Koe Girl drama: Episode four recap

Air Dates: April 8th to June 10, 2018 on TV-Asahi for ten episodes, aired at 2:30 am Saturdays
The video at the top is the theme song which was song by the two Haruka's

The main cast....

Haruka Fukuhara as Makoto Kikuchi.... Parents run a green grocery where she was scouted by Oshima and has struggled greatly at the beginning to be a voice actress(Seiyu).

Yurika Nakamura as Asami Kuriyama.... The best of the five females who are trying to become voice actresses, disliked Makoto at first for her lack of dedication.

Mariya Nagao as Ren Ineba.... Massive Otaku fan, especially for the 'Precure' series.

Jun Amaki as Konatsu Morimoto.... From Kansai and too often speaks in that dialect.

Aoi Yoshikura as Ryoko Ochiai.... Former child actress making a comeback as a voice actress.

The others, it's a very small cast so far and will add to the list if needed.

Haruka Tomatsu as herself.... Ex-voice actress who now hosts a popular radio show.
Shingo Tsurumi as Yuichiro Oshima... Head of Ihara Productions where the girls work.
Masaki Nakao as Katsutoshi Shoda.... Oshima's assistant.

Originally started this drama when it first came out back in April 2018 and even recapped the first two episodes. The third show was subbed and said I would continue once more were done. However those subs weren't coming or at least at the time they weren't as I think the team doing them dropped the project. Forgot about the drama for a long time but then discovered the whole series was subbed and am really glad about that as it seemed like such a fun show.
So am doing the first two recaps over as the others were done such a long time ago. For now the plan is to do two batches of five recaps in a row as the series has ten episodes. The shows are only 23 minutes long so these shouldn't be too lengthy which will make reading them much easier. Really had wanted to see another series with Haruka who is the star of the show and has 80% of the screen time, she's one superb actress. Will leave this intro up for this first batch but may tweak things here and there, let's get to the fourth of these five recaps.

While Makoto's career so far hasn't been a rousing success she has been much busier and perhaps there is hope for her in the future as a Seiyu. So with Makoto a bit entrenched we're finally able to see a bit more of her four housemates who are the focus of at least the next three shows, have viewed up to the sixth episode. First voice actress in training we get to see more of is Ren who is played by Mariya who is such a huge fave of so many viewers.
In this series Ren is such an otaku which is a term mainly used for males. Ren's life revolves around animes and mangas with her all time fave being the 'Suite Precure' series. Thought it was one created for this drama but went and checked, it is a real life anime and has had at least eight seasons. Ren has received a small role as Kana in the new season beginning and needless to say she's walking on air as her ultimate dream has come true.
No need for much practicing as Ren knows simply every line of every character in the books and prior seasons. However being a fan doesn't mean you're going to be a successful Seiyu as Ren quickly found out. Her role wasn't a huge one but as was the case of Makoto in the previous recap she flubbed the few lines she had. Ren's problem which has been noticed by her friends, manager and producer is that she doesn't act 'human enough' so she can't bring true feelings to her character.

To the rescue once again came Haruka the popular radio show host who Makoto seems to run into every day. Haruka suggested that Ren try observing how regular people act and speak in real life, to Makoto that was a brilliant idea so the next day she dragged Ren to her family's green grocery store. Makoto told her friend to sit and watch how others go about their daily lives and to mainly observe how they speak to each other. Ren's problem isn't that she doesn't have a good voice but at every audition and role she's had has always spoken like an anime character.
Sometimes in animes the Seiyu needs to speak like a normal person would, that's what Ren hasn't been doing and it's really held back her career. At Makoto's store Ren has gained a bit of knowledge at how people act and speak but when she tried to do the same as a saleslady she bombed badly. But things take practice and that's a bit of the theme throughout this series as there's no overnight sensation and you have to be willing to study long and hard.
Studying long and hard is what Ren ended up doing for the next few days in preparation for her next voicing session. All the housemates have been helping out their friend every minute they can, especially Makoto who is the rah-rah girl of the house. Even Asami has helped out a bit by giving her some advice which was a bit hidden as she doesn't want to come off as a helpful person for some reason. But Asami does care about the other four girls in the house as she was waiting patiently at home for Ren to return from her recording session.

To date all of the girls have had their share of failures, perhaps even Asami though her turn in the spotlight hasn't happened yet. So of course at the recording session for 'Suite Precure' Ren was a smashing success as she finally was able to sound more like a normal human being which is what was required in the script. It's an anime that will be airing for a season, the producer was so impressed with how much better Ren sounds that he hired her on to voice Kana for the next episode.
Ren still has a bit of work to do but she made some impressive gains this show which is what the other girls do in the upcoming episodes. If that sounds like it could signal the end of this recap you guessed correctly as the show came to it's conclusion with once again Haruka's radio show broadcast. Minus the credits an episode is only about 22 minutes long so obviously only so much can happen and even have to stretch things out a bit to make it this long.
Was good to see Mariya in a show as I've only seen her on a few occasions before. She's not a superb actress but she's done extremely well so far in this series but it's been a quiet year for her acting after a busy 2018. But think she's got a role in a daytime soap that's currently airing, she also has a photobook that's going to be released in two weeks.
