Higashino Keigo Mysteries: episode 3 recap
Third episode out of 11 for this summer mystery drama, gonna pick and choose which ones I watch, this episode starring Nao made it a must watch though.
Nao plays Atsuko Tamura who is living in Tokyo while her husband is living in Osaka due to his employment while she stays in Tokyo because of her employment but it really comes out during the show that she didn't move to Osaka is for her intense dislike of the city. One morning Atsuko gets a call telling her that her husband has been stabbed to death at his office and she needs to travel to Osaka because of that. The police who greet her there have very clues on who or why the murder was committed at first though we learn later one of the detectives at that first meeting had her in mind for being the murder. Most of the story that took place in Osaka had Atsuko and the detective Banba with each other, they travel the city looking for clues in her husband's murder, all of them really come up empty but she learns the complany her was heading was facing some financial hardships and her husband took out many loans from loan sharks, could they have been involved in the stabbing. Another reason for the travels through the city was Banba trying to convince Atsuko that Osaka was a nice place and at first he nor us knew why she had such a dislike for the place.
Middle part of the show dragged a bit, one thing that happened was that Atsuko was attacked at her husband's apartment or was she? The description she gave the police fit a suspect and they went on the hunt for him but it turns out one month before her had passed away, she hallucinated this but never really came out why, she also thought she saw him in the street but when Banba chased after him there was no one there, this seemed to make him look at Atsuko even closer as the killer. Well to make this short, though you may think it's a spoiler it really isn't as it was a bit obvious from the beginning who the killer was and it did turn out to be Atsuko. The finale has her confessing on a rooftop that she hated Osaka because she once lived there and her father 's business went under there and she has such bad memories of her time there. The murder it seemed was an accident, she threatened to kill herself when she had met her husband at his office but in the struggle they had he ended up being stabbed, wasn't really a murder then or so it seems but she was charged with the crime thus ending our story.
This was the second episode I've seen, thought the first that starred Rena was a bit better but this was still a fine watch. What made it a tad worse was the middle of the show, really dragged as they travelled through the streets of Osaka, which at least made for a nice change of pace as far as the location went. Beginning and ending were quite good, it was easy to know that Atsuko was the killer but we didn't know why but that all came out at the end which ended up making it a decent watch. Nao was fine as usual, never seen her in a bad role yet, the only other main character in the show was Banba played but Ren Osugi, there's very few things he isn't in, also a reunion for them as he played Nao's father in the Gegege no Nyobo asadora, that's an upcoming review, just so long taking a while to go through. Check out the next post for many screenshots of Nao from this episode.
