Korean drama: "Night Has Come", episode four of twelve recap

Air Dates: December 4th until December 21, 2023 on U+ Mobile TV, aired on Monday to Thursday nights for three weeks and there were a total of twelve episodes that were about 35 minutes in length.
Director: Im Dae-Woong Writer: Kang Min-Ji.... subs by MrHulk

Main Cast: Always need to edit the info at the top as we go along, may set a record for this show with how many changes there will be! One problem could be who to add onto this list? The top few characters should be around for most of the series but besides them who knows what character(s) will be killed off in each show! Below is the chart featuring everyone who was around in the first show, slowly most will be killed off! The basic premise is that this is heavily influenced by the 'Werewolf Game' films and TV series. The setting is the Muryeong Retreat Center where three classes from the Yooil high school would be spending two+ days at. However only one bus arrived which was for class 2-E, what happened to the other students?

Right below is the chart of the characters and many will be killed off, already four through two episodes! The characters in the middle are your more major ones so will have most of them listed below, only a few if any of the side ones. This takeoff from Werewolf is called the 'Mafia Game', more info on the game a bit further down. If you like horror dramas and films this may be right up your alley as the killings have been quite gruesome, after four shows already sixteen have met their fate! **** Have kept updating this section as so many events take place and sure there will be changes right to the end. Though a takeoff of the 'Werewolf Game' franchise this drama is so, so much better than any film or the TV series.

Lee Jae-In as Lee Yoon-Seo.... It seems she will get more screen time than any other character though she does remain a bit of a mystery. Yoon-Seo appears to be a smart student and is best friends with Jung-Won, they're rooming together at the retreat center. Yoon-Seo is a daring young woman but is also easily scared, she has such a huge crush on the next student. Her game position is that of a Citizen. After two episodes she's the only living student who I know what her game designation is. Yoon-Seo does have asthma but it hasn't been a problem yet, since the first show she's seen ghosts and spirits around but no one else has.

Kim Woo-Suk as Kim Joon-Hee.... Class president and seems like a very responsible young man though does try a bit too hard in making sure order is kept among the students. Yoon-Seo above has a crush on him but not sure if Joon-Hee has realized that. But did get the impression in episode one he too has a crush on Yoon-Seo, both are too timid to confess to each other.

Choi Ye-Bin as Oh Jung-Won.... Yoon-Seo's best friend who is a tech whiz and also the number one student in her class at Yooil high school. So far she's been a very conservative young woman who does not like to take chances.

Cha Woo-Min as Go Kyung-Jun.... Every class has their 'toughie' and that's what Kyung-Jun is though really when only surrounded by his two cohorts. That's him in the middle below, to his left are his two 'gang' members Seung-Bin and Jin-Ha. However Kyung-Jun is a smart lad and he's very adept at conniving others.

Jung So-ri as Kim So-Mi.... Pretty and popular girl but can be a bully and has picked on Yoon-Seo on occasion but don't know why. She's the class vice president and is in the middle below.

Hong Min-Ki as Jang Hyun-Ho.... One of the school's best athletes and can't stand the bully Kyung-Jun as he constantly stops him from picking on others. There's a shy girl named Na-Hee who has such a crush on him, he does too but neither can admit and one better hurry for the end is coming soon. Too soon as Hyun-Ho was killed for not voting at the beginning of the fourth episode, was shocked he was killed so soon and he was a Citizen.

Ahn Ji-Ho as Jin Da-Bum.... Seems like a decent guy but him and his best mate Ju-Won are constantly harassed by Kyung-Go and his two cohorts who also make them pay a fee for not beating them up! At the beginning of the second show his best and perhaps only friend Choi was killed even though he was a Mafia person.

There are others and may add in some more in if they survive to the halfway point! Below on the right is the student's teacher Kim who we only saw briefly in the first show. He left the retreat to see what happened to the other two busses and hasn't been heard from since.

Rules for playing the Mafia Game

Like the 'Werewolf Game' there are four kinds of people a player can be. Citizen is your average person and most students will be one. Mafia is a group that can kill the targeted person between midnight and 6:00 am. Doctor is someone that can save a targeted person from the Mafia and don't think there's more than one or two of them. Fourth and last kind of player is Police, they can also prevent a killing but so far not sure how and what their powers are. The vote may not be correct/just as a Citizen could get killed and seeing as how there's more of them it does happen quite often.

The Citizens, Doctors and Police are part of one team, Mafia are by themselves. Whichever side gets wiped out first means they're all dead(!) and the other team wins. There seems to be about thirty students, it hasn't been revealed how many are Citizens, Mafia, etc. There is a boundary surrounding the retreat but it does stretch into the nearby forest, if you go over the boundary you're immediately killed in a gruesome manner and oddly you end up killing yourself! There's no cell phone service to the outside but whoever is running this death game can send the students messages which baffles them, how are they doing that?

List of those who have been killed, will be updating it for each recap

There was one death in the first show but four in episode two! The third show had a trio killed at the end bringing the total amount of living students down to 23. In episode four eight students died in the first ten minutes which brought the total living down to 15 from 31. Seven of the eight deaths were from not voting who was in the Mafia by midnight.

Heo-Yul.... Boy who was a Citizen, died at the end of the first episode as he was voted off the game by his classmates! His death was from jumping through a third story window.

Choi Ju-Won.... Was killed overnight but not discovered until the following morning, it almost appears he may have killed himself in a bathroom stall. The death had to take place between midnight and 6:00 am, the only ones that can kill are those classified as Mafia. Which Jun-Won was so why would his own group kill him the students wondered?

Kim Hyun-Saek and Lee Sang-Hwan.... Both were citizens and killed at the same time in episode two and both had a part in the others death. The two boys had stepped over the boundary line outside of the retreat, that means an instant death. An eerie sound was heard but only by them too, both began to head butt each other brutally before taking their own lives!!!!

Kim Dong-Hyun.... Fourth student killed in the second episode and it happened right at the end. Dong-Hyun was in the nearby forest with many other students, he fell and went over the boundary line. Like the other dead students his eyes became a solid white and he even punctured them with his fingers before rolling into a tree stump which was the final blow.

Lee Soo-Bin, Park Ji-Hoon and Oh Jin-Seok.... All were killed at the end of the third show for not voting, it happened just after midnight. Lee and Park had fallen from the ceiling in the event's hall room, how did they get up there and they weren't noticed missing? Oh had stuck an electrical wire in her mouth which short circuited the electricity, a gruesome way to die but her death seems to have gone unnoticed or at least until the next episode. All three were Citizens.

Kong Ye-Won.... Killed in the fourth show for not voting, the second Mafia person to die.

Lee Hyun-Jun, Park Jung-Eun, Oh Hye-Seung and Kim Yeon-Ju.... All too were slain by not voting and none were major characters as their names had never been mentioned. The four were all Citizens.

Baek Eun-Ha.... Once the students got their phones back Eun-Ha was the person who got the most votes for who they thought was a Mafia person. She wasn't and all of the deaths in this drama have been self inflicted in gruesome manners.

Lee Ju-Young.... Killed overnight by the Mafia, she was a Citizen.

Jang Hyun-Ho.... He too was a Citizen and saved his fourth episode death for last. Hyun-Ho was the first major character killed and it was because he didn't vote. it wasn't possible because the thug Kyung-Jun had kicked his phone under the gym bleachers. Shame he died because he was one of my favorite characters.

Previous recaps
Think it would help out checking the recaps as so much takes place

The below video is from a promo event that took place just before the drama began and features the main characters, will try to have a new one for each recap.

Whew, that above section took a while to update, least the Killed to Date part did. In the first ten minutes EIGHT STUDENTS were killed and if the pace doesn't slow down the entire cast will be gone! That was it though for the killings and for the first time this episode didn't end off with any, But the conclusion had a pair of intense cliffhangers and the details will be at the end. Today has another trio of recaps which means two more are after this and as I said at the end of the previous recap this is turning out to be one of my top dramas from the past 2-3 years, can this frantic pace keep up?

The last show ended with a bang as a trio of students were killed, most because they failed to vote for who they thought was a Mafia person by midnight. All had turned in their phones thinking if there was no vote they would be safe and that was way off the mark. The class president Jun-Hee had come up with the idea and his huge mistake could come back to haunt him. In the final seconds the third student to kill herself was Oh Jin-Seok and she had inserted a live wire into her mouth! Like all of the other deaths it was quite gruesome and by doing that the power in the Muryeong Resort Center's gym went out, we did find out that it was a sham resort in the last recap. So this episode picks up from that point and in the dark the remaining 23 students are frantically looking for their phones, if they don't vote for who is a Mafia person they too will meet the same fate as the three just killed. Hate to say they were killed as it sounds like someone did that, all of the deaths are self inflicted. Save for two of the sixteen killed to date which were presumably done by the Mafia.

Though it was quite dark in the gym after the power outage you'd still think a student could find their own phone but that wasn't to be. The main characters of Yoon-Seo, Jung-Won and Jun-Hee did in that top screenshot but six others couldn't! An announcement would come over the loudspeaker saying someone hadn't voted for who they thought the Mafia person was, a few seconds after that their eyes would roll back into their head and turn a solid white. You can see a few of those deaths above and all six who were chosen to be killed for not voting took their own lives and it's always in a brutal manner. Just got to thinking what is this Spell that gets into the student's mind, is it something supernatural? Bit surprised the remaining students haven't wondered that though there are more important things such as staying alive(!) and perhaps escaping. Everyone who died in this episode is listed in that 'Who Has Been Killed' section above and would recommend reading it. I was very shocked that the best athlete in school Hyun-Ho was among the six killed and was the first major character to die. The thug Kyung-Jun had found his phone and we knew he was going to get revenge on Hyun-Ho sooner or later. He slid the phone under the gym bleachers and Hyun-Ho, along with his wanna-be girlfriend Na-Hee, tried to scoop it out but it was too late as Hyun-Ho didn't vote in time.

As it shows above Hyun-Ho hung himself and that Kyung-Jun is one creep, I'm going to enjoy seeing justice served out to him and sure hope it happens. Hyun-Ho was one of your more likable characters who did keep Kyung-Jun and his mates from bulling others so will miss him. By now everyone alive had their phones back but they still had to vote on who they wanted eliminated or thought was a Mafia person, bit of the same thing. The student who won(lost?) the voting was the girl above in the bottom screenshot Eun-Ha and had mixed opinions about her. She dashed out of the gym and died by banging her head endlessly against a statue though that wasn't shown. Of the seven killed, soon to be eight, seven were Citizens and the other was a Mafia, now two of then are dead. The eighth to bite the bullet was the below girl Lee Ju-Young who had been murdered by the Mafia overnight. Except for Hyun-Ho and to an extent Eun-Ha all of the students killed to date were minor characters so think the pace will be slowing down as Lee's death at the ten minute mark was the final for this show. So sixteen have been killed, two Mafia and fourteen Citizens, know that Yoon-Seo is a Citizen but don't know the identity of anyone else and neither do any of the students.

The class president Jun-Hee was the one who came up with the idea of turning in their phones and not voting. That plan backfired badly but then again what Kyung-Jun had done too didn't help matters but to him least his nemesis Hyun-Ho is out of the way. So many students are looking at the once respected Jun-Hee in a different manner, is he someone they can depend on in the future? So the tensions are running very high among the fifteen remaining students, some don't trust anyone after what's taken place. Those eight who were killed were all brought to the 'resort's' freezer and that is getting jam packed, it's not working so well so will these bodies soon be reeking badly? While there Yoon-Seo did notice something on a wall, when she pressed it a panel opened to a crawl space. More on that near the end and that's her passed out above after finding that discovery. Yoon-Seo has asthma and for the first time since arriving at this building she had an attack but was helped by her best friend Jung-Won. A meeting was set up by the devious Kyung-Jun and all fifteen students were there, why would any of them listen to what this creep had to say?????

We did learn something important before the meeting got into full swing. Which is that the Doctor identity was talked about for the first time, don't know who they are yet and the students don't either. A Doctor can save a student from being killed by a Mafia person who can only do that act between midnight and 6:00 am. One student above said he had been saved from being murdered by a Doctor. Think there's just one Doctor and they have saved one life but the Mafia has still killed at least two. So far we have no clue about the Police, they too can save a life but no student has a clue on what other powers they may have. Kyung-Jun called this meeting to let everyone hear him out, now that Jun-Hee has fallen from grace this thug is trying to become the leader of the other fourteen students. Of course the real goal of Kyung-Jun's is to have everyone follow his orders so that he's the one who will leave this 'death building' alive, about half believed his words but the other half are much more wise and dismissed Kyung-Jun's orders. But they do know he is dangerous, the dependable student Woo-Ram spoke up against Kyung-Jun and that was a mistake as he told the others to vote Woo-Ram as a Mafia and get him eliminated from the game!

Kyung-Jun had told the others Woo-Ram had an intense crush on the now dead Ju-Young but was rebuffed and he had posted some bad words about her on social media. Others in this meeting felt what happened in the past could have led to Ju-Young's death and Kyung-Jun does have an intelligent way of duping people to believe his lies. All against Woo-Ram left the meeting room, seven have already voted to see Woo-Ram dead and one more will seal the deal. Woo-Ram is also an intelligent young man but in a much wiser way. He told the others there's no way they can let Kyung-Jun get his way for they must know what a cruel person he's always been, following him will mean a certain death for all but him! To that the five remaining students agreed on and they along with Woo-Ram voted for Kyung-Jun to be the Mafia person and meet his fate! That made the it seven votes for Woo-Ram, six for Kyung-Jun with two more that need to vote. They are the boy/girlfriend Yu-Jun and Ji-Soo who are holed up in a room. So sure the next episode will begin off with both groups trying to convince them to vote for the right person and have a feeling it won't work out well!

With about two minutes to go Yoon-Seo returned to that crawl space in the freezer mentioned earlier. She brought her best fiend Jung-Won with her along with Na-Hee, she told the pair she would enter the tunnel and with any luck can find a way out. Yoon-Seo began to creep through the passage and hadn't found one exit but did the hard way! Which was because the tunnel caved in and she dropped down to a door outside of a room, one that she had entered in the second episode. Upon entering it again, which is the bottom screenshot above, Yoon-Seo found a panel of computers and cameras that were on, that wasn't the case the first time she visited the room. That ended this show and there are a pair of cliffhangers going onto the fifth episode. One is of what Yoon-Seo has just discovered, there are people at the retreat monitoring them and the second is how will that next Mafia vote turn out? Haven't viewed that episode yet and will soon, the recap for that is the next post.
