"Boderless" drama: Episode five of ten recap

Air Dates: March 7th until May 9, 2021 on dTV/Hikari, Sunday nights at 11:00 pm
Episode are 30-34 minutes in length, subs done by Westillsubbing

Main Cast: There's seven members from the three Sakamichi groups, two each from Hina and Nogi while there's three from Keya(Sakura). There's a new series called "Actress" which began on April 14th and it appears it would help watching this show first as four of the cast make a return and some stories are a continuation from this drama. Everyone does make an appearance in each show but the stories/episodes are centered around two major characters, somehow in the end the stories connect with each other. The first two shows focus on these two gals so will have their names first in the cast list. For now only a little bit is known of the other characters, bio pics are from the drama's dTV site.

Kyoko Saito(Hina) as Kiri Katayama.... You rarely heard Kiri being used so may refer to her as Katayama. But in the third show she said to use her first name so that's what I'll be doing. Kiri is a very odd high school student, she's not shunned by others though prefers to be alone but was intrigued by Nao and the pair hooked up. It appears Kiri wants to be a mystery or crime writer as she's obsessed with the human body and what it takes to kill someone! Kyoko is listed as being seventeen in age but was 23 when this drama was filmed.

Hikaru Morita(Keya) as Nao Mori.... Seventeen year old high school student who thinks her life is just so boring and ordinary. Nao is best friends with Saeko who is her complete opposite and she wonders why would such a popular girl like her? Nao's life soon changed drastically when she met Katayama and will that change be for the worse?

Yui Kobayashi(Keya) as Kotone Ichihara.... Works at her father's cafe and is the older sister of the below character. Kotone is one cheerful and happy go lucky young woman which is the opposite of her sister but not much is known about the pair yet. It was learned in the third episode that Kotone failed twice to get into a musical school, since that happened two years ago she refuses to play the piano.

Seira Hayakawa(Nogi) as Kanon Ichihara.... Younger sister of Kotone and it doesn't appear they get along so well, for now it seems Kanon's dream is to be a rock star. Unlike her sister Kanon has passed an exam to attend a music college which she's kept a secret, she's also been working as a barmaid to save money so she can move to Tokyo,

Risa Watanabe(Keya) as Haru Yatsuji.... Older sister of the below girl, through the first two shows we've just seen the pair in a forest escaping from a crazed killer! It shows Risa's age as twenty but she was 22 when this series was filmed.

Hiyori Hamagishi(Hina) as Kei Yatsiji.... Blind younger sister of the above girl, her injury occurred when she was about five in age due to a car accident.

Sakura Endo(Nogi) as Yuuki Matsumiya.... We didn't meet her until the fifth episode. Yuuki is a seventeen year old who has an unknown disease which prevents her from attending school or really leaving the massive estate she lives in. Though not a key figure in the murder mystery her father is, will add him in to the list if he continues to appear in the episodes.

Other main cast members, will add to it as we go along.

Ayako Konno as Saeko.... Nao's best friend since they were little girls.

Takayuki Hamatsu as Kozo Katsuji.... Father of Haru and Kei, was he killed by a crazed man?

In this fourth episode we finally got a view of this unnamed city where the action is taking place. It's that tiny as you can see and does anyone know what city it is?

Previous recaps

Short promo video for episode five

Quite a different episode as we only saw the two main stars above in the final five seconds! What the pair of Kiri and Nao have been going through is the main story of this series but what took place in this episode seemed to answer a few questions. We didn't see any of the other characters but did view the trailer for the next show and everyone will be featured, Yuuki too?

Sakura as Yuuki was in just about every scene, not sure if we'll be seeing much of her the rest of the way but what took place in this episode is so key to the story and glad a few mysteries were explained a bit. However they may open the door for more puzzles and why that could be the case will be in the recap. Since the opening few minutes of this series the main story has revolved around an unknown person being found murdered at the town pool. That person has remained unnamed and think us viewers just presumed it was a man. That doesn't appear to be the case and this show ends with that murder taking place and we ended up meeting four new characters.

Sakura is playing the character of Yuuki who is about seventeen in age and lives with her parents at a very ritzy mansion. Don't know what Yuuki's illness is but she is homebound and has never attended school, she gets daily injections for her unknown disease. Her father owns the very successful Matsumiya Pharmaceutical company which produces many products. He may be a key figure in the upcoming shows for in the last episode Kiri and Nao discovered a cuff link at the crime scene, does it belong to the victim or the killer?! In that short preview for the next show the pair of girls were escorted to the company where they were going to meet Yuuki's mother Hiroko, that's her above. She is a strict woman who won't allow her daughter to leave the estate's grounds due to her illness, would have to presume Yuuki has been home schooled for she is smart and loves to read.

She often does that on the mansion's terrace that overlooks the main road. Each afternoon at 4:00 pm Yuuki has noticed a very fashionable woman passing by the estate and has become so intrigued by her. One afternoon the woman stopped at the gate and motioned Yuuki to come over and the two hit it off immediately. Noticing the pair was Yuuki's mother who invited this strange yet very refined woman into the mansion, never once was this woman's name mentioned! Didn't find it out until viewing the bonus feature at the end. Maya is this woman's name who claimed she lives in the area and her father is a esteemed politician. Maya has this certain aura about her and the mother Hiroko hit it off well with her too, especially when Maya said she had studied in London and knew all of the museums. Eventually Yuuki showed her new 'friend' the rest of the mansion and they ended up in Yuuki's room. There Maya slightly put the 'moves' on Yuuki, she put lipstick on her for the first time ever and is Yuuki's new 'friend' about to become more than that?!

As Maya was leaving the father Matsumiya arrived at the mansion, he took a glance at this woman and we all knew something was was not right. Which was the case and we'll find why out at the end, after Maya departed the father forbid Yuuki from ever seeing that woman again though it did happen the following day. That sent Matsumiya into a rage and you can see some of that scene right above, he even slapped his daughter hard enough to send her sprawling! That left Yuuki so confused, Maya seems to be such a nice woman and perhaps Yuuki has never had a true friend up until now, why does her father hate her so much? We viewers did have a sneaking suspicion about Maya which was correct but what is her secret? According to the father Matsumiya Maya is a mistress though not just any kind but one that targets high ranking men such as politicians, company presidents and the like. Why the father would know that info will be in the final scene.

Though he didn't show it Matsumiya was quite worried about Maya entering his life. To him it seems she's using Yuuki to get to him and Matsuyima is a man of quick action, that evening he told Yuuki the mansion is up for sale and they're moving to Tokyo.... tomorrow!!!! That naturally stunned Yuuki and don't think she quite understood what her father meant about Maya being a evil mistress. Being her first ever friend Yuuki couldn't just up and leave, after dinner she texted Maya to meet her that evening outside the estate gates. It was difficult for Yuuki to even send that text message for her father had taken away her phone and hidden it. That was found as Yuuki blackmailed her maid Kiyomi to reveal the location of the phone or she would tell her mother about the trysts she's been having with her father!

Haven't viewed the next episode yet so any presumptions I've made or will could be way off base. Yuuki's father was correct on a few things, one is that Maya is such a liar for she doesn't live in the area nor is her father a politician and odds are she didn't live in London. So a final meeting was set up for that night before Yuuki went to live in Tokyo with her parents, the above screenshots are all from the closing scene which lasted for about four minutes. Maya did say she really cared about Yuuki, an excellent acting job or the truth? Do think Maya was partially honest as she probably felt a bit sorry for how Yuuki had to live but that conversation didn't last long for appearing at the mansion's gates was the father Matsumiya. As expected him and Maya knew each other well, many years ago she was his mistress(!) and did so many underhanded deeds for the man. Maya could be a main reason Matsuyima Pharmaceutical has become so successful but after helping him out bringing down other presidents and such he dumped Ruuto in a flash!

Another thing Matsuyima was correct on was that Maya was using Yuuki to get revenge on him, that may not be possible now that the secret is out so Ruuto just may go to the media! There's no way that could happen and quickly Matsuyima took a knife out of his coat, it was a dark and rainy night. He wasted no time in stabbing Maya to death in front of his daughter which is how the episode ended. But in the second to last screenshot is the cuff link he wore which fell off and was later found at the town swimming pool. So a mystery to me is how did it end up near the body of Maya at the pool and is it her body(?), if so did Matsuyima bring her there or one of his associates? Plus did Matsumiya finally figure out that he lost the cuff link and went to the pool to get it, if so would he have also killed Kiri who happened to be there? Lot of questions were answered in this episode though a few new ones did pop up, not having viewed the next show perhaps many will be answered and that's the post below this one. The bottom ten screenshots are from a behind the scenes segment that was after the episode.
