"Abunai Deka" drama: Episode sixteen of 51(!!!!) recap

Air Dates: October 5, 1986 until September 27,1987 on NTV, Sunday nights at 9:00 pm
Director: Toru Murakawa, this episode's rating was 15.2%
Subs were once again done by GEO9875, this was one huge project to do so will give a huge thumbs up for doing the subs and hope the recaps gives the series it's proper justice.

Main Cast: Wrote much of this up after viewing the first two shows and know there will be a lot of editing to the bios as we have so much to learn about the characters. The first two get the most screen time by far but the other four main characters are also very key to this drama. The setting is the Minato Police Station in the Naka ward of Yokohama and the station is part of the Kanagawa prefectural police. If you enjoy J-Pop songs then this show has some superb tunes, most know I'm a fan but do prefer the music from the 80's. Plus there's no beating the hairdos of women from that era! This series also goes by the name of....

Hiroshi Tachi as Toshiki Takayama.... You'll see Taka often in the screenshots. He's about a 35 year old man who is an investigator of serious crimes and the gangsters go out of their way to avoid him! Takayama has a bit of a 'cool persona' about him and is an ace with guns, he's the partner of Oshita but seems they didn't start working closely together until the first episode. While both are aces with guns their methods also get them in hot water with their superiors but the pair usually come out on top at the end as far as solving cases go.

Kyohei Shibata as Yuji Oshita.... About the same age as Takayama but looks younger. During the first episode Oshita blurted out he's got a bit of a shady past and it surprised many he became a sergeant. He knows how to pick a lock and some other methods criminals use, sure we'll find out more as time goes on. Like his new partner Takayama he is quite adept using all guns, unlike his partner Oshita isn't much of a 'people person' as Takayama is the one who often interviews witnesses, criminals or others.

Atsuko Asana as Kaoru Mayama.... Member of the Juvenile Division which shares the same office as the Investigative Unit which Takayama and Oshita are a part of. Karou has gone out to crime scenes with the detectives but they never let her get in on the real action. However she is a tough woman who used to be a regular officer and knows how to use a gun well.

Toru Nakamura as Toru Machida.... Not a rookie but hasn't been an inspector for all that long. Machida is the best fighter in the unit and also the women swoon over him but he does have a girlfriend which he said in the first show.

Nana Kinomi as Yuko Matsumura.... How about that hairdo?! Yuko is the chief of the Juvenile Division but haven't seen her make much of a contribution to any cases so far. She does share some unknown secret from the past with the Investigative chief Kondo that took place ten years ago, will that become part of the story? She's also quite the 'Fashion Queen' who often shows up at the station in some new glittering outfit.

Shizuo Chujo as Takuzo Kondo.... Chief of the Investigation Unit, smart man but seems to be more concerned on what he'll be having for lunch! But at one time Kondo was feared by the Yokohama gangsters and has been on the force for thirty years.

There's a few more minor characters such as the detective Yoshi, chief Tanaka and female officer Hitomi,  if their roles become larger will add them onto this list.

Previous recaps

Said I would be taking a mini break after this recap but changed my mind. There's only two more episodes after this one for the second season so thought why not finish that off? So in about a week will be having the final pair of recaps for season two, the first three seasons all had nine episodes. Then will take a 2-3 week break from this show and may need it, not getting too tired of it yet but the signs are there of that happening. Did begin on the Korean series "Taxi Driver" from 2021, hope to have some posts for that soon and think that's going to be one superb drama.

This second season has had much more humor than season one though the stories are still as serious and intense. Most of the goofiness is in the opening scenes such as the one for this show. The two Investigative Division investigators Oshita and Takayama were at a bar downing beers, with them was the woman Karou from the Juvenile Division. The two men were playing a game on who could guess the ages of other women in the bar, Oshita's attempt failed as a trio of women slapped him in the face and left! However Takayama was more successful and probably wished he wasn't, in the second screenshot above he awoke the next morning next to a woman! That top screenshot is of Karou and Oshita talking about the previous night as Takayama didn't even call in sick. Back to him and after Takayama approached the woman in the bar they seemed to hit off well and left together. This woman's name was Yukari, the pair headed to a different nightspot to be alone. ****Almost forgot to add in that Yukari knew Takayama worked for the police as she had seen him in a case earlier in the series. So because of that she and her partner attempted to use Takayama in a crime deal that will be explained.

While at the other bar Yukari deftly slipped some liquid into Takayama's drink, no doubt it was some sort of sleeping potion and he wasn't aware of anything until the following morning. Though he woke up in the same bed as Yukari nothing happened between the two. As Takayama was debating on what to do in walked a young man, his name was Jun and what was his connection to Yukari? That we never officially learned, they were partners in crime but why/how and were they also lovers? In his hand Jun held a small vial, he poured the liquid onto a piece of metal which quickly disintegrated. The liquid was Nitro and Jun has ordered Takayama to follow him for a splash in the face with Nitro wouldn't be a good way to start off the day!!!! The pair, along with Yukari, headed to the Isezaki section of Yokohama where Jun told Takayama to stop and watch him. Jun grabbed a very tall ladder and climbed up about forty feet, at the top was an arch going across the street. Jun attached a much larger container of Nitro there and when he climbed back down he had a couple of demands for Takayama, failure to obey them would mean the Nitro would be released and would blow up everything within thirty meters!!!!

This Jun thinks he's such an intellectual, vastly superior to Takayama and all others who work for the police yet Jun appears to be nothing more than an intern at a hospital. This scene in the Isezaki area of Yokohama took place at it's very busy shopping district, the time had been 9:30 am. Jun has two main demands for Takayama, one is that he's not allowed to report on what's going to with his Minato precinct or POW(!), the Nitro will be released. Jun has a radio device that will drop the Nitro but the device only works if you're in the area. Takayama's main assignment is to locate a thug named Tsuneyama, the deadline for finding him is 9:30 pm or twelve hours from now. If Takayama can obey these two commands everything will be A-OK and the Nitro won't be dropped from it's position. Jun wants Tsuneyama found for he has 30 million yen of Jun's and his partners for a drug deal, the problem is a Yakuza goon has stolen Jun's drugs and the pair of gangsters are setting up their own deal. Naturally Takayama is irate with these condition but he also realized that Jun wasn't fooling around, for now he'll go along with the commands but of course Takayama will have a few tricks up his sleeve.

At this time thought to myself even if Takayama does locate the drugs there's no way he would hand them over to a dealer which of course at the end didn't happen. First order of business for Takayama was to find a thug named Iioka who is close to Tsuneyama and would know where to find him. Didn't take long for Takayama to find out where the creep was hanging out, you have to remember he was doing all of this leg work without his partner Oshita nor had any help from the Minato station. This Iioka was a slippery guy who quickly eluded Takayama at his apartment and soon fled away in a car. With that threat of Nitro hanging over his head Takayama knew he couldn't let this goon escape, how to catch him on foot? For about the fourth time in this series Takayama stole a running motorcycle and gave chase, looked like he would nab this thug Iioka. But the bike he took off on belonged to a member of a motorcycle club who were soon on Takayama's tail. They eventually were able to cut him off and because of that Iioka  successfully escaped. Takayama was madder than I've ever seen up until now, though there were a dozen riders ready to clobber him it was Takayama who did all of the damage, that's the outcome of the fight in an above screenshot!!!!

However things did work out the best for Takayama for he had been noticed chasing Iioka by the Juvenile Division detective Karou. She immediately radioed Oshita with the info and before long Takayama was reunited with his partner, It had to be a short pow-wow though as Takayama didn't want to take a chance of Jun seeing him with the police. Takayama gave him a quick rundown of the situation, Oshita said he would take care of the Nitro. They key event here was that Oshita was able to give Takayama a pistol, if he had his own then there's no way Jun would have been able to do what he's done so far. Oshita brought in a tech from the Minato station who said the mini Nitro platform was controlled by a radio device. The signal could be jammed but the tech also wondered if that would infuriate Jun and would he do some other evil deed(?) so for now it's just a waiting game. Above is Yukari who was watching the Nitro from a coffee shop across the street, she was noticed by the police and Machida was sent to keep tabs on her. Which he did well and and was able to get the phone number of a call Yukari was making. However she noticed Machida's pistol in his holster, she turned the tables on him quickly and pulled out her own gun!

Observing this was Oshita and his team from outside, they played it cool and let her take Machida away. That turned out to be a wise decision, who knew if Jun might not be hanging around and if he noticed the police then perhaps.... BOOM! Machida was brought to Yurika's apartment, shortly after Oshita led his troops in to save the day though it appeared Machida by then had the upper hand. Machida had written down that phone number in a manga book and that was the place where the drug deal would happen though not to the end of the show. Have to add in that Oshita and Takayama's chief Kondo is going ape**** back at the Minato station over the two! Oshita for not telling him what was going on and Takayama for not showing up at all that day though of course had an excellent reason. Meanwhile Takayama has finally caught up to the elusive Tsuneyama, now that Takayama has a pistol he had no problem making this thug open up. Tsuneyama was scheduled to meet the big Yakuza boss Morighuchi at an abandoned warehouse, in every show there's been at least one scene at an abandoned building. In the third to last screenshot above is Moriguchi with some of his henchman, Moriguchi was the person who stole Jun's drugs while Tsuneyama had Jun's 30 million fee for them.

Takayama may have the fighting ability of a boxer and is an ace marksman but he was outnumbered badly at the warehouse. In a short shooting match Takayama held his own for a while but a thug slithered in to his left and shot Takayama in the side! All thought it was just a matter of minutes before Takayama would succumb to the shot and left him to die. Of course that was a huge mistake as though badly hurt Takayama picked up his revolver and left the warehouse, he was moving very slowly but managed to find a pay phone where he called Oshita who zoomed to the scene. The time by now is close to 8:30 pm, in an hour is when Jun will drop the platform of Nitro blowing up everything in a thirty meter radius! Their chief Kondo did provide some help, he found out the location of that call which Yukari had placed and it's where the drug deal was about to happen. That scene is right above and this Yakuza creep Moriguchi pulled a fast one on Tsuneyama, not only did he want his 30 million yen and would still keep the drugs but also wanted to see the thug dead! Which would happened had not Oshita and Takayama been outside their door, Takayama is still badly hurt but even fighting one handed is unbeatable!

That's what these gangsters learned the hard way, no one was seriously hurt in this melee but the most important thing was that Takayama has obtained Jun's five kilos of drugs with only a few minutes to spare. Now off to finish off the deal though as mentioned before there's no way an investigator such as Takayama will hand a criminal any kind of drugs. It was a crowded area, there of course was Jun along with Yukari but also about a dozen of Minato's finest. Said before that a tech from the station could jam the signal preventing that platform of Nitro from dropping to the ground which is what happened, Jun kept pushing his radio device with no success and soon had to admit he was defeated. Not quite the end as a strong gush of wind knocked that container of Nitro off it's perch, if it wasn't for the alert eyes of Oshita above who knows what the outcome would have been! So ends this recap and will have two more of these coming up in a week that will finish off the second season. Then will take a 2-3 week break from this series and think I need it, can't say I'm tired of this drama but after viewing sixteen episodes in such a short amount of time am coming close to that stage.
