"Yuru Camp" drama: Episode six recap

Air Dates: January 9th to March 26, 2020 on TV-Tokyo, Thursday nights at 12:25 am
Subs were mostly done by EcoTV but another team did at least the first show, you'll notice the font difference and the title roughly translates over to laid back camp.

Main Cast: We'll seldom see anyone besides these five, had only watched the first two episodes before writing the character info so may edit things as time goes on. The setting is Nanbu in Yamanashi prefecture which is a little over thirty miles away from Mt. Fuji. Like so amy dramas it's based upon a manga and anime.

Haruka Fukuhara as Rin Shima.... Main star of the show and she's an avid camper. However she has only done it alone as she'd rather not have others spoil her fun. So instead of joining the Outdoor Club at high school Rin is in the library club but that may not last for much longer.

Yuno Ohara as Nadeshiko Kagamihara.... New girl at high school but had met Rin a few days before her first day. Nadeshiko had no clue about camping until meeting her but quickly became such a fanatic and joined the Outdoor Club on her first day at school.

Momoko Tanabe as Chiaki Ogaki ... President of the Outdoor Club who had just two members until Nadeshiko joined. They weren't much of a camping club until then and it's located in a very tiny room until they can get to five members.

Yumena Yanai as Aoi Inuyama.... The other member of the Outdoor Club. To date they've never taken a camping trip but do have various equipment, they spend most of their days burning leaves and keeping the school grounds tidy.

Sara Shida as Ena Saito.... Rin's best friend who in these first few shows doesn't show much interest in camping though does love nature and animals. She is one kawaii young woman!!!!

Once again my current drama selection is a semi oldie but once again the subs weren't completed until well after the series finished. Someone had started the project and subbed the first show, worst ones I've ever seen. But eventually it was picked up and am so glad as Haruka is one of my top faves and try to watch all of her dramas.

Want to add in all of this 'action' is real as the cast did travel to Yamanashi to shoot the drama as you can tell by the screenshots and they did actually camp overnight many times.

New story for this episode and once again it's a two-parter so you'll have to wait a few days for the outcome. As mentioned in the above recap every episode has been slightly better than the previous one and that trend continues with this show. Above is Rin's new toy and one she had completely forgot ordering. It's a mini Yakiniku cooker which she can bring on camping trips plus it's doesn't have an open flame so it'll be allowed anywhere. Any viewer who has seen dramas has probably noticed those huge Yakiniku cookers in shows, it's usually built into a restaurant table. At the bottom often have 25 or so screenshots, the first few for today are of Rin explaining the cooking process a bit.

Before we get into the 'niku' of the story, that's the Japanese word for meat, will talk briefly about the present Rin bought in the last episode when she took a camping trip to Nagano. It was a box of local chocolates from the city but Rin had a hard time giving it to Nadeshiko and the box had been crammed into her bag for days. Rin tried to talk her best friend Ena into giving the  box to Nadeshiko but it was a no go, when you  buy a present for someone you need to give it to them personally. I was thinking giving Nadeshiko the box of chocolates would kind of 'cement' their friendship, the two have become much closer but Rin still has that unknown aversion to getting close to others.

Eventually Rin did break down but it was after she found Nadeshiko sleeping on the floor of the library! Rin is still a member of that club and hasn't joined the Outing Club.... yet. Nadeshiko can sleep anywhere and was getting tired of waiting for Rin's conversation with Ena to end so she curled up which you can see above. Don't know where Nadeshiko puts it all and neither does Rin as she consumed that whole choco box in no time flat, that girl can eat(!) yet remains thin. But more than the sweets what drew Nadeshiko's attention was Rin's new camping equipment.

That of course is the Yakiniku cooker, like Ena at first Nadeshiko thought it was a miniature Offering Box which you see often at shrines. But it wasn't and Rin explained everything about how it works and Nadeshiko was more excited than Rin. However where and when could they use the cooker was the question, by now it's the last or second to last week of November. Not yet Winter but it is chilly out there, especially at night but there was no way Nadeshiko wanted to wait until Spring. Above are her two mates in the Outing Club, the middle female is the president Chiaki and she had a place in mind the two could travel to.

Shame we don't see more of Yurina Yanagi who is in the middle above. She plays Nadeshiko's older sister Sakura and she's one of my all time fave gravure models. On with the story and the location Chiaki recommended was Lake Shibire which is about twenty miles south of Yamanashi and have I learned so much geography. But is it what Chiako claims it to be, a haunted lake and forest?! She told Nadeshiko the gruesome history of the area and told her to do investigating while they were there, Nadeshiko gets petrified easily but no so with Rin.

So off to the haunted lake and the pair were driven by Sakura who we at least see in most episodes. The girls will be spending the night but it won't be at a campground and they need to climb a long, thin path up a mountain to reach the lake. Every little noise in the woods had Nadeshiko on edge and she even stopped at a monument to give an offering for their safety, meanwhile Rin was cool as a cucumber. While Nadeshiko was praying at the monument, which probably wasn't a true one, this episode came to it's conclusion and the whole of episode seven will be part two of the trip. A show is just 23 minutes in length and sure the pair or at least Nadeshiko will be scared silly during the night.

Did this pair of recaps in record time, didn't think they would be done for another 3-4 days. We've hit the halfway point and at first was unsure whether I would finish recapping the whole series. Will do it as it's nice to do much briefer recaps plus I'm enjoying this drama immensely. Actually wrote this up yesterday but didn't publish it until today. Won't have time to view any shows for the next two days so expect the next pair of posts on Friday.
