POV- A Cursed Film: movie synopsis and review
POV was a low budget, B-movie released earlier this year, despite that it turned put to be a really fine watch, not too much of a horror film despite being directed by Norio Tsuruta but it was quite an effective dark and eerie film. Should be a fairly easy movie to breakdown, simple plot with a small cast with Mirai and Haruna in just about every scene.
Mirai and Haruna both play themselves in this film, Mirai hosts her own show that is streamed over smartphones and her guest for this show was Haruna and they both end up watching videos that viewers submitted, these videos claim to have ghosts and paranormal images in them, Mirai became quite freaked out with these but Haruna seemed to enjoy them, at least at first. To their surprise Haruna regonizes where these videos were shot, from her old middle school, a school that she said was haunted by various ghosts from over the years but watching the videos they really don't know if any of Mirai's audience really ended up sending them in as the videos ended up cursing them, Haruna in particular. A psychic is brought in to cleanse Haruna of the curse but cannot do it, she needs all of them to go to the school where the vidoes were made to completely get rid of the curse. The girls along with their manager and a few of the staff from the show head out to the haunted school but for some reason the psychic could not show up but they decide to enter the school regardless of that, as a matter of fact they were also taping all of this to show on a future show of Mirai's.
Without trying to give away too many spoilers about the film and to keep this somewhat brief, if you've seen any sort of horror film many of the same things happen here that usually happens in horror films though it did work for this film. Much creepiness ensues as spirits appear but we see very few of them, also many strange things begin occuring and of course the lights go out to give it a really dark atmosphere, forgot to mention that they are being led around the school by the principal who doesn't believe at all that her school is haunted. Much chaos ends up happening but all manage to escape from the school where they had been locked in by one of the mysterious forces. The movie sort of ends here as the credits appear to roll but it's actually the credits of the movie they made from their adventure, the girls were not happy at all with that but everyone involved think they have a sure fire hit movie with this. First it's screened before many of the execs and sponsors then Mirai and Haruna enter the theatre for their own special screening. The girls end up watching it but the film being shown is a bit different than what really happened, seeing as how they never did get rid of the curse is now the film cursed? Actually it also seems as when they're watching the film that Haruna gets cursed again as she really begins to freak out and some mysterious spirits end up appearing in the theatre, this is where Mirai jumps into action to be the 'hero', the only way to stop this chaos from happening is to stop the film which at first she can't but finds the main power switch and shuts off the power, film ends just as she's shutting it off so we really never know if her actions really saved the day.
Tried to keep it brief, think it worked, hopefully gave you an okay understanding of the film without too many spoilers. As mentioned it was a low budget B-movie but sometimes those turn out to be fine watches, this movie here was one just like that. Far from a classic but do admit being pleasantly surprised with this film, really enjoyed it and the plot/storyline was somewhat of an original one plus Mirai and Haruna did a really fine job in this. If you're looking for a nice creepy, original and under the radar movie then I would highly recommend this, quite enjoyed it and will be having a rewatch of it again soon, would give this film a solid 8.5/10.
Check the next two posts for many screenshots from the film.

There was another scene after the second set of credits.
ReplyDeleteKnow there was but didn't take screenshots or mention it as you noticed. Been wanting to watch it again so when I do will do a mini post about that screen plus add in many more screenshots from the whole film. Have forgotten about Mirai, think I'll work on a few posts for her if you're a fan.
