"Boderless" drama: Episode three of ten recap

Air Dates: March 7th until May 9, 2021 on dTV/Hikari, Sunday nights at 11:00 pm
Episode are 30-34 minutes in length, subs done by Westillsubbing

Main Cast: There's seven members from the three Sakamichi groups, two each from Hina and Nogi while there's three from Keya(Sakura). There's a new series called "Actress" which began on April 14th and it appears it would help watching this show first as four of the cast make a return and some stories are a continuation from this drama. Everyone does make an appearance in each show but the stories/episodes are centered around two major characters, somehow in the end the stories connect with each other. The first two shows focus on these two gals so will have their names first in the cast list. For now only a little bit is known of the other characters, bio pics are from the drama's dTV site.

Kyoko Saito(Hina) as Kiri Katayama.... You rarely hear Kiri being used so may refer to her as Katayama. Kiri is a very odd high school student, she's not shunned by others though prefers to be alone but was intrigued by Nao and the pair hooked up. It appears Kiri wants to be a mystery or crime writer as she's obsessed with the human body and what it takes to kill someone! Kyoko is listed as being seventeen in age but was 23 when this drama was filmed.

Hikaru Morita(Keya) as Nao Mori.... Seventeen year old high school student who thinks her life is just so boring and ordinary. Nao is best friends with Saeko who is her complete opposite and she wonders why would such a popular girl like her? Nao's life soon changed drastically when she met Katayama and will that change be for the worse?

Yui Kobayashi(Keya) as Kotone Ichihara.... Works at her father's cafe and is the older sister of the below character. Kotone is one cheerful and happy go lucky young woman which is the opposite of her sister but not much is known about the pair yet. That is until this episode and you can read all about it below.

Seira Hayakawa(Nogi) as Kanon Ichihara.... Younger sister of Kotone and it doesn't appear they get along so well, for now it seems Kanon's dream is to be a rock star.

Risa Watanabe(Keya) as Haru Yatsuji.... Older sister of the below girl, through the first two shows we've just seen the pair in a forest escaping from a crazed killer! It shows Risa's age as twenty but she was 22 when this series was filmed.

Hiyori Hamagishi(Hina) as Kei Yatsiji.... Blind younger sister of the above girl, she became that way at the age of five due to being hit by a car.

Sakura Endo(Nogi) as Yuuki Matsumiya.... Know zero about her to date and unsure if I'll be recapping her solo episodes.

Other main cast members, will add to it as we go along.

Ayako Konno as Saeko.... Nao's best friend since they were little girls.

Takayuki Hamatsu as Kozo Katsuji.... Father of Haru and Kei, was he killed by a crazed man?

Previous recaps

Short promo video for episode three

Still struggling with these recaps but sure I'll get over it soon. Have another pair for today and then the plan is to start zipping through them at a faster pace. Did view the next episode already and the main story with Kyoko and Hikaru is really becoming so interesting, it's actually been that way since the beginning. In the first two recaps Kyoko's character said to refer to her using her last name of Katayama which I had been doing. But towards the end of this show she said to use her first name of Kiri so that's how I'll be referring to her for now on. These episodes are only 30-32 minutes but so much does happen and may have to make these a bit longer. Will follow the same pattern for these two recaps which is starting off with the two minor stories and then talk about the main one, somehow these stories are supposed to intertwine at the end of the series.

Not too much screen time for the pairing of Risa as Haru and Hiyori as her younger sister Kei. This story I think is a fictional one that Kiri has been writing in her novel but we're not 100% positive on that either. The pair of sisters had been roaming in the forest near their home as they had to escape for their father had been tied up by an unknown man one night at home, the sisters managed to flee safely. It seems they've been roaming that forest for about 1 1/2 days, they finally stumbled across a cabin and will things have a happy ending? Not for now it won't as no one was at the cabin plus the phone cord had been cut, the work of the man who tied up the sister's father? The pair finally returned home and it doesn't appear anyone is there. Kei is blind so of course couldn't see what was on their front steps which was a trail of blood and odds are high it belonged to their father! Not much else took place with this story but finally we saw a bit more of the pair who make up the second minor story.

Above the top four screenshots are for that first story, the others are for this second mini tale and so aren't a few below. That's Yui in those four bottom screenshots, she plays the character of Kotone who works at her father's cafe. On the outside Kotone seems to be such a cheerful twenty year old woman but on the inside she's in such turmoil. The reason Kotone is working at her father's place is because twice she failed to get into a musical college, she even went to Tokyo to attend a prep school though that didn't help. Kotone is very talented at the piano but these days refuses to play it as she considers herself to be such a failure and for now has zero plans for the future. Her seventeen year old sister Kanon is also talented musically and think she did get into a top notch school in Tokyo. Kotone discovered that out but Kanon for now won't tell her father about anything, we did learn more about her plans in the next show. Kanon is playing guitar in a rock band and is also secretly working as a barmaid at a club, isn't seventeen too young for that kind of job? The two sisters don't get along so well and think part of the reason is Kanon is so ashamed her older sister failed twice to get into a music college, this is an interesting story but hasn't had enough screen time yet.

Am presuming that second story is taking place in real life but then again it could be part of Kiri's mystery novel, sure things will be explained by the end of the series. In the middle screenshot above is Kiri who had a knife at her throat, that's how the last episode ended!!!! She had been at the town pool doing more investigating of that recent murder, the culprit hasn't been found and the killed man hasn't been identified nor have the police made any progress. Kiri though has been making headway on this crime and seems she would make for a superb detective, she's also doing some research for her novel. While at the pool a strange man arrived looking for something that he had dropped, noticing Kiri he may have had plans to eliminate her! No one knew where Kiri had gone to that night, her mother reported her missing and soon the police arrived at her new friend's house. That's Nao and also in tow with the officer was their teacher Kinoshita, he's about to become an interesting yet slimy man. Nao said she really didn't have a clue where Kiri was though did admit the town pool could be a possibility, she was secretly certain her friend had gone to the pool and shortly after received a call from Kiri.

Who said she was locked up at an apartment, would Nao come to save her? Of course she said Yes and arrived at this place very quickly but didn't find what she was expecting, Kiri wasn't being held prisoner and what exactly was going on? Before Kiri could respond the door to the apartment opened, who should be there but the girl's teacher Kinoshita!!!! A few hours earlier he was the one who saved Kiri at the town pool from the potential killer and brought her to his place. A little more digging from Kiri and Nao brought out some sordid details, such as why had their teacher been at the pool? That's because he was tailing Kiri and this has been going on for a very long time! When Kinoshita was with the police it was to throw himself off their scent that he too may have been at the pool, Kiri found something very disturbing while he was gone. Which was a whole wall(shrine) devoted to her that had close to a hundred photos Kinoshita had taken of her and the shame he must have been feeling! But more importantly Kiri had discovered who was writing those threats in he textbooks, none other than this creep Kinoshita! He was hoping if Kiri became frightened enough she would turn to him for help, no chance of that now! Kinoshita did beg to the two girls for mercy and for now it appears Kiri has accepted his apology, this scene was the last we saw of him as the class soon had a new teacher.

That was one creepy scene which is much better when you view it, screenshots of that are above and also below. Think I made those above paragraphs a bit too long as by now there were only about five minutes to go in the show, thought this recap was going to be much longer. For some reason Kinoshita has become a suspect but in what crime, the murder of that unnamed man? Don't think so and Kiri was brought in for questioning, she said there's no way her teacher could be a killer and just by chance happened to see her enter the town pool. In a way you could say Kinoshita following Kiri was a positive for he may have saved her life! During this meeting with the police Kiri turned the tables on them, she started doing the questioning and is demanding to know what's going on with the murder investigation! Kiri began to tell this detective about her own discoveries and theories, he rolled his eyes at her and said to let them solve the crime.

However the police were having zero success and there was one vital clue that Kiri found and had kept it secret until this episode's final scene. Outside of the pool she had found a cuff link, she didn't report that to the police and was this trinket from the killer or victim? It has a strange insignia on it, she showed her discovery to Nao who also didn't have a clue about the insignia. That ended this episode and much of that discovery gets explained in the next show which was the best one to date, the recap for that is the next post. Every show has a mini behind the scenes segment at the end, the bottom fourteen screenshots are from the segment which feature Yui and Seira.
