"Kamen Rider Geats" series: Episode nine of ?? recap

Air Dates: September 4th until August 2023(!), Sunday mornings at 9:00 am on TV-Asahi
Screenwriter: Yuuya Takahashi     Subs done by Anon at NYAA

Main Cast: This will be an ongoing work in progress and this section may never be 100% complete! Most was written up after viewing the first episode though we didn't meet every character and sure a bit more will be added in for every show but hopefully most things will be known by the fifth or so episode. All of the riders are fighting an alien race called Jamato.

Desire Grand Prix rules

Not all about the game has been revealed yet but this is what's known after two episodes. The contest lasts for six months, during it a Kamen Rider gets points with the most being for killing the alien Jamatos. Points can also be earned for saving human lives and other acts of heroism but not as many as slaying a Jamato. At the end of the contest the winner gets to choose what kind of world he wants to see exist, check on Ace below to see his wish as he won the last contest. Once a contest ends any person involved will have their memories reset and know zero about the contest and Jamato army so that person can live their live in peace. If they return for another contest those memories will return. The Jammer Area is a bit like an arena, when a battle goes on the action can only take place in this smallish area and it's forbidden to leave or attack outside of it. Will update this section too as we go along.

Hideyoshi Kan as Ace Ukiyo/Kamen Rider Geats.... He truly is an ace fighter though slightly arrogant and is the most current winner of the Desire Grand Prix. Ace had a very unique and selfish wish for his new world. It would be one where he would be the Star of Stars or in other words immensely popular and to say he has a huge ego would be an understatement! KR Geats has acquired too many weapons to count!

Ryuga Sato as Keiwa Sakurai/KR Tycoon.... Newest Kamen Rider who was recruited at the end of the first episode. Keiwa is the younger brother of Sara and he was a college student who had been looking for work with no success.  His weapon is a powerful Armed Arrow, also has acquired a Booster Buckle which makes weapons even more powerful. His wish if he wins the current Grand Prix is to have world peace.

Yuno Hoshino as Neon Kurama/KR Nago.... She was also recruited at the end of the first episode and is the youngest Kamen Rider. Neon comes from a very wealthy family and until becoming a 'superhero' had been a very influential celebrity influencer, especially among high school girls. Her weapon is an Armed Hammer. If Neon wins the Grand Prix her wish is to find her 'true love' of the world!

Kazuto Mokudai as Michinaga Azuma/KR Buffa(buffer).... Think the Buffa is actually short for Buffalo and he is as tough as one! He has two weapons, one being a Water Shooter and obtained his second from KR Dapan which is a Magnum. But actually these weapons change hands so often am having a hard time figuring out who has what! If Buffa wins the Grand Prix his wish is to see.... all Kamen Riders eliminated(!).... but would he be killed too? Buffa now has a Zombie Buckle, why not a true weapon it does provide protection.

KR Riders Dapan, Merry and Ginpin have been killed or eliminated from the contest.

The others of the cast, don't think many more will be added in

Kokoro Aoshima as Tsumuri.... Navigates the Grand Prix as far as figuring out the points and other tidbits go but don't know enough about her yet.

Nene Shida as Sara Sakurai.... My main reason for watching this show! She's the older sister of the newest Kamen Rider Keiwa and works as an OL. Their parents were killed over a decade ago in an accident.... that's what she thought until this episode.

Previous recaps:

It's not important to read all of these but would recommend the first two episodes as so much was explained and won't always refer back to those things.

**** Wrote the below up a week ago and had been waiting for the tenth episode. That was supposed to air on November 6th but was preempted so will just have this one recap for today. That will actually work out better for if you read this you'll see the first Desire Grand Prix ended in this episode and six months passed by that quickly? So there may be many changes to the characters and story so it'd be better to have two recaps back to back with all the new things which should be in two weeks.

Did say I would recap at least the first ten episodes and hit that mark today as the next post is for the tenth show(not!). Still am unsure how many episodes will be recapped as there are 48 of them but after this show's ending it's made me so curious on what's coming up next. Am writing this up two days before the tenth show airs and what an ending to this episode. Will explain it all in this post but can't believe what took place which is so different than other Kamen Rider series. What I'm worried about is that the top section with the bios and rules may have to be done all over. Only write it up once and edit as we go along but it takes so long and not looking forward to possibly starting anew.

Refer to the Kamen Riders as KR (name).

When the series began there were seven Kamen Riders, it slowly got whittled down to four by the end of the sixth show. Now there's just three left to protect the Earth from the Jamato army as at the end of the eighth show Keiwa aka KR Tycoon was 'retired' by Tsumuri. She's the Desire Grand Prix navigator and if she feels a Rider is too injured to fight she 'retires' them meaning they go back to their normal human lives and forget they were Riders. Was surprised that happened with KR Tycoon but wouldn't doubt if we'll be seeing him again. The last two episodes featured a battle called 'Kick the Can' against the strongest Jamato yet who is called Last Boss. At first the creature was the size of a human but is now over a hundred feet tall, he gets his strength from devouring the lives of humans! To kill the Last Boss a Rider has to kick his mysterious Can out of the Jammer Area which is the zone where the battles take place, the last two shows the Riders were unable to do that.

But in the last show first KR Buffa kicked the can away from the powerful Jamato, then KR Geats gave it another kick and finally KR Nago hit the can last sending it out of the Jammer Area, a victory for her and the Riders? No it wasn't as somehow this Jamato is still alive and the reason could be because the Jammer Area expanded which had never happened. So the war against the Last Boss is back on and to make matters worse he's swallowed the can! For the first time above we saw Tsumuri's 'boss' who is known as The Game Master, he's actually a man named Giroli who operates the 'rest center' the Riders go to between battles. He seems to know everything about the Desire Grand Prix so had a feeling the character was an important one. Now that the Can is inside the Last Boss it'll be much more difficult to get, instead of kicking it outside of the Jammer Area the goal is now to kill the Jamato! But it's much more powerful than it was, the Riders will need more weapons and very oddly they will be inside of some eggs which the Riders must protect until they hatch!

Kind of funny that an EGG will decide the future of the Earth but that's a Sentai series for you! But at least in these eggs will be a powerful weapon to slay the Last Boss, they just need time to develop. Didn't take long for KR Nago's to hatch which turned out to be a Propeller Buckle, that'll let her fly in the sky. As usual KR Buffa was irate at how things are done but settled down a bit for his new weapon will be a Drill, that's something that is needed as the Last Boss Jamato is much more larger and powerful plus the Can is embedded somewhere in his body. Meanwhile the best Rider of them all Ace aka KR Geats' egg hasn't hatched and won't for a while. But he's a sensible man and that's why he won the previous Desire Grand Prix, as a reminder the winner of the contest gets to choose what kind of world they want to live in. For winning the last contest Ace's wish was for him to be the 'Star of Stars' or in other words the most popular man on the Earth!

Finally it's time for the ultimate showdown against the Last Boss to save the Earth. Of course he has his army of Jamatos with him and of all the Rider series I've viewed they've been the weakest creatures of them all. KR's Buffa and Nago had no problem eliminating those inept fighters, just the pair for now as KR Geats is still waiting for his egg to hatch. You can see the Last Boss Jamato above, it's really grown in height plus it's powers are greater due to sucking the lives out of humans! KR Nago's Propeller weapon is handy as she could fly circles around the Last Boss but it didn't make her a better fighter and she was no match against the creature. She's not down for the count but won't be a factor in this battle but has a savior finally arrived on the scene? Yes one did and at last KR Geats' egg has hatched, inside was the most powerful buckle of them all which is called Monster. Usually his Rider uniform is red but as you can see above this new weapon has changed it to a blue uniform.

That new Drill Buckle is a powerful one but only if you can get close enough to use it against the giant Jamato. KR Buffa couldn't and actually his best weapon is called Zombie, it's not a true weapon but it does protect him and like a Zombie he can keep coming back to life. Not forever though and just like KR Nago Buffa was no match against the Last Boss. So to save the day once again was KR Geats and his new Monster weapon is truly the most powerful one to date. It can also amplify weapons so he grabbed the Drill Buckle and once again it was no contest.... but this time it wasn't the Last Boss defeating a Rider easily as he was pummeled to death by KR Geats. Once again he's proved why he's called Ace and for the second time in a row has won the Desire Grand Prix and I was a bit surprised this contest ended so quickly.

A contest lasts for six months, this was only the ninth episode and that much time has elapsed? There was only three major 'wars' so I was a bit stunned this Desire Grand Prix was settled so soon. Seeing as how they lost KR'S Buffa and Nago have been 'retired' from the game by it's navigator Tsumuri, that means they go back to their normal lives and have no recollection of being a Rider. KR Geats wish this time around was A world like this should not be granted which did confuse me but not Tsumuri who was disturbed at his new world. But we still have 39(?) episodes to go and the Grand Prix will still be going on. KR Geats has already signed up for the next contest and we did see another person for all of four seconds who said he couldn't wait to do battle with Ace. Am also thinking that the last three Riders who were 'retired' will be returning to the next contest, those being KR's Buffa, Nago and Tycoon
