Jurina Matsui: "Death Cash" drama episode nine recap and screenshots

 Down to the final two recaps, going to miss viewing it as it turned out to be one of the better shows for 2016 though the competition wasn't too tough. Every other episode seemed to end off with two cliffhangers and the eighth show was no different, lets get to the first one which was about Professor Zaitsu getting shot and now detective Wakamoto is on the run being the suspect in the murder.

 But besides being on the run Wakamoto is still looking for clues about the death cash curse. We now know there were two villagers that weren't killed when the curse was unleashed, one has been found but the key to the mystery is the still missing person who is presumed dead. The other survivor has informed Wakamoto that the name of the person was Kodera but according to the village of Egibura's death records Kodera died many years ago.
 To Wakamoto the death was a sham and he was out to find out about the other survivor who holds the key to the curse. Eventually a few clues fall into Wakamoto's lap and he was able to deduce who the survivor was, his trusted ally from the station who also had been an officer in Egibura. That officer's name is Takayama, few of these details may be unknown to you and if so then have them all in the previous recaps if you haven't read them.
 Wakamoto does track down Takayama but perhaps he was wishing he didn't as a trap had been set for him and now Wakamoto was tied up as Takayama's prisoner. Takayama explained a bit of the curse, the reason he wasn't killed by it was because he hadn't spent any of the death cash left behind by his former wife Natsuko. She and her two small children had died of starvation, however Takayama had still loved her but was powerless to do anything about her death.

 Cliffhanger #2 naturally involved Yuka who is the only survivor from the camping trip that took place a few months prior and when the death cash was found. Her sister Koyume has a rare disease and the only way for her to live is with an operation and a special drug from America. However all that was going to cost money, 10 million yen to be exact and Yuka didn't have that kind of money.
 That's when death cash always makes an appearance, it somehow knows when a person is in dire need of money and shows up out of the blue. Through the entire show there was no way Yuka would spend the cash if it was delivered to her but she didn't need ten million yen like she does now. You don't need to say a chant or do some magic spell, the cash just suddenly appears in front of you.
 That's what happened in the final scene as Yuka was in Koyume's empty room when the bed started shaking. That went on for a while but suddenly stopped, there was no surprise to Yuka or us what was under the covers. As she stripped them back the bed was loaded with ten thousand yen notes, just enough for her sister's operation. Of course spending it would mean an inescapable death for Yuka but she had no choice and delivered the money to a bank.

 That was the end of Yuka for the show and as a matter of fact that was the final scene. One other note which is that we finally found out some details about the death of Wakamoto's sister. That had taken place ten years ago as she was held hostage by a bank robber whose robbery had gone wrong. He demanded a ransom but Wakamoto wouldn't hear of it and went out to save his sister.
 Wakamoto did find his sister and the criminal but at that moment knowing he wouldn't get the ransom money the robber shot his sister dead. There was nothing Wakamoto could have done and in his fury shot the robber, it's been a personal curse that's hung over him since.
 Seems like a short recap but there weren't too many scenes, mainly the few that were described. Quite a few questions were answered though such as what happened to the second survivor and about the death of Wakamoto's sister. She did resemble Yuka which to many seemed why he's so gung-ho about protecting her. One more episode to go and the next post has the recap for the finale.

 Not a drama writer but would think the last episode would be the hardest one to do which is why so many are a disappointment. For the first seven minutes of this 23 minute show thought that would be the case again but it quickly changed directions and turned out to be fitting conclusion.
 The previous show ended off with Wakamoto being held hostage by Takayama, one of two people who survived the death cash curse. He had survived because he was still in love with his former wife Natsuko who was the reason for the curse. The villagers of Egibura had shunned Natsuko and her two children many years before which led to their deaths by starvation.
 This scene didn't go long into this episode as the pair were discovered by Wakamoto's supervisor Iori. At first I thought she was a bad person as she and Wakamoto definitely didn't care for each other but she turned out to be an ally of Wakamoto's and helped him out towards the end. She was also able to prove Wakamoto was innocent of Professor's Zaitsu's murder which was done by Takayama. But the main cliffhanger from the last two shows dealt with Yuka and her sister's rare disease.

 The sole survivor of all the people on the school camping trip where the death cash was found is Yuka. She swore that she would never use the death cash but now that her sister is facing death unless she can get ten million yen for an operation and medicine she has no choice. Ten million yen had been 'delivered' to her at the conclusion of episode nine, Yuka has deposited the cash into a bank and now the operation is on.
 Mysterious things start happening right away once the operation gets underway. First a small bottle falls onto the floor which wasn't noticed by anyone in the operating room. The bottle has a mind of it's own thanks to the curse and starts rolling unnoticed through the halls of the hospital. It somehow was able to change the names of the patients on the electronic board but only for a few seconds.
 It only needed to be changed for a few seconds as Yuka came running by as there was a problem in the operating room. When Yuka looked at the board she took note of the operating room number and ran towards it. Right after the sign changed back to the correct room numbers, it was all a lure to get Yuka to go to an abandoned room.

 Upon entering the room Yuka knew right away something was wrong but before she could escape the room the door was quickly locked. That cursed bottle is unstoppable as it's going around the room knocking things over and managing to loosen screws on shelves which tumble on to Yuka. Yuka is now trapped on the floor with a drill being slowly lowered to her face, looks like she's met her death cash curse.
 Somehow, even though he was corridors away, Wakamoto heard her screams and went running to save Yuka. It was a struggle but eventually Wakamoto was able to pry the door open and save Yuka before the drill was able to do dental work on her. That bottle was still floating around and managed to knock over a table with scalpels on them.
 Those scalpels were headed at tremendous speed towards Yuka but at the last second Wakamoto was able to jump in front of her. But those objects needed a stopping point which was Wakamoto's back, to Yuka's dismay he lay dying in front of her. But how she wondered, Yuka was the one who spent the death cash so shouldn't she have been the one killed?

 Takayama had revealed to Wakamoto there was one way to reverse the curse which was by transferring the money. What Wakamoto had done was go to bank where Yuka had deposited the death cash, he told the officials there the bills may be counterfeit. Wakamoto took the bills but replaced the ten million yen with his own money which meant he was the one who had paid for Koyume's operation.
 Shortly after that confession Wakamoto passes away, the operation went well as Koyume is now back to normal and it seemed there the series would end. Not so as we fast forward three years with Yuka walking to work. She meets up with Koyume who is now a college student and at first we didn't know what the meaning of this short scene was.
 But where Yuka was walking to was the police station as she's now a member of the force, meeting with Wakamoto changed her entire outlook on life. She now also wants to do what she can to help others in need and that may not be too long in happening. In the final few seconds we notice a homeless mother and son starving on the streets. They have zero money but though the death cash curse was supposed to have ended it doesn't look that way. Out of the woman's handbag ten thousand yen bills start to fall out, perhaps a sign of a second season?

 A second season wouldn't be a bad thing, now that Yuka is on the force perhaps she could end up saving another group who are under the curse of death cash. Hope these final two recaps were okay, have truly been so ill these last three days and haven't done any posting because of it so my mind isn't working as well as it could(nothing new).
 Thought the "ON" drama was a bit better but would highly recommend this show. Moved right along, very little filler and remained interesting right up until the end. My final grade for this series is a 9/10, certainly not perfect but can't find any complaints about it. Now the problem is finding another drama that's just as good to watch, the pickings have been a bit slim out there but sure there are a few others.
 Actually there are but the main problem is too often they haven't been subbed, the subs for this drama were done by SKEvolution. Jurina looked so super in this show but to me she always looks that way, she'll have a high spot on my top twenty list which I've been lagging on.

 Zero death cash killings in the previous episode and none this time around.... that is until the final minute. That sixth episode ended off with two mini cliffhangers, let's get to the first one which dealt with Yuka's younger sister Koyume. Off the beaten track for a second but she's played by Kaya Kiyohara who I had never heard of. She could truly be the twin sister of Nana Owada from AKB, at times I can't believe it's not Nana and thought perhaps she had used an alias for this series. Don't have any pics now but will post some in the final two recaps for this drama for a comparison.

 That's a screenshot of Koyume at the top. At the conclusion of the sixth episode Koyume had found some notes in their almost empty money jar and thought Yuka had left it there. That wasn't the case but is hasn't been established either if it was death cash. On her way to the store Koyume was almost run over by a car, she manged to avoid getting hurt but injured her arm and is at the hospital. Those mysterious notes were brought only this one tome, were they really death cash?
 When Yuka heard the news she naturally thought the worst and rushed off to the hospital, luckily the injury isn't serious but for some reason they won't release Koyume and more about that coming up. Meanwhile Yuka's ally at the police station is in some very deep hot water. That's detective Wakamoto who had been the only one to believe Yuka's story about the death cash and has been working with her to find out about the curse.
 Wakamoto's main suspect in the curse is the professor of the killed students who is Zaitsu. Wakamoto had broken into his apartment and has found a link to Zaitsu and the killings but what kind of link he couldn't figure out. For his action though he was suspended from the case by Iori who is his new supervisor. The second minor cliffhanger involved Zaitsu and one of the remaining students who is still alive, Mari. Yuka had noticed them together at the end of the previous episode but what was the reason for it, could they possibly be having an affair?

 Probably not too surprising the pair are having having an affair as that kind of relationship seems to happen quite often in dramas. The two had met up at Mari's father's funeral which happened about a year prior to the current events and since then they've been a pair. Mari seems to be very level headed and isn't as interested in money as her friends so it was shocking to see her fall so easily for him.
 But unknown to her it's mainly one sided as Mari is part of Zaitsu's experiment on the death cash curse. He tricks her into thinking he has a heart disease and needs an operation quickly to continue living. His problem is he needs 10 million yen for the operation, why doesn't a college professor have access to that kind of money or insurance? Mari tries many ways to raise the money and even came close to appearing in an adult film but was somehow stopped by her estranged mother.
 Mari pleads with her mother to lend her the money but to no avail as she laughs in her face. In most cases the options at this point would be zero except there's death cash. That's what Mari was banking on and it worked as she was alone in her apartment when the mats began to tremble. When they stopped Mari peered under them and you guessed it, 10 million yen was there! Everyone thinks there's a way out to avoid the death cash curse and Mari thought she had a plan too. If she gives the money to Zaitsu for his operation she wouldn't be the one spending it so she should be safe.

 Mari quickly gathers the money and heads off to Zaitsu's place with the great news. On her way she runs into Yuka who has a knack for appearing out of nowhere. Yuka pleads with Mari not to go to Zaitsu's apartment but her pleading fell upon deaf ears as Mari pushed Yuka away and was able to hop into a cab before Yuka could stop her.
 Zaitsu didn't appear to be too surprised that Mari was able to get the money, after all he tricked he into thinking he needed an operation. This investigating Zaitsu is doing on death cash is for his thesis, one thing he was able to deduce from all of the killings was that you didn't need to spend the cash to be cursed. Just being associated with the money was enough, even though Mari didn't spend any of it just the fact that she received it was enough to curse her.
 But she did spend the cash in a non obvious way as she spent it on her love for Zaitsu. Mari took out a pen to have Zaitsu write something in her notebook but right at that moment the curse went into action. The pen cover had fallen to the floor which started a strange chain reaction of things falling. Those objects fell onto Zaitsu, as he stumbled down he fell into Mari and by accident the pen he was holding stabbed her in the throat. Out of the seven students who had gone onto the camping trip with Zaitsu Yuka is now the only one still alive.

 Zaitsu is an evil man but in his defense the killing was an accident though he was the reason the Mari had obtained the death cash. Doesn't happen until the start of the next episode but Zaitsu is arrested for the killing but they can't pin any of the other previous deaths on him or at least not yet.
 Not many left in the cast now, shame Mari is now gone as I really liked her but you knew it was coming sooner or later. While the killings have decreased the suspense and intrigue have really increased which doesn't let up through the next episode. The recap for that is in the following post and here's many more screenshots for you to enjoy. Not as much Jurina in this episode but that was okay as Yurika who played Mari is a real looker to me.
