Korean drama "Delivery Man": Episode two of twelve recap

Air Dates: March 1st until April 6, 2023 on ENA and Genie-TV... Wednesday and Thursdays at 9:00 pm.... Subs done by The Marvellous Team, average rating was 1.04% and that's because it aired on two cable networks.

Main Cast: There will be much updating as we go along, still so much that hasn't been revealed and especially about the 'main ghost' Ji-Hyeon. After two episodes the date of when this took place hasn't been revealed either but did some deduction and when the series began it was July 2022 as three month before, April 12th, Young-Min's mother had been killed in an accident. Seems as though there's going to be five stories that revolve around some guest stars, 2-3 episodes for each story. Then there are two other major ones taking place, one is with Ji-Hyeon who has no recollection of who she was, did she get murdered? Also was Young-Min's mother killed in an accident or was she killed too, it appears the mother may have been killed a few moments after Ji-Hyeon and by the same man!!!! The top two characters have at least 95% of the screen time though the guest stars do play an important role.

Yoon Chang-Young as Seo Young-Min.... Young man about 22 in age who dropped out of college when his mother was killed in a hit and run accident three months before. She was a taxi driver and he's using the same taxi his mother drove, Young-Min had to drop out of college for he now needs to support his grandmother and her health isn't all that good. Business was good for Young-Min until the day he met the female ghost Ji-Hyeon and the question that no one knows yet is why can he see her and all of the other ghosts? Ghosts seem to give off a odor that's a bit nauseous so it's been hard for Young-Min to get fares, he's had to resort to being a taxi for Ghosts!!!! And getting fares is something Young-Min needs desperately as the mortgage company may be repossessing his house as owes over $20,000!

Bang Min-Ah as Kang Ji-Hyeon.... The 'Main Ghost' in this drama and she's about 28 in age. Three months ago Ji-Hyeon appears to have been murdered by her boyfriend Kim who we haven't seen yet so will wait to add his name on to the cast list. The murder took place on April 12th, Kim is also the suspect in the death of Young-Min's mother. Ji-Hyeon has zero recollection of her life, she can't even remember her own name! But often she will recite some rules or regulations from the law system, was she a detective, attorney or a law student? That will probably be revealed much later and for now Ji-Hyeon is Young-Min's 'assistant', that's because she's semi-tied to his taxi and can only leave it within a radius of about fifty yards.

Kim Min-Suk as Do Kyu-Jin.... Youngish doctor at the Dongpa General Hospital and is really such a nice man. Do is also a very efficient doctor who sadly wasn't able to save Young-Min's mother's life from the hit and run accident. But Do gave it all he had which really impressed Young-Min and the pair have become friends.

Park Hye-Jin as Park Boon-Ja..... Young-Min's grandmother, they live together for she's ill but not at the point where she may die soon and is furious the police haven't caught her daughter in-law's killer.

Kim Seung-Su as Ji Chang-Suk.... Detective for the Dongpa police, he's on the cases of Ji-Hyeon's murder and Young-Min's mothers death but so far has had zero success.

Woo Tae-Ha as Baek Tae-Woo..... Ji's partner, both are on the Violent Crimes Unit.

Lee Hye-Jung as Yoon So-Ri.... New nurse at the Dongpa General Hospital who messes up very often but is supported by Do who she has a crush on.

Choi Tae-Hwan as Na Seok-Jin.... Young-Min's older brother who we may not see too often, he's also a taxi driver.

Main guest stars for the first two episodes

Kim Seon-Hyuk as Kim Byeong-Cheol.... Recently died at his job working at a hospital. He was picked up by Young-Min who along with Ji-Hyeon is helping Byeong-Cheol do the final things a ghost has to do before he can move on to it's afterlife.

Oh Su-Jeong as Park So-Yeon.... Byeong-Cheol's wife but actually not as they had never formally registered their marriage and that was a key point in this story. Both had grown up in an orphanage and had been dating for almost ten years, before Byeong-Cheol can go to Heaven(?) there's a few things he must do first for So-Yeon.

Park Kyung-Hwa as Moon Hee-Kyung.... Older woman who was only in the second episode, she posed as Byeong-Cheol's mother in order to get his insurance settlement.

Video that features highlights from the second episode, the shows are sixty minutes in length.

Thought this was a much better episode and think this will end the first story. Still confused about a few things but they should be cleared up the longer we go on with this series. Hope to have this series done by the end of the month but I'm not good with doing posts for Korean dramas at a rapid pace as they're so much longer than Japanese series and take a while to write up. That first episode wasn't goofy or humorous but there were many lighthearted moments. Not so in this show as it was much more intense and almost everything revolved around the new ghost we met at the end of the first episode.

That new and soon to depart ghost is in the top screenshot and his name is Byeong-Cheol. You do see a bit of the other ghost Ji-Hyeon above and she'll be in the drama until the end. Byeong-Cheol had worked at the Dongpa General Hospital, not as a doctor but some sort of supply clerk. A few months back he fell off a ladder and somehow hit his head wrong on the floor which resulted in his death. In the bottom screenshot above is his wife Se-Yeon and as Byeong-Cheol said in the top screenshot they had been married for only a month. However the marriage wasn't official and that will play a key part in the story along with where Byeong-Cheol and Se-Yeon grew up. Which was an orphanage and the pair being the same age got along so well. But when they hit the age of eighteen they had to leave the orphanage and for many years didn't know what the other was doing. In a middle screenshot above is the doctor Do, he will be an important figure though he hasn't had much screen time up until now.

Back to our 'married couple' and about five years later Byeong-Cheol was working at a restaurant. It was a new employee's first day and of all people it was So-Yeon, they got along better than ever and began to date.... for nine years! The pair did register their marriage but never finalized it, they had been living in a small apartment. And that place is the key detail for Byeong-Cheol as there's one major thing he has to do before moving on to a ghost's afterlife. So-Yeon has never had a regular bathtub in her life and Byeong-Cheol had been saving his cash up to finally get her one but of course he's now dead. This is the first time I've mentioned the major character Young-Min, Byeong-Cheol pleaded with him to buy and install a bathtub! But there is a silver lining to this as Byeong-Cheol has a secret gold bar that's worth $2,000, if Young-Min would install the bathtub the gold bar is his! And money is something that Young-Min needs desperately as he needs to pay $20,000 to the mortgage company to keep the house where he and his ailing grandmother live. You have to begin somewhere and seeing as Young-Min doesn't get passengers these days he's agreed to install the bathtub.

The question is how to get into Byeong-Cheol's old apartment and more importantly how to convince his wife So-Yeon that Young-Min isn't some sort of scam artist. Ji-Hyeon usually has some bright ideas and as she's mused about could she at one time been an attorney or detective? She proposed him acting as an old chum of Byeong-Cheol who had just heard about his untimely death and vowed to finish what her husband's dream was, to install a bathtub for So-Yeon. Along with other info from Byeong-Cheol's past Young-Min was able to enter the apartment, true one reason was about the bathtub but more importantly it was to get the gold bar worth $2,000. Some of that scene is right above and at first the gold bar had been hidden in a cellphone but was no longer there, was Young-Min being duped by tis ghost again? No for Byeong-Cheol did recall moving it to the AC unit and as Young-Min shouted above he's found it!!!! So So-Yeon's first ever bathtub will be installed though not for a while in this show, will get back to it near the end.

The other screenshots above feature the pair of detectives from the Dongpa Violent Crime Unit, Ji and Baek. They're investigating the murder of Ji-Hyeon and as mentioned many times she has no recollection of her past. She was killed at 11:00 pm on April 12th, supposedly by her boyfriend Kim who hasn't been seen since, the current period of time is July. Right after Kim killed Ji-Hyeon at her apartment he fled away on his motorcycle, it appears he has two deaths on his hands as the detectives believe Kim ran over Young-Min's mother. So now the two cases are being merged into one but to date Ji and Baek have zero evidence. Young-Min's mother had parked her taxi outside of  Ji-Hyeon's building, perhaps to wait for a fare? So she was standing out of her taxi when hit by the motorcycle but there's no video of her being run over. That's because it appears Kim jumped off his bike after hitting the mother and grabbed the dashcam from the taxi, it doesn't seem there's any other video footage of the accident besides that and for now these two merged cases are going nowhere. We only saw the detectives in two scenes but think these two deaths will soon be the key storylines to this drama.

Back to the 'guest ghost' Byeong-Cheol, his story and what took place with his wife So-Yeon took up almost the entire final thirty minutes of this episode. Byeong-Cheol's death at the Dongpa General Hospital was an accident so So-Yeon is entitled to an insurance settlement, a rather large one at close to $250,000! Young-Min went with her to the hospital as he's slowly grown attached to this new ghost and his wife, he wants to make sure everything ends up working out well for them. So-Yeon signed the settlement papers at the hospital with Young-Min as the witness but an unexpected incident took place. Arriving on the scene just at that moment was a woman named Moon Hye-Kyung and of all things claimed to be the mother of Byeong-Cheol!!!! That threw everyone for a loop including the dead ghost for as he says above he was abandoned by his mother and grew up in an orphanage. Hye-Kyung said she was in jail which is why she had to give her son away, after her release she was unable to locate Byeong-Cheol until reading about his death in the newspaper.

Hye-Kyung was a very convincing woman who did know many facts about Byeong-Cheol's past. It did seem Hye-Kyung had loved her son and asked that there be another wake held for him which is above but Hye-Kyung did make a major slip at the wake. She prepared some Kiwis for Byeong-Cheol saying it was his favorite fruit which was not so as he was allergic to them which is what he told Young-Min. For now the pair kept it a secret to see how things played out and that secret will be used at the end as So-Yeon's life is about to take such a turn for the worse. She admitted to Hye-Kyung that her and Byeong-Cheol weren't officially married, they did fill out the marriage forms but never registered it. That's because of the apartment where So-Yeon lived and still does, for some odd reason it was cheaper to live there as a single person and the rent would increase if she got married. So until the pair started to earn more money they bided their time just living together and Hye-Kyung used that info to her advantage. As Ji-Hyeon says in the above bottom screenshot if the mother claims the settlement money it would go to her as Byeong-Cheol wasn't officially married, once again Ji-Hyeon seemed to quote from a law book but it'll probably be a while until she does learn more about her past, why does she remember those kinds of details?

Final segment, am half asleep so this probably hasn't been the most exciting of reads up until now. This woman Hye-Kyung took full advantage of Byeong-Cheol and So-Yeon not being married as she soon applied for the $250,000 death settlement and it was approved by the hospital! Of course everyone involved knew Hye-Kyung was a scammer but how can they prove it? Hye-Kyung had a partner or perhaps boyfriend named Kim who wasn't a major part of her potential scam. But we did hear Hye-Kyung tell him the real story and she was correct in saying she was in jail. That's where she met the mother of Byeong-Cheol and learned all about him from his mother but would that info ever be useful? Yes is the answer to that and the real mother did die a few years back so her going to jail is why she had to leave Byeong-Cheol at an orphanage. He claimed his real mother had a scar on her right hand and told Young-Min to check for one, Hye-Kyung was prepared and actually had a scar on both hands! When you sign a settlement form you need to leave a thumb imprint which is what Hye-Kyung did but she had scarred herself so badly it was useless, what can be done to stop this scam? The most obvious way was with a DNA test but the body of Byeong-Cheol has already been cremated plus So-Yeon had thrown all of his personal belongings away so it appears there's no DNA left of him in the world.

For the second time So-Yeon had passed out at the hospital, could the strain of losing the settlement money be the reason? No for as Young-Min's good doctor friend Do says above So-Yeon is pregnant and could the DNA in the fetus be used to prove Hye-Kyung isn't Byeong-Cheol's mother? According to Ji-Hyeon the answer is no to that and once again she quoted some details from a law book. But now that So-Yeon is carrying her deceased husband's baby she's more furious than ever and wants to bring down Hye-Kyung at all costs. There was one last attempt at getting Byeong-Cheol's DNA and Young-Min is not a quitter. He discovered that Byeong-Cheol had a organ donor card and with that was able to prove Hye-Kyung was not his real mother and that evidence is right above. So the good guys won in this case as the hospital wouldn't pay the fake mother Hye-Kyung any money and instead the settlement will all to So-Yeon! It was a triple victory for her, first that money and then finding out she was pregnant, thirdly Young-Min and his friends installed So-Yeon's first ever bathtub! So a happy ending to this first 'ghost story' and it wasn't fluffy in the least, this was a rather interesting and at times intense show which this recap didn't do justice for. **** Oooh, almost forgot one major thing that took place in the final ten seconds. Young-Min noticed that Ji-Hyeon was wearing a hair-tie, it was one his dead mother had worn and how did she get that????  So after two shows this has been a better drama than I was expecting, will be back in about a week with the next pair of recaps. Then I hope the pace will pick up a bit and below are many more screenshots from this episode.
