Air Dates: October 2nd to December 19th Sunday nights at midnight on BS TV-Tokyo
Total of twelve episodes, 23 minutes a show and subs were done by Macthitza at DA
Main Cast: Small cast and all the characters are quite likable, through five episodes Hinako has been in 100% of the scenes.
Hinako Sakura as Sakiko Ikeda.... 22 year old woman who has just moved to Tokyo from Nagano and has begun work as an OL at the Suzume Stationary Company in the distribution department. Sakiko is an efficient worker but doesn't have enough confidence in herself, to make herself feel better Food has become her biggest passion. Doesn't matter if it's eating out or at home as Sakiko has such pleasure in the meals she consumes and it's quite hilarious watching her eat.
Sae Okazaki as Kaede Kominato.... Works at the same office and has been there a little while longer than Sakiko who at first was quite intimidated by Kaede. But at the end of the first show the pair bumped into each other at a ritzy burger shop, they found out they have so much in common and are becoming best friends.
Miku as Aoyagi.... Office manager at Suzume Stationary and Sakiko was petrified of her at first but after sharing a meal with her found out Aoyagi is a down to earth, funny woman.
Oolong Yoshida as Morigasaki.... One of the directors of the stationary company.
Kizuki as Honda.... Goofy office worker who became Sakiko's first 'friend' at the company.
Yuuki Furukawa as Makoto Isogai.... We just met him at the end of the second episode so will edit this bio, he's in the planning department and think his role will be important.
Previous recaps:
This is a Food drama so of course eating will be the subject of every show. But there's also a sub story to each show which is how food is helping the main character Sakiko become a much better person and is getting her out of that shell she's been in. Sakiko thinks she can tell what a person is like but has been wrong 100% of the time. She thought her coworker Kaede was such a stuck up woman who did nothing wrong at the office but after a meal with her in the first episode Sakiko was way off base as Kaede is such a down to earth woman and the pair have become good friends. Sakiko was also so wrong about her immediate supervisor Aoyagi who is a strict boss but also a very nice woman. Sakiko thought her boss was a Robot who couldn't feel and didn't know how to smile, once again eating a meal with a person proved how wrong Sakiko was and her outlook on life is becoming much rosier.
That is until this show, a person we haven't seen much of is Morigasaki who is the man above and Sakiko was thinking it could be an unlucky day for her. The pair work at the Suzume Stationary company, Sakiko is an OL in the distribution department while Morigasaki is one of the company directors. In the morning Sakiko had taken a call from a client who wanted to move up a meeting with Morigasaki by an hour. Sakiko did take a note and was prepared to bring it to the director but at that time Aoyagi had thrown a huge project on her desk, needless to say the note was forgotten about. So Morigasaki was fuming at Sakiko for her carelessness and luckily the client wasn't too upset at having to wait an hour for the meeting. In front of everyone Morigasaki tore into Sakiko, especially about her desk which had so many pictures of food. Shortly after Morigasaki did feel so bad about his explosion and the outcome of that ends off the show.
Monjayaki starts with a pan fried flour batter and you can add almost anything you want, Kaede threw in some dashi, miso soup, cheese and a few other tidbits. Besides food the pair love to drink, according to Kaede beer goes best with the dish which was music to Sakiko's ears! She can really hold her alcohol but the same can't be said for Kaede who got a bit tipsy after two huge beers but that may have been a good thing. It loosened Kaede's tongue and she tried to cheer up Sakiko after that bad encounter with Morigasaki. Kaede's words did have an affect but think by now Sakiko had gotten over it, everyone make's mistakes as Kaede said above but still Sakiko needs to be a bit more attentive. Least it was another pleasant meal for the new friends, did like what they had in the first episode much more.
So now it's the following day at Suzume Stationary and Sakiko is on the ball as not to draw the wrath of her director Morigasaki again. There's an afternoon meeting scheduled and Sakiko was in charge of preparing the room with handouts, videos and such. When she arrived in the room it was dark but sitting there to her amazement was Morigasaki, what could he be doing sitting alone in the dark? Being a food drama the answer was of course eating but he wanted to keep it hidden from the staff and really don't know why. Even though Sakiko caught him red handed Morigasaki still tried to avoid her as she was preparing the room, soon Sakiko's curiosity was about to burst. So she went over to her boss and discovered he was chowing down on fruit sandwiches, why would that be embarrassing?
Morigasaki thought it would be but Sakiko said that was a bunch of nonsense! He had four sandwiches and before long the pair were sitting at a table munching them down which of course led to a conversation. Morigasaki did apologize for his tantrum the other day but doesn't know how to say sorry too well to people. To Sakiko's surprise her boss was such a decent man who was funny and interesting. She was petrified of Kaede, Aoyagi and Morigasaki when she first started at the company but after sharing a meal with each of them Sakiko has realized her first assumptions of what others are like has been way off base. So that could be the 'theme' to the series which is how food could be the gateway to meeting new people and understanding them but in a very light hearted way. That wraps this up and have the recap for the fifth episode in the next post, the fourth show was never subbed.
