nights at 11:00 pm
Subs were done by Irozuku Subs, 24 minutes an episode
Main Cast: Being a mini drama it's a very small cast but there are two others who will be added in when they're introduced, most all of action takes place at the Patisserie Cheval pastry shop.
Tsubasa Sakiyama as Jouji Okuno.... Works at the pastry shop and his age is somewhere between 25-29. Appears to be currently living with the owner who has an apartment above the shop and Jouji has fallen head over heels for Fumiko but has no clue how to tell her his feelings. By the end of the second show neither still knows the other's name.
Natsumi Okamoto as Fumiko Haru.... About 24 in age and works as an OL. She only visits the pastry shop on Fridays at around 6:00 pm after her work week is done. Fumiko is a very quiet yet cute woman who loves pastries and keeps hoping Jouji will strike up a conversation.
Ryota Murai as Ryo Tatewaki.... Owner of the pastry shop who is around thirty in age. Ryo lives in an apartment upstairs from the shop and is trying to coach Jouji how to ask Fumiko out which has been a failure.
Yurano Ochi as Aki Misaka.... Fumiko's friend at the office and what an airhead she can be but also is the most enjoyable and fun character.
Sorry I'm late with these final two recaps. Wrote this up on March 4th but the last episode wasn't subbed until yesterday but least it was done and do give thanks to the team that subbed it.
One more episode to go after this and haven't viewed it yet as it hasn't been subbed. Short series are nice time killers, some dramas you wish were longer but bet four shows will be enough for this series. Not going to give it a strong recommendation but through three episodes it's been decent enough and a nice positive was seeing Natsumi again who I had forgotten about. Will still try to have a post or two for her which is proving not to be all that easy. No cliffhanger coming into this show but the above two recaps are on the mini side so may be nice to skim through them to see what's taken place.
So that's Fumiko's mission to find that out and after a five week break(?) paid a visit to the pastry shop. She only goes there around 6:00 pm on Fridays and buys some yummy fresh treats to reward herself after working so hard all week at her office. The very key bit to date is that the pair still don't know each other's names by the end of the show and both are too timid to ask the other what it is. But Christmas at the shop is very busy so if you wanted special treats for the holiday you had to order early, that was by filling out a form with your name! To Jouji that'll be the icebreaker as there's no way Fumiko wouldn't order some Christmas treats and he'll finally learn her name. The best laid plans often go astray as that day Fumiko did ask about X-Mas and also bought some cakes that Friday evening however the subject of ordering Christmas cakes was never brought up!
Jouji later admitted to Ryo he had no clue what he was trying to say but I had the impression he was trying to say Watashi(I) and continue on from there. As mentioned time just flies so quickly in this series and it's already Christmas day. Fumiko spent the holiday with her mother and younger brother but we only saw them for a minute and no clue about her father. Back at the pastry shop business was booming on Christmas day as there was a line around the block for their special holiday cakes, that shop seems to be a goldmine. Because it was so busy Jouji didn't have any time to think about Fumiko but before he knew it the time was nearing 9:00 pm when the shop closes, he felt sure she would have made an appearance for a holiday treat.
The final scene was very similar to how the first episode ended. Fumiko did make it to the pastry shop but at 9:01 pm, even if it was open they had sold out of everything. A dejected Fumiko was looking through the shop window when she was noticed by Jouji who ran out before she disappeared. Once again he had a special cake he made just for Fumiko which was a Lebkuchen and that's a German pastry. Do have to add one note in, though it's Winter the scenes look like it's September and there's no snow or frost in the air?
It was too late for a woman to walk the streets according to Jouji who offered to escort Fumiko back to her place. But there's no way she would allow that though walking her to the bus stop would be good enough as I don't think she's ever been on a date before. While waiting for the bus Jouji finally spoke up and told Fumiko she's the only special woman he's made cakes for and the air seemed to become a bit thick then. Both didn't know what next step to take and when Jouji reached for her arm Fumiko once again panicked and jumped on the arriving bus which ended this 24 minute episode. So as I said in the intro this is no must watch drama but it's got it's own kind of charm to it and at 96 minutes you're not giving up too much time to view it, next post has the recap for the final episode.
