This is turning out to be a successful franchise, first the 2006 drama followed by two cinema movies and now there's been 2 TV movies starring Kii, first one was aired in 2011. The drama and the first TV movie were quite good, didn't care for the first film that came out in the cinemas, finally after having it for so many months just watched it today, how will it fare compared to the first TV movie.

Kii is back as detective Akira, she's quite a hot headed person who though she gets results doesn't always do things by the books, also she's got a bit of a loose tongue and on occasion rips into her superiors. But like I said she does gets results which is why she's probably still on the force and at 25 years old is by fat the youngest in her department. This movie started off fairly simply as Akira easily nabbed a criminal though by using too much force, once again her superiors let her have it but they never learn as she can give it back twice as bad. Started off simply but that didn't last for long as there is one sick criminal out there using the internet for his sick game which was to let the viewers have a vote: Yes or No.... will the person he's holding hostage live or die?

To date the kidnapper dressed as an Idol has killed 2 out of the 3 people, actually the voters voted were the one who sentenced them to be killed. They are asked a question which asks given a situation did the person do right or wrong, they vote on that and if the majority of voters have the same answer as the kidnapper that person is shot right on the spot. The above screenshot you can see a little girl there, she was actually almost sentenced to die twice but the voters ended up saving her. But who is this person, the force has no clue what his motives are but he is becoming rapidly 'popular' on the internet, the police better do something quick before even more are killed. They finally do get a clue and think the kidnapper is staging it on a small cruise ship in Tokyo Harbor but that didn't pan out, the kidnapper had planned ahead and had sent the police force on a wild goose chase to the harbor.

I'll probably leave a bit too much out of this recap or if I don't it'll be a couple of thousand words long. Eventually thanks to Yamaji who has been demoted from supervisor to detective that the force finally have a clue though he only tells Akira of it. Seems many years ago he was the main investigator in a suicide where an Idol took her life, he hadn't found out the reason why as it was hushed up. Why it was hushed up remained a mystery up until now but through certain ingenious methods he was able to figure out the suicide from many years ago and the current situation with the kidnapper are related. It comes out that the older suicide was not one but a murder as she was raped by a man currently running for a political seat, at the time his father was a politician and the rape and suicide which was actually a murder were covered up by the politician and the police. The main police supervisor on in the precinct is still involved with the case in a devious way, he wants the true facts to come out as he wants the the opponent of the politicians son to win if that makes sense in the wording. Finally Yamaji and Akira track down the kidnapper's site and through a prolonged ending all the facts about how the idol died come out, the kidnapper had been an old fan and friend who wanted justice done, all his hostages in some way were involved in what had happened. The kidnapper is arrested along with his partners, don't know what their actual sentence was as they didn't kill anyone, all the murders were fake, he just wanted all the facts about the idol's death to come out.

And that really is a brief summary of what the movie was about, don't know about others but I get a bit bored when a review is too long, hopefully this is short enough with all the details that are needed. Movie was 95 minutes long but think they could have chopped off 5+ minutes at the end, the kidnapper just went on and on about the apparent suicide and just dragged the movie down a tad. Though if you're a fan of the Unfair series you should enjoy this, even though the ending was a tad too long it's still worth a view, I would give this a grade of a 8/10, recommended even if you haven't seen any of the movies or the drama first. The whole cast as usual did a solid job, most have appeared in the drama and all the movies, of course Kii was the main reason I watched this. Kii was really solid as such a hot headed, spunky young detective, would like to see her in more roles like this. Rating for this movie was 11.3%, okay but lower than the first movie so don't know if any more are planned, sure hope there are more. Check out the next few posts for a huge amount of screenshots from the movie, if I missed a few things hopefully they'll be in the screenshots.
