"Watashi no Otto wa Reitouko ni Nemutte Iru" drama: Episode six(final) recap

Air Dates: April 10th until May 15, 2021 Friday nights at midnight on TV-Tokyo
Title translates over to My Husband is sleeping in the Freezer.... Subs by Mikilove13

Main Cast: There shouldn't be many changes that need to be done as it's such a short series though perhaps Ryo may have a second name.

Yuika Motokariya as Nana Kisaragi.... Nana is mainly a stay at home worker for an online shop selling imported furniture and other items. But her quiet life is suddenly thrown into turmoil as one night she couldn't take the abusive ways of her future husband Ryo and killed him! But things become much more eerie as he somehow has come back to life though his dead body was still stored in a freezer.

Jin Shirasu as Ryo Sato.... Nana's ex-boyfriend and say ex for she killed him in the beginning of the first show! But he somehow came back to life the following day yet his dead body is still in the freezer Nana stored him in, how is that possible???? But as we learned in this final show Nana's killing of the man was a failure and it wasn't even Ryo she tried to kill.

Yuki Saito as Kujaku.... Middle aged woman who is a mystery writer and lives across the street from Nana. She's also a very prying person who isn't married and claims to have never had a steady boyfriend though in the first show we did see a man come out of her house.

Miyoko Asada as Konome.... Nana's mother who is a psychiatrist and can't stand Ryo.

Sho Aoyagi as Kosuke Karasawa.... Local real estate agent who we met briefly in the second episode and he seems a bit suspicious to me. Even more so as time goes on as he's suddenly gotten to know Ryo fairly well and even hired him to work at his office.

Hajime Okayama as Makoto Akutsu.... Private investigator hired by Nana's mother to dig up info/dirt on Ryo and he's discovered some interesting tidbits.

Been a while since those first three recaps were done, April 29th to be exact so would help to skim through at least the final one to refresh your memory. This is the final of today's three recaps and it was only a six episode series. Slightly odd ending, most questions I mentioned in the last recap were answered but not all. Enough of an intro, let's get to the final show and we ended off with Ryo standing in front on an empty freezer where his dead twin brother's body should have been but wasn't.

Lot of back and forth as far as identities go and hope I keep everything straight. Ryo was looking for the body by orders of his boss Karasawa who is trying to blackmail Nana's mother Konome. That can't happen without a body and he did visit the mother at her psychologist's office, he asked should he also dig up the gory details of what truly happened to Nana's real parents? Shortly after that Konome went to lunch with Nana in what was kind of a boring scene but in the meantime it set up a few other interesting ones. Not positive about what took place at the lunch but had the feeling when Nana departed she was saying a final farewell to her stepmother and how Konome became that will be coming up,

With Nana gone it's given Ryo a chance to search for the body of his twin brother Sou. He knows its not in Nana's house, it couldn't have been transported too far as we saw it's removal in the last recap which left only one location. That's of the body being hidden in their neighbor's Kujaku's residence, just so happened she was dashing off to a party which meant Ryo could really hunt through her entire house. However it's tough to fool Kujaku who is a mystery writer, it was actually her who pulled a fast one on Ryo. Within five minutes she had returned home to find that Ryo had broken in via a window and was searching through her desk, for a key perhaps? Being a mystery writer Kujaku has had to pen many different kinds of plots to her stories, can she try one out on Ryo? In her mind Kujaku has worked out that it's not Ryo who has been living with Nana but instead the other brother Sou, is she correct on her theory?

At the end of episode four and the beginning of the fifth show Ryo had told Nana and Kujaku the entire story of what happened with him and his brother Ryo. Much of it was the truth but what was twisted around obviously were the names as it's actually Sou and not Ryo Nana has been living with, confused yet? In the first episode Nana had thought she killed Ryo but in reality it was actually Sou but then again there was no killing. That's because Nana didn't complete the job and Sou was still living. Viewing that attempted killing was Ryo and he secretly followed Nana to the shed where she hid the body in a freezer. After she departed Ryo went in and opened it to find a still living Sou! While Nana didn't finish her job Ryo was about to as he told the frozen Sou he would take his place and live with Nana. That dream was fleeting as Sou quickly took down his brother and killed him, then he stuffed him in the freezer and who would know the difference.

Have to admit writing the above sounds a tad confusing, it wasn't too much watching the show but then again details weren't crystal clear. Meanwhile Kujaku had her own story to tell and it was the history of Nana. She had grown up in the house she's presently living in, when she was in junior high the household consisted of Nana, her mother and grandfather who soon passed away. After that happened Nana's mother remarried but to a very violent man who who would beat her endlessly. Nana didn't appear to have suffered any beatings but it may have happened sooner than later. One night the father got too out of control and pummeled Nana's mother to death. That was the final straw for Nana who shortly after threw a kettle of scalding water on the stepfather, while he was writhing in pain Nana took a cord and strangled the defenseless man to death. After that deed was done who should enter the house but Konome who ran an orphanage and don't know why she would be there nor how she had known Nana. Shortly after she adopted Nana which answered that question but it was never explained how Kujaku came to know Nana when she was a teen, was she her neighbor then too?

So while Kujaku and Ryo/Sou were exchanging stories and Nana was a lunch with Konome entering Nana's house was Karasawa. He was supposed to meet Ryo who I think forgot all about the meeting. Wondering if Karasawa is also a bit confused on who is who? Karasawa is hell bent on finding proof that Nana has killed Sou(Ryo?) and perhaps also evidence of what happened to her parents. With no Ryo around Karasawa began the hunt on his own, in the living room he (un)luckily tripped over a rug and underneath it was a trap door. A curious Karasawa opened it, staring up at him was the dead body of Ryo! And not just him but two skeletons who were Nana's real mother and stepfather. Karasawa thought he hit the jackpot in his attempt to blackmail Konome but entering the house shortly after was Nana. Karasawa admitted how impressed he was with Nana's killings, wouldn't the two of them make for an unbeatable team? Not so to Nana and you can see her above with a knife, soon Karasawa would be joining the trio in the compartment below the floor.

Four bodies but only two were the victims of Nana's, Karasawa and her stepfather. We're down to the final two minutes and before that what slightly surprised me is that Sou didn't kill or at least threaten Kujaku after he told her the life story of him and his brother Ryo. Perhaps because he did admit to her that he had truly fallen in love with Nana, it was actually Sou who was the more nicer brother. In the final scene Sou had returned from  Kujaku's and found Nana trying on her wedding dress, he asked if Karasawa had ever shown up and Nana gave him a leery smile about that. What I found quite amusing was that Karasawa's phone went off during that chat, Sou had no idea then that his ex-boss was lying dead under the floor. Another slightly amusing thing is now Sou appears to be a bit frightened of Nana as the tables have turned. She told Sou the wedding is still on and she did look radiant in that dress, as the series ended Sou was a bit worried about his fate if he couldn't make Nana happy!

Whew, know going back and forth with the names of Ryo and Sou can sound quite confusing. It wasn't too much viewing the show which I do recommend but still not clear on everything. My only beef was the length of the drama, six episodes that totaled 138 minutes. So events and details had to be crammed in and some questions weren't fully explained or not at all. Would have really helped if each episode was five minutes longer or if there were perhaps two more shows. But all in all I did enjoy this and will be watching it again within the month as I want to perhaps find out the answers to some enigmas which may have been revealed. My final rating for this will be a 8.5/10, that's a solid grade and it would have been close to a nine if the drama had been a bit longer.
