Korean drama: "Night Has Come", episode three of twelve recap

Air Dates: December 4th until December 21, 2023 on U+ Mobile TV, aired on Monday to Thursday nights for three weeks and there were a total of twelve episodes that were about 35 minutes in length.
Director: Im Dae-Woong Writer: Kang Min-Ji.... subs by MrHulk

Main Cast: Always need to edit the info at the top as we go along, may set a record for this show with how many changes there will be! One problem could be who to add onto this list? The top few characters should be around for most of the series but besides them who knows what character(s) will be killed off in each show! Below is the chart featuring everyone who was around in the first show, slowly most will be killed off! The basic premise is that this is heavily influenced by the 'Werewolf Game' films and TV series. The setting is the Muryeong Retreat Center where three classes from the Yooil high school would be spending two+ days at. However only one bus arrived which was for class 2-E, what happened to the other students?

Right below is the chart of the characters and many will be killed off, already eight through three episodes! The characters in the middle are your more major ones so will have most of them listed below, only a few if any of the side ones. This takeoff from Werewolf is called the 'Mafia Game', more info on the game a bit further down. If you like horror dramas and films this may be right up your alley as the killings have been quite gruesome. **** Have kept updating this section as so many events take place and sure there will be changes right to the end.

Lee Jae-In as Lee Yoon-Seo.... It seems she will get more screen time than any other character though she does remain a bit of a mystery. Yoon-Seo appears to be a smart student and is best friends with Jung-Won, they're rooming together at the retreat center. Yoon-Seo is a daring young woman but is also easily scared, she has such a huge crush on the next student. Her game position is that of a Citizen. After two episodes she's the only living student who I know what her game designation is. Yoon-Seo does have asthma but it hasn't been a problem yet, since the first show she's seen ghosts and spirits around but no one else has.

Kim Woo-Suk as Kim Joon-Hee.... Class president and seems like a very responsible young man though does try a bit too hard in making sure order is kept among the students. Yoon-Seo above has a crush on him but not sure if Joon-Hee has realized that. But did get the impression in episode one he too has a crush on Yoon-Seo, both are too timid to confess to each other.

Choi Ye-Bin as Oh Jung-Won.... Yoon-Seo's best friend who is a tech whiz and also the number one student in her class at Yooil high school. So far she's been a very conservative young woman who does not like to take chances.

Cha Woo-Min as Go Kyung-Jun.... Every class has their 'toughie' and that's what Kyung-Jun is though really when only surrounded by his two cohorts. That's him in the middle below, to his left are his two 'gang' members Seung-Bin and Jin-Ha.  However Kyung-Jun is a smart lad and he's very adept at conniving others.

Jung So-ri as Kim So-Mi.... Pretty and popular girl but can be a bully and has picked on Yoon-Seo on occasion but don't know why. She's the class vice president and is in the middle below.

Hong Min-Ki as Jang Hyun-Ho.... One of the school's best athletes and can't stand the bully Kyung-Jun as he constantly stops him from picking on others. There's a shy girl named Na-Hee who has such a crush on him, he does too but neither can admit and one better hurry for the end is coming soon....

Ahn Ji-Ho as Jin Da-Bum.... Seems like a decent guy but him and his best mate Ju-Won are constantly harassed by Kyung-Jun and his two cohorts who also make them pay a fee for not beating them up! At the beginning of the second show his best and perhaps only friend Choi was killed even though he was a Mafia person.

There are others and may add in some more in if they survive to the halfway point! Below on the right is the student's teacher Kim who we only saw briefly in the first show. He left the retreat to see what happened to the other two busses and hasn't been heard from since.

Rules for playing the Mafia Game

Like the 'Werewolf Game' there are four kinds of people a player can be. Citizen is your average person and most students will be one. Mafia is a group that can kill the targeted person between midnight and 6:00 am. Doctor is someone that can save a targeted person from the Mafia and don't think there's more than one or two of them. Fourth and last kind of player is Police, they can also prevent a killing but so far not sure how and what their powers are. The vote may not be correct/just as a Citizen could get killed and seeing as how there's more of them it does happen quite often.

The Citizens, Doctors and Police are part of one team, Mafia are by themselves. Whichever side gets wiped out first means they're all dead(!) and the other team wins. There seems to be about thirty students, it hasn't been revealed how many are Citizens, Mafia, etc. There is a boundary surrounding the retreat but it does stretch into the nearby forest, if you go over the boundary you're immediately killed in a gruesome manner and oddly you end up killing yourself! There's no cell phone service to the outside but whoever is running this death game can send the students messages which baffles them, how are they doing that?

List of those who have been killed, will be updating it for each recap

There was one death in the first show but four in episode two! The third show had a trio killed at the end bringing the total amount of living students down to 23.

Heo-Yul.... Boy who was a citizen, died at the end of the first episode as he was voted off the game by his classmates! His death was from jumping through a third story window.

Choi Ju-Won.... Was killed overnight but not discovered until the following morning, it almost appears he may have killed himself in a bathroom stall. The death had to take place between midnight and 6:00 am, the only ones that can kill are those classified as Mafia. Which Jun-Won was so why would his own group kill him the students wondered?

Kim Hyun-Saek and Lee Sang-Hwan.... Both were citizens and killed at the same time in episode two and both had a part in the others death. The two boys had stepped over the boundary line outside of the retreat, that means an instant death. An eerie sound was heard but only by them too, both began to head butt each other brutally before taking their own lives!!!!

Kim Dong-Hyun.... Fourth student killed in the second episode and it happened right at the end. Dong-Hyun was in the nearby forest with many other students, he fell and went over the boundary line. Like the other dead students his eyes became a solid white and he even punctured them with his fingers before rolling into a tree stump which was the final blow.

Lee Soo-Bin, Park Ji-Hoon and Oh Jin-Seok.... All were killed at the end of the third show for not voting, it happened just after midnight. Lee and Park had fallen from the ceiling in the event's hall room, how did they get up there and they weren't noticed missing? Oh had stuck an electrical wire in her mouth which short circuited the electricity, a gruesome way to die but her death seems to have gone unnoticed or at least until the next episode. All three were Citizens.

Behind the scenes video for the third and fourth shows, will try to have a new one for each recap.

Not as much action in the first half of this show but the intensity level was just as high. However the last half was so frantic and it ended with three more deaths, a quarter of the students have already met their fate! At first things were a tad confusing and of course it would be that way because so much was thrown at us viewers. But think I understand just about everything by now, even the students are in a for about some Mafia Game rules. One thing I'm not 100% sure of is how the voting works. By midnight the students have to vote off one of their classmates, is it one who they think is a Mafia person or the person they want to see eliminated by the Mafia? Am thinking the second one though the first one is correct to an extent but with the pace of these killings it may not matter! EDIT: After a bit more thinking the voting is a combo of the two scenarios mentioned, either way a student will die! The last show ended with seven students following the White Boundary line they can't cross and the trail led into a forest mountain. At the end of the show the fifth student was killed who was Dong-Hyun who had slipped over the boundary line and within a minute had killed himself. The students back at the Muryeong Retreat Center hadn't known that until a message was sent to their phones, that death may have been caused by another student and let's get to what took place in this third show. Did update the above section a bit and reading it really does help you follow the action much better.

So that trip into the forest looking for help and any way out proved fruitless, the only thing that took place was a negative with Dong-Hyun dying. But it was discovered that the White Boundary lines did end and the group is trapped at the retreat until the game is over, that can only happen when one side is eliminated! But the remaining group did make it back safely so now that all are trapped what's their next move? For now no one had any plans and the tension among everyone was rapidly increasing, the 26 students may feel they've been there a while yet it's only been a little over 24 hours. The biggest mystery to a few of the students is why are they at this retreat along with who is controlling this Mafia Game and also a few minor things. In the fourth screenshot above the class president Jun-Hee was in the retreat's main office, no employee has been seen since an hour after the group arrived. All of a sudden the phones began to ring and Jun-Hee answered as many as he could but the lines were all dead, what's going on? Soon arriving was the quasi heroine Yoon-Seo along with her best friend Jung-Woo, they also found some oddities in the office.

Such as the phone cords had all been cut, how could the phones possibly ring? Jung-Won had discovered there was no paperwork for the retreat, all the files desk drawers and notebooks were empty. So this is when the trio realized this Muryeong Retreat Center was nothing but a sham and was set up just to keep them trapped! So of course they wondered who would do such an elaborate scheme and why, plus how are things like phones ringing and messages getting sent to their phones? I still wonder about their teacher Kim who left to look for the other two busses, have the feeling he knew what he led the students into and what their fates would be! In the second to last screenshot above is the thug/bully Kyung-Jun, though a lowlife he does have some smarts about him. Him and his two mates endlessly picked on Choi who is now dead and his friend Da-Bum who is right above. He's still getting picked on and knowing he was a smart lad Kyung-Jun knew it would be better if he helped his small group out. Da-Bum was brought to the cafeteria to finally have a meal, in the last show Kyung-Jun had found the keys to it but has kept that a secret. Da-Bum is an avid gamer and Kyung-Jun felt he could help him and his two cohorts find a way to win the Mafia Game and leave the resort alive but that wasn't to be as Da-Bum is as confused as everyone else is.

Being nice to others isn't part of Kyung-Jun's DNA, besides wanting Da-Bum to help him find a way to win the game he also wanted his phone! That is very key in this game and we did learn in this scene that phones somehow know if the owner or someone else is using it. Kyung-Jun was unable to find out what Da-Bum's identity was and we viewers only know that Yoon-Seo is a Citizen, she's the only identity we know of the alive students. Plus Kyung-Jun was unable to vote using a different phone and how can it tell if the owner or someone else is holding it? So using Da-Bum's phone didn't help but least Kyung-Jun knows what you can't do with them, him and his mates were a bit upset at Da-Bum so began to rough him up a bit. That was a huge mistake as the noise led a group of others to the cafeteria, surprised no one to date has mentioned that they're hungry or thirsty. One tough student is the best athlete in class who is Hyun-Ho who has always hated Kyung-Jun. Hyun-Ho gave him the option of letting Da-Bum go, when that didn't happen Hyun-Ho proceeded to give this thug and his two cohorts one licking, you could tell then that Kyung-Jun only had revenge on his mind after that beating and Hyun-Ho better watch his back..

But the students at least now know where the cafeteria is and it's well stocked but don't think many will be staying alive long enough to enjoy the treats! Meanwhile in another room at this 'resort' there was a small group also meeting to discuss how to escape the building or at least how to survive this Mafia Game. Those are the bottom three screenshots above, the girl in the third to last one is the class VP So-Mi. Tensions are rising as everyone is becoming a bit suspicious of each other, So-Mi had wondered why the girl in the second to last screenshot Eun-Ha had said to vote for the first victim Heo-Yul to be eliminated? That drew the attention of the others who began to wonder what are the true intentions of Eun-Ha, she wanted to see a classmate get killed? 'Of course not' she shrieked and to get back at So-Mi Eun-Ha accused her of pushing victim #5 Dong-Hyun over the boundary line on the mountain which led to his death! We did see a brief flashback of what Eun-Ha witnessed and it truly did appear So-Mi pushed the boy to his death! Naturally So-Mi denied the charge but she is a person who cannot be trusted, her and Kyung-Jun would make for a fine team! It's now nighttime and the class president Jun-Hee has gathered everyone in the 'resort's' large hall. By midnight they need to vote for who they think a Mafia person is which means another classmate will be eliminated from the game and is there any way they can group together and stop it?

Jun-Hee suggested no one vote, if there are no votes for any student then there would be no deaths but right then knew he was way off base with his theory, so didn't many of his classmates. But coming to Jun-Hee's aid was surprisingly Kyung-Jun who said he may be right and everyone should put their phones in a huge trash bin. Which all the students did and of course I was a bit leery of Kyung-Jun's 'help', he is such a devious young man. When the hour of midnight came no student was killed nor was there an announcement over the speakers stating the students broke any rules. But two minutes after the Witching Hour all Hell broke loose as an announcement did come from the Mafia Game announcer who has a robotic female voice. It said that any student who does not vote immediately has broken a game rule and will be killed instantly!!!! A few seconds after that a body fell from the ceiling, it was of the student girl Soo-Bin in the middle screenshot above. Right after that another body fell from the ceiling and that was of the boy student Ji-Hoon, he's above too. Both are dead and I did wonder two things, one was how did they get up to the ceiling and the other was that no one had discovered they were missing? One other thing is did they jump or were thrown off by these people running the game?

The announcer spoke again and said both were eliminated for not voting, both were Citizens and if the remaining students don't vote soon they will meet the same fate! So of course right after that there was such a panic in the hall with everyone trying to get their phones back and vote, all were in a frenzy except for Kyung-Jun. For when he was collecting everyone's phones he secretly took his back and did vote so for now he's safe, so aren't his two cronies. With less than a minute to go in the show the lights in the hall went out and that was because of that bottom screenshot above. That's the girl student Jin-Seok who also didn't vote, her eyes rolled back and became a solid white like the first five victims. In a trance she went to the power box and pulled out some live wires and stuck them right into her mouth! That was another gruesome killing as she died instantly and because of that it sent the hall into darkness. That death ended this episode and have to say I am enjoying this drama immensely, though it's only been three episodes so far highly recommend it. Actually four as I viewed the next show as I'm getting hooked and you may do too if you begin this series. But need to take a few days off so the next trio of recaps will be in about five days, that will bring us to the halfway point. Viewing the screenshots above and at the bottom are always helpful as you can see much of what I was talking about.
