"Kimi to Sekai ga Owaru Hi ni" drama: Season two, episode three recap

Air Dates: March 21st until April 25, 2021 on Hulu-TV, Sundays at midnight
First season had ten episodes, this one has six and subs were once again dome by Manxcat

Ratings: Unknown as this season airs on Hulu-TV which is a cable network.
First season had an average of 7.7%, final show was the highest at 8.4%.

Main Cast: Will have two sections, this first one are the returning characters from season one. The first season's action began at the end of September 2019 and ended right around December 7th though the weather is still mild. Season two started off three weeks after the conclusion of season one so it's about to become 2020. The setting is still the island of Saruno in Miura Bay though it appears that may soon change to a house in Chiba which is kind of far away, will discuss that in the recaps.

Ryoma Takeuchi as Hibikia Mamiya.... Main star of the drama who is 25 in age and was an auto mechanic until the Golem Virus plagued the city of Miura. He's the unofficial leader of the group which at one time totaled ten but was whittled down to five but they've added a few more survivors. Hibiki is the boyfriend of Kurumi and had all intentions of proposing until the virus hit. He was a mellow man but has changed his ways and has become a ruthless killer but only to defend his group.

Ayami Nakajo as Kurumi Ogasawara.... Also 25 like her boyfriend and had been a second year intern at the Miura hospital. She had been saved by the special Defense Forces and ended up working with the crazed doctor Shuto to develop a vaccine for the virus. However Kurumi was used badly and it appears she may slowly be turning into a Golem, that's a Zombie like creature.

Marie Iitoyo as Kanae Hiiragi.... Third year college student who is 22 in age and was trapped in an elevator with four other survivors when the virus struck which saved them. Kanae was such a quiet introvert when the series began but has also changed her ways and with Hibiki defends the group as she's now an expert at archery. She has such a crush on Hibiki and acts quite cold towards Kurumi who she may want to see dead!

Sho Kasamatsu as Hiro Todoroki.... He's also 25 in age and had gone to school with Hibiki and Kurumi who he openly loves. Todoroki was a detective and his partner was killed in season one's second episode. He's kind of a hothead and though a member of the group isn't all that trustworthy and really despises Hibiki.

Sports Makita as Yohei Komoto.... Owned a moving company and had been stuck in the elevator with his worker Min-Jun and three others still living. He's an older man who doesn't do all that much for the group but has at times pitched in to help.

Tamae Ando as Shoko Mihara.... Middle aged woman who is the mother to the below girl, she's presently not on the island with the group but at the 'House of Hope' in Chiba.

Naho Yokomizu as Yuzuki Mihara.... Shoko's twelve year old daughter who has asthma.

Hyunri as Yoon Jian.... She's a Korean doctor who came to Japan to help Shuto create a vaccine for the virus but unknown to her it wasn't a vaccine. Her brother was also in Japan but had been killed at the end of episode seven by a Golem bite, Jian is now part of Hibiki's group.

Toshihito Kokubo as Tsuboi.... Leader of the Swords group who are a rival of Hibiki's. The two have never seen eye to eye but on occasion have worked together when both groups are in danger. The Swords are also on Saruno island but tensions are running high between the groups.

Kodai Asaka as Rikuto Kuwato.... Former Defense Forces corporal who defected to Hibiki's group in episode nine when Shuto became too crazed, he's a man you want on your side in a battle.

Shohei Uno as Doctor Omaezaki.... Once worked on Shuto's team but when he realized the doctor wasn't working on a vaccine he fled the Camp Yokosuka base. First he went to the Swords group but eventually switched over to help Hibiki and his mates.

Kenishi Takito as Koki Shuto... Though he died in the final episode of season one added him in as he played such an important part to the story. Shuto had been trying to find a potion to cure his dead wife(!) but that got out of control, those experiments eventually became the Golem virus.

Whew, that above took a while to write up! These are the new characters introduced in the second season who are living at the 'House of Hope' safe shelter in Chiba. Will be updating the bios as we just met them at the end of this first episode.

Kanata Hongo as Ren Akiyoshi.... Misako's son and had been the managing director of the resort. Bit of a quiet young man who brought Kurumi and Hibiki to the safe house. Upon the death of his mother Ren is now the leader of the shelter.

Hisashi Yoshizawa as Shohei Noro.... First person to meet Hibiki's group as he had traveled to Saruno island but was sent away almost immediately. They met up again in episode two and are getting along much better, Noro has become the 'middle man' between the groups.

Mantaro Koichi as Takuro Mamiya.... Hibiki's father who had deserted his son when he was fifteen, we didn't meet him in the first show. We did in the second episode as Mamiya is also a survivor at the 'House of Hope' but he's suffering from severe chest pains.

The main characters who are now deceased.

Mari Hamada as Misako Akiyoshi... Was the owner of the House of Hope and also the leader of the survivors at this once safe Chiba location. Her son is Ren who took over her duties once she died and was surprised she was written out of the story so quickly. Near the end of the second episode Misako was bitten by a Golem, she was turning into one and had to be slain by Hibiki.

Shohei Uno as Doctor Omaezaki.... Once worked on Shuto's team but when he realized the doctor wasn't working on a vaccine he fled the Camp Yokosuka base. First he went to the Swords group but eventually switched over to help Hibiki and his mates. In the second episode Omaezaki was shot by Tsuboi when he questioned his motives for raiding the House of Hope.

Links to the recaps to season one's final two shows if you want to see what took place before this season and quite a bit did:   Episode nine .... Episode ten

Glad I only have to write the above once, whew again! Just added in that small section on who is now deceased, sadly will have to add one more in for the next recap. Wrote up all three recaps many days in advance but held off on publishing them until the fourth episode was available so there won't be a large gap between the two batches of recaps. The first two shows were about forty minutes each, this was much longer as it was close to fifty and to me was the best of this second season.

In an odd twist one person you won't be seeing in this recap is the drama's star Hibiki. He's on his way to a lab in Fukushima to get a vaccine to cure Kurumi's unique Golem virus, she's had the virus for over a month but still hasn't changed into a creature. But she has developed a case of amnesia and forgot her entire past but at the end she did remember much of her medical training which you'll read all about. The tension at the House of Hope is extremely high, the 'elite residents' can't stand Shoko and her daughter who are staying there, there's some rules that were created which you'll be reading about.

That's the House of Hope in the top screenshot, the second is of Ren who because of his mother's death in the last episode has now become the director of the shelter. He's on the side of the new survivors along with an aide named Noro but definitely not on their side is Misako's former assistant Shigeru. We met him in this show and what an A+ jerk this man is, he wants nothing more than to expel the new survivors but that predicament is about to get much worse. In that bottom screenshot are five of the Saruno island survivors who have made the trek to Chiba, by boat? That man is Tsuboi who has forced the others to go with him to the shelter to raid it of it's food and supplies, they were all against his plan but went with the man to hopefully dispose of him.

One thing the group noticed is that the area is no longer safe as the forest surrounding the House of Hope has Golems, it appears they're coming out of a cave which just one of the group noticed. The five appeared at the locked gates to the shelter but weren't going to be allowed in until the middle aged woman Shoko came to their rescue. A new law at the House of Hope is that any new survivors have to be related and of course none of the five were. But Shoko told Shigeru that the older man Kotomo was her husband, Tsuboi was her brother, Shori was her son and added in that the other two, Kanae and Todoroki, were married. Can't say Shoko was that convincing with her story but for now the five have been allowed into the safe shelter though all of their weapons were confiscated but Tsuboi managed to slip in a pistol.

Needles to say the other residents weren't too thrilled with even more survivors, the original group there were some wealthy people who were going to join the resort. To me it's made no sense up until now how the groups won't work with each other, wouldn't the saying there's safety in numbers apply here? Especially with the experience the five have with fighting Golems, perhaps the residents are safe now but for how much longer? But it is true the food won't last forever and another new rule at the shelter is that new survivors only get half the portions as others do. Not all of the survivors from Saruno island made the trek to Chiba, staying behind just in case there was a trap was the Korean doctor Jian and the Defense Forces corporal Kuwata, will talk about all of their adventures now.

When a man and woman are stuck on an island something romantic is bound to happen. The pair of Jian and Kuwata were developing deep feelings for each other and it was only a matter of time before the two had their first under-the-covers encounter. Sadly for the possible lovebirds that chance never took place as somehow on this island appearing were Golems, how could they possibly have gotten there? Kuwata has surmised someone is bringing the creatures to the island but how and why? Not just a few as before they realized what was happening dozens had arrived on the scene, quickly Kuwata and Jian found a safe spot but that location is soon under siege. And as you can see above all that Kuwata had was a pistol which is soon empty of ammo. Kuwata must have killed ten of the Golems but that was just a drop in the bucket, is this the end for these two likable characters?

Yes and no, one thing Kuwata confessed to Jian was that he had always wanted to be a hero which is why he joined the Defense Forces. He didn't attain his goal with the army but his plan is to go out in style and finally be a hero! What Kuwata did was to slice open a deep gash in his left arm, blood is what really attracts the Golems. He opened their tiny cage and fled from it with the creatures in pursuit. Kuwata's plan was that it would give Jian enough time to flee from the Golems which worked but she wanted to stay, where could she escape to? Eventually Kuwata convinced the woman to leave the hideout which Jian did while the Golems soon put an end to Kuwata's life. Jian appears to be safe but where she's hiding out and what her next steps will be are unknown for now.

On the island was a very mysterious man who we saw for a few seconds here and there, also once near the House of Hope in Chiba. Seems he has semi control of the Golems and don't want to talk about this man(creature?) yet and will wait until the fourth recap when the details will be better known, that's the man in the third screenshot below. Their romantic encounter never happened but one did which took place at the shelter. Guess when you're cooped up together for so long certain emotions come out which took place between the fake married couple of Kanae and Todoroki. Both were feeling a bit guilty about being one of the few survivors in Japan, Kanae more so as she instigated their 'marriage consummation' though it wasn't a long scene and did make Nao feel jealous! The following morning when Todoroki arose Kanae had slipped out of bed and was wandering around the shelter's grounds, good thing she was as it turned into the final and most intense scene of the show.

Among the original residents of the House of Hope was a woman about thirty in age named Nanako. While the other survivors were such elitist snobs she was a decent person and also one who was scheduled to give birth in about a week. To stay in shape she tried to take 10,000 steps each day and this morning was out walking along the shelter's grounds. But Nanako's due date is fast approaching and while on that walk her water has broke, she screamed for help but no person was around. However she wasn't alone as popping out of nowhere was a Golem who quickly attacked Nanako, being pregnant she couldn't fight back and it seems her life is about to end. But once again saving the day was Kanae who was also out for a morning stroll. At one time she was such a mild person but has become ruthless at fighting Golems. Seeing Nanako was in danger she attacked the Golem with a hefty stick and was able to whisk the pregnant woman off to safety.... however Nanako was bitten by the Golem!

Bit of an enigma on what to do with Nanako for Shigeru and the other residents, had she been a person from Saruno island they would have been killed immediately. And after a short discussion that is the decision of the group to get rid of Nanako who is rapidly becoming a Golem but is tied up and shouldn't be able to hurt anyone. But the biggest question by far is what's to become of Nanako's unborn baby? Of course her husband doesn't want his wife to die but there may be no alternative, Nanako still retained enough sense and requested that they let her child be born and then kill her! Most of the residents seemed to think that'll be a solution but will Nanako's baby be infected with the virus?

There's only one way to find out but another question is who can deliver the baby? Arriving on the scene was Kurumi who still suffers from amnesia and can't remember her past. However for the last few days she's been poring over medical books trying to jog her memory, didn't work but she seemed to recall so much of her medical training. So along with Kanae the pair will deliver Nanako's baby and they cleared the dining room for the delicate procedure. Unknown to them protecting them in the wings was Todoroki and now who does he love more? Wasn't an easy delivery and at one time it appeared Nanako had succumbed to the virus but Kurumi was able to perform a miracle and the baby was born healthy. More than that the baby wasn't affected by the virus but shortly after the birth Kanae needed to slay the woman who had become a full fledged Golem.

We're almost at the end and there was one more incident which I'm curious on how it'll end. The new rule at the House of Hope is that all survivors from the island had to be related to someone at the shelter. Kurumi isn't and even though she performed such a miracle Shigeru wants her to depart ASAP. 'Not so fast!' exclaimed the shelter's new director Ren who is a decent guy and has tried to make things fair for everyone. Ren told the crowd of survivors that Kurumi is related to someone there... himself?! That's because the two of them are engaged, Kurumi and the Saruno group looked on in bewilderment and will the pair be forced to wed before the return of Hibiki?

Forgot to add in that at the end the original shelter residents found out that Kurumi is infected wit the virus but she's had it for over five weeks and still seems fine save for the amnesia. Also that Tsuboi above has found more Golems in the area and all have that new and strange X mark on them, from that mysterious new man we'll meet in the next show?

Wanted to wait until the fourth episode was available before publishing this but it didn't turn out that way. Finished this three days ago and seeing as how the fifth show airs tomorrow didn't want to hold on to these three recaps much longer. Hopefully there won't be too long of a wait for the remaining shows and will do the final three posts as quickly as I can. This season started out a bit sluggish compared to the first one but it's really picked up steam in the last 1 1/2 episodes and has become a decent show, of course if you viewed the first season you definitely need to watch this one.
