"Yuru Camp" drama: Episode seven recap

Air Dates: January 9th to March 26, 2020 on TV-Tokyo, Thursday nights at 12:25 am
Subs were mostly done by EcoTV but another team did at least the first show, you'll notice the font difference and the title roughly translates over to laid back camp.

Main Cast: We'll seldom see anyone besides these five, had only watched the first two episodes before writing the character info so may edit things as time goes on. The setting is Nanbu in Yamanashi prefecture which is a little over thirty miles away from Mt. Fuji. Like so many dramas it's based upon a manga and anime.

Haruka Fukuhara as Rin Shima.... Main star of the show and she's an avid camper. However she has only done it alone as she'd rather not have others spoil her fun. So instead of joining the Outdoor Club at high school Rin is in the library club but that may not last for much longer.

Yuno Ohara as Nadeshiko Kagamihara.... New girl at high school but had met Rin a few days before her first day. Nadeshiko had no clue about camping until meeting her but quickly became such a fanatic and joined the Outdoor Club on her first day at school.

Momoko Tanabe as Chiaki Ogaki ... President of the Outdoor Club who had just two members until Nadeshiko joined. They weren't much of a camping club until then and it's located in a very tiny room until they can get to five members.

Yumena Yanai as Aoi Inuyama.... The other member of the Outdoor Club. To date they've never taken a camping trip but do have various equipment, they spend most of their days burning leaves and keeping the school grounds tidy.

Sara Shida as Ena Saito.... Rin's best friend who in these shows doesn't show much interest in camping though does love nature and animals. She is one kawaii young woman!!!!

Think this will be the last of the recaps though am planning on watching the final four episodes tomorrow. Couple reasons, one is that not every episode needs to be recapped in a series and often forget that, half of them or so should be plenty but not for every drama. One other reason is that there's two new series that have just begun and want to start viewing them. Both are regular length shows at 46 minutes so it'll take longer to watch and write up so don't want to have them on ice for too long. The final one is that the team doing the subs changed beginning with this episode. EcoTV had done them up until now and they were fine, can't say the same for the subs done by the new team. They're passable watching a show as you know what was said just before or after but it's still a tad annoying. So will be taking almost a week off with drama posts as to view 3-4 episodes and then will begin writing them up. All eight shows up until now have been enjoyable and do recommend this series.

Want to add in all of this 'action' is real as the cast did travel to Yamanashi to shoot the drama as you can tell by the screenshots and they did actually camp overnight many times.

This is part two of the story that began in the sixth episode, not essential that you should read that recap but it would help. For the first time in her life or at least since she began high school Rin is on a camping trip with someone. Of all people it was her new 'weirdo friend' Nadeshiko and though Rin above may think she's stupid Rin is kind of warming to her and at least Nadeshiko has become so avid about camping. Where we left off was with the pair arriving at Shibere Lake and the camping grounds next to the lake, it's south of the girl's hometown of Nanbu.

Both are in Yamanashi prefecture and Nadeshiko got the idea from her two Outing Club mates. The girls had to hike up a mountain leading up to the lake but that's part of the fun of camping. However the lingering question is if the area is haunted, according to Nadeshiko it is by a ghost named Ushi and that girl will believe any urban legend. But for Rin the biggest part of the trip will be to try out her new Yakiniku cooker which you can see above. It's a miniature one but perfect for two people, after the tents were erected the first order was to eat! That's Nadeshiko's favorite activity and she left the cooking to Rin while she scouted out the area for the Ushi ghost! Getting a fire going proved to be impossible for Rin and you can see her dismayed above. She tried a new kind of charcoal and was at a loss why it wouldn't light.

But there was help on the way as arriving back after Rin's failed attempts at lighting a fire was Nadeshiko and she wasn't alone. In tow was a young woman around 25, Nadeshiko had stumbled across the woman and her sister at their own camp site. Neither of their names were ever mentioned, the older sister went with Nadeshiko to check out her site as the younger sister was getting a bit too inebriated to leave her seat! This woman was a semi expert at camping and could help out. Seems this new charcoal Rin was using doesn't work so well in the cold weather, it is the end of November. When the temps are low the best charcoal to use is Binchotan and she gave the pair enough to get their fire going.

As you can see above that fire certainly did get going and perhaps too well! Rin  had always used run of the mill charcoal and couldn't believe how fast Binchotan ignited, luckily a tragedy was averted with the food. Having food burn would have been a nightmare to Nadeshiko who as mentioned can be a glutton but never seems to gain an ounce. So the pair had quite the feast and it must have taken them an hour or so to eat every scrap. Well not every bit as the girls knew they had to pay back the sister for her help and took a hike to her site with a few plates of delicious campsite cooking.

Shame we didn't see more of the sisters, especially the 'wino' in the second screenshot and she was definitely off the wall. Then again an episode is only 23 minutes in length and have to concentrate on the major cast. As mentioned what a feast Rin and Nadeshiko ended up having and they even had a second go around after giving a few plates to the sisters. As mentioned it's late November so the days are much shorter so not too long after that major repast it was time to turn in for the night. Both gals had their own tents but more than anything Nadeshiko wanted to sleep with Rin and that's because of the urban legend ghoul Ushi who Nadeshiko was still petrified of.

Just a legend Rin said once again, go to sleep and nothing will happen which is what Nadeshiko proceeded to do, she can fall asleep anywhere at any time. Rin doused right off too but near midnight mother nature was calling and one of the main reasons for her camping at sites is that they have restrooms. So off she went at the witching hour and could the urban legend be true? After doing her duty as Rin was heading back to her tent a mysterious figure passed in front of her and seemed to hover longer than she was comfortable with. It was actually the drunken sister but Rin was taking no chances with the shadow(Ushi?!) and dashed back to her site but instead of her own tent she squirmed into Nadeshiko's which is where this episode concluded.

Not much more to add in, was hoping the ending would have been a bit more frightening but all in all another decent show and there hasn't been a dud yet. That includes the eighth episode and that recap is the following post and as mentioned may be the final one.... for now.
