"Kimi to Sekai ga Owaru Hi ni" drama: Season two, episode four recap

Air Dates: March 21st until April 25, 2021 on Hulu-TV, Sundays at midnight
First season had ten episodes, this one has six and subs were once again dome by Manxcat

Ratings: Unknown as this season airs on Hulu-TV which is a cable network.
First season had an average of 7.7%, final show was the highest at 8.4%.

Main Cast: Will have two sections, this first one are the returning characters from season one. The first season's action began at the end of September 2019 and ended right around December 7th though the weather is still mild. Season two started off three weeks after the conclusion of season one so it's about to become 2020. The setting was the island of Saruno in Miura Bay but now all of the action is taking place at the House of Hope in Chiba. Not sure of the time after a while as it's never discussed, seems to be getting warmer out so perhaps it's March by now.

Ryoma Takeuchi as Hibikia Mamiya.... Main star of the drama who is 25 in age and was an auto mechanic until the Golem Virus plagued the city of Miura. He's the unofficial leader of the group which at one time totaled ten but was whittled down to five but they've added a few more survivors. Hibiki is the boyfriend of Kurumi and had all intentions of proposing until the virus hit. He was a mellow man but has changed his ways and has become a ruthless killer but only to defend his group.

Ayami Nakajo as Kurumi Ogasawara.... Also 25 like her boyfriend and had been a second year intern at the Miura hospital. She had been saved by the special Defense Forces and ended up working with the crazed doctor Shuto to develop a vaccine for the virus. However Kurumi was used badly and it appears she may slowly be turning into a Golem, that's a Zombie like creature.

Marie Iitoyo as Kanae Hiiragi.... Third year college student who is 22 in age and was trapped in an elevator with four other survivors when the virus struck which saved them. Kanae was such a quiet introvert when the series began but has also changed her ways and with Hibiki defends the group as she's now an expert at archery. She has such a crush on Hibiki and acts quite cold towards Kurumi who she may want to see dead!

Sho Kasamatsu as Hiro Todoroki.... He's also 25 in age and had gone to school with Hibiki and Kurumi who he openly loves. Todoroki was a detective and his partner was killed in season one's second episode. He's kind of a hothead and though a member of the group isn't all that trustworthy and really despises Hibiki.

Sports Makita as Yohei Komoto.... Owned a moving company and had been stuck in the elevator with his worker Min-Jun and three others still living. He's an older man who doesn't do all that much for the group but has at times pitched in to help.

Tamae Ando as Shoko Mihara.... Middle aged woman who is the mother to the below girl, she's presently not on the island with the group but at the 'House of Hope' in Chiba.

Naho Yokomizu as Yuzuki Mihara.... Shoko's twelve year old daughter who has asthma.

Hyunri as Yoon Jian.... She's a Korean doctor who came to Japan to help Shuto create a vaccine for the virus but unknown to her it wasn't a vaccine. Her brother was also in Japan but had been killed at the end of episode seven by a Golem bite, Jian is now part of Hibiki's group.

Toshihito Kokubo as Tsuboi.... Leader of the Swords group who are a rival of Hibiki's. The two have never seen eye to eye but on occasion have worked together when both groups are in danger. The Swords are also on Saruno island but tensions are running high between the groups.

Kodai Asaka as Rikuto Kuwato.... Former Defense Forces corporal who defected to Hibiki's group in episode nine when Shuto became too crazed, he's a man you want on your side in a battle.

Kenishi Takito as Koki Shuto... Though he died in the final episode of season one added him in as he played such an important part to the story. Shuto had been trying to find a potion to cure his dead wife(!) but that got out of control, those experiments eventually became the Golem virus.

Whew, that above took a while to write up! These are the new characters introduced in the second season who are living at the 'House of Hope' safe shelter in Chiba. Will be updating the bios as we just met them at the end of this first episode.

Kanata Hongo as Ren Akiyoshi.... Misako's son and had been the managing director of the resort. Bit of a quiet young man who brought Kurumi and Hibiki to the safe house. Upon the death of his mother Ren is now the leader of the shelter.

Hisashi Yoshizawa as Shohei Noro.... First person to meet Hibiki's group as he had traveled to Saruno island but was sent away almost immediately. They met up again in episode two and are getting along much better, Noro has become the 'middle man' between the groups.

Mantaro Koichi as Takuro Mamiya.... Hibiki's father who had deserted his son when he was fifteen, we didn't meet him in the first show. We did in the second episode as Mamiya is also a survivor at the 'House of Hope' but he's suffering from severe chest pains.

The main characters who are now deceased.

Mari Hamada as Misako Akiyoshi... Was the owner of the House of Hope and also the leader of the survivors at this once safe Chiba location. Her son is Ren who took over her duties once she died and was surprised she was written out of the story so quickly. Near the end of the second episode Misako was bitten by a Golem, she was turning into one and had to be slain by Hibiki.

Shohei Uno as Doctor Omaezaki.... Once worked on Shuto's team but when he realized the doctor wasn't working on a vaccine he fled the Camp Yokosuka base. First he went to the Swords group but eventually switched over to help Hibiki and his mates. In the second episode Omaezaki was shot by Tsuboi when he questioned his motives for raiding the House of Hope.

Glad I only have to write the above once, whew again! Just added in that small section on who is now deceased, sadly will have to add one more in for the next recap though the character isn't listed above. Been a while since those first three recaps so may be a wise idea to skim through them to see where we stand, things are so much different than the first season. Have viewed episodes four and five, the final isn't ready yet which is okay as I'd rather write up these recaps first before viewing the last episode.

The shows have gotten a bit longer. First few were only around forty minutes in length but these last two have been over fifty. However think it's been more of a negative than a positive as some scenes have lasted much longer than was needed. Overall it's been a decent series but the first season was much better, not as much action or Golems in this second season. Let's get to the recap and what a huge intro this drama has, at the bottom will have some new info that surprised me.

It's been close to three weeks since that last recap so I also forgot a few things. But that last episode ended off with Ren telling the House of Hope residents that he was engaged to Kurumi, kind of shocked her too. There was a new rule at the shelter that a person was only allowed to stay if they were related to someone which wasn't the case for Kurumi. The dastardly resident Shigeru wanted Kurumi to be expelled for not being related to any other person plus the fact she has the Golem virus but after four months still hasn't turned into a creature. Shigeru is just a class A jerk and didn't he realize Kurumi's medical skills were needed, she already saved one life. So because of that possible expulsion Ren blurted out that engagement news, for now it's not the truth but deep down he's in love with her.

The House of Hope had two main Scouts which protected the shelter and also looked for supplies. However the pair never returned from their excursion to Saruno island which is now overrun with Golems, the new scouts should be one of the newbies from the island. Quickly Todoroki volunteered for the assignment, think he just wanted to stay away from the other residents. Right after Kanae also said she would be his partner to his fury, the pair did have that romantic encounter in the last show but now the two both think it was a mistake. Can't ask for a better pair to protect the grounds as Todoroki was once a detective whose partner was killed in the first season. Kanae has changed more than any other character as she's gone from being such a weak and introverted person to being such an expert archer and has killed dozens of Golems to date.

Above the pair ran into Tsuboi during their rounds. He was the leader of the Swords group whose members have all been killed. Tsuboi is still irate at his assistant(girlfriend?) Haru being killed by a Golem and is seeking revenge, to him a resident at the shelter is behind the killing. It was the last we saw of Todoroki and Kanae in this show as after that encounter both were conked over the head by an unseen person. They're both tied up in two separate sheds but both play a key factor in the next show. Another character we really didn't see was Hibiki who is the star of the drama but he did make an appearance in the last twenty seconds. He was on a mission to Fukushima as there was a rumor a vaccine for the Golem virus was there. Hibiki will do anything to save Kurumi even though she's still suffering from amnesia, it's a 150 mile journey by foot!

Though the House of Hope had a large volume of supplies in the beginning they're naturally dwindling after about five months. The main item is water though unknown to everyone else Ren had been working on a plan to create some wells to solve that problem but his efforts were discovered by Kurumi who really admired Ren for being so proactive. That water supply is creating some tension at the shelter and one night during dinner the evil Shigeru accused the twelve year old girl Yuzuki of taking an extra bottle of water. That didn't happen but Shigeru is looking for any excuse to drive out the new survivors, it took her 'new father' Kotomo to save the day. Kotomo, Yuzuki, her mother Shoko and the young lad Shori have been posing as a family to remain at the House of Hope, they are beginning to act like a real family. However Shigeru overheard some talk of them not being related, Yuzuki and Shoko would be able to stay but will Kotomo and 'his son' Shori be expelled from the shelter?

Kotomo expressed his worries to Kurumi who talked it over with Ren, he's still the leader of the shelter but feel deep down that Shigeru wants to depose him. Ren and Kurumi did talk to the other residents and she did bring up a solid question, 'What is a family?'. To her the four are, if it were a all possible feel that Kotomo and Shoko would get hitched so for now they're being allowed to stay. Least Kotomo has been a positive person at the shelter as he's been helping out at their warehouse and doing other minor tasks. To him wearing a tie shows respect even though it's not needed at the shelter, so he has been wearing one though one day discovered he had lost it. The young girl Yuzuki is twelve in age and that's when one starts to become a bit rebellious. She's been that way to her 'father' Kotomo as she doesn't understand why he works so hard and apologizes for things that weren't his fault. Yuzuki got so out of hand she even slapped Kotomo hard one evening which did disappoint him, though around fifty in age he had never been married.

After a talk with her mother Shoko Yuzuki began to realize she may have been in the wrong about Kotomo who has only had her and Shori's best interests at heart. Yuzuki even went to look for his lost tie which she did find at the warehouse but tragedy soon struck as she tripped over a pipe which sent about twenty of them toppling on top of Yuzuki. She was knocked unconscious but was luckily found in time by some residents and Kotomo who carried her in a panic back to the shelter. Kurumi may still have amnesia but has regained her knowledge of her medical training and Yuzuki recovered quickly though has to be in a wheelchair for a while. Shigeru had forbid Yuzuki from getting any of the shelter's blood supply, however Kotomo had the same blood type which was A, that act and the way he saved Yuzuki has almost made them a true father and daughter.

So as you can see above Ren has 'officially' recognized the four as a family and is allowing them to stay, needless to say Shigeru was furious. One other incident took place during the time Yuzuki was brought injured to the shelter. Golems are attracted to blood and she was bleeding quite bad as a trail of her blood led to the shelter. Somehow a Golem was able to crawl all the way up the long driveway, enter the shelter and come close to attacking the residents! They fled in fear but sticking around was Ren who though the shelter's leader is kind of a wimp but did show some spunk in the final episode. He had never killed a Golem but with some help and tips from the teen boy Shori was able to stab the Golem in the head which you can see below.

That second screenshot is after that incident when the devilish resident Shigeru encountered Ren on the grounds of the House of Hope. He asked Ren if he had thought about how a Golem was able to get into the shelter which he didn't have an answer to. Know I thought and sure most viewers did at the time Shigeru that was referring to the new residents from Saruno island and it's them that are attracting the Golems. Not really a spoiler but in the final episode we did learn about what Shigeru was talking about but why didn't he just come out and say it?

On to the final two minutes and Ren ended up in the infirmary that Kurumi has set up for the residents. He needed to have his injuries checked out from the skirmish he had with that Golem but it soon turned a bit romantic. In the last half minute for the first time Ren ended up attempting to kiss Kurumi and she was very willing, after all the two may soon be man and wife. But while they were embracing who should walk through the doors of the infirmary but.... Hibiki!!!! We hadn't seen him since the beginning of the third show when he began his journey to Fukushima to get a vaccine for Kurumi. If he was successful will remain a mystery until the next recap as this episode ended on that note.

Though the shows have been getting longer the recaps haven't as what's been going on is that many scenes have become a bit longer but those ones have been kind of uninteresting. That news mentioned at the top was a surprise to me and many viewers. At the end of the sixth show, which I viewed just before writing up the final segment, it was announced there's going to be a third season! That came out of nowhere and perhaps because of that is why these final few shows were just so-so. Will talk about it more in the final two recaps which are the next posts.
