Welcome to this Baka's blog on his fave Japanese Pop Culture interests.
Welcome to my humble site....
Hajimemashite minna san....welcome to my site on my fave Japanese Pop Culture likes such as dramas, movies, magazine scans, promo events etc. Mainly concentrate on my faves...Risa Watanabe... Miku Tanaka... Yui Kobayashi....Ruka Kitano.... Nene Shida....if you're a fan at all of any of them then you've come to the rightplace(!) but many others are featured here besides them. Do mainly quick reviews on things I've watched, try to make the reviews brief, quick to read through with not too many spoilers, just whether they're good or bad and why I thought so plus whether you may find them enjoyable. Many, many screenshots are included from everything I've watched plus any video trailers if they're available. Hope you find something that interests you, don't hesitate to comment, arigato gozaimasu!
There are thousands upon thousands of super duper photos I've posted over the last fifteen years, perhaps more than that! But there's only been four that I've considered to be my number one of all time, I don't change my mind too often with favorite things and is that good or bad? Began this blog in late 2011, from early 2012 until 2014 by top all time photo was one of Chisato Morishita. Then in late 2017 my third fave pic ever belonged to Erina Mano, my fourth all time top photo changed in early 2020 and it's still number one of all time after six years, that belongs to Yui Kobayashi. You may have noticed I skipped what my second favorite photo had been and that's the first one of this post, it was #1 for over three years and is still in my top ten of all time! Naturally I'm talking about Saki π and she's been #1 on at least three other lists of mine such as the first 'Top Twenty Faves of All Time' list done in 2018. Had Saki remained as busy as she had been or C-ute didn't disband Saki would have retained that top spot on the second list done in 2022 but least she remained in the top ten. Sure most may not have agreed with what my top photo was for so long but isn't that first pic of the post mesmerizing to the Nth degree(!), so isn't that second photo!!!!
So did say Saki was number one on a few lists with the most prestigious topping my All Time Faves list back in 2018, of course she was my top J-Pop Idol at the time. Saki was also #1 on the 2016 yearly faves list and the only reason she didn't repeat the following year is that I had a rule once a woman was number one in a year they weren't eligible for any other yearly list, changed that in 2020. Plus there's something else that I hope just isn't my opinion which is that to me Saki could be the most underrated hottest woman I've ever posted about! Who cares if she doesn't have the figure of some gravure model as so few women do, I think she looks so ultra alluring and it's a shame she didn't have any photobooks after the age of twenty. Am writing this up on the evening of February 4th and hope to have it done by the end of the night but of course it's the 5th in Japan and that's the official date of Saki's 32nd birthday.
For the second All Time Faves list done in the Summer of 2022 Saki slid down to the ninth position which was still impressive at the time. Do one of those lists every four years, the third will begin in August and of course Saki will drop down again but not by too many spots and will still be in my fifteen, think there will only be one other from that first list who will make the cut. Wonder if a few others have noticed but I think a huge negative these days is the way J-Pop idols look at their careers, it's too often about fame, money and doing almost anything to become popular. But it wasn't that way over a decade ago, I've watched hundreds if not thousands of hours of C-ute concerts, their monthly DVD magazines and so many of Saki's videos. All five members really seemed to enjoy each other, their careers and had so much fun being Idols, especially Saki. So bet she was the most bummed out member when they disbanded and to this day Saki still seems to be unsure of what she wants to do in the future.
After C-ute disbanded in June 2017 Saki remained busy for quite a while, she was still a Hello Project member and fairly sure she still is to this day. She did release a digital single, hosted a radio show and also a web TV show with an ex-C-ute mate plus appeared in ten stage plays and did a few guest spots on TV dramas. None of those things were big time productions but Saki had remained busy and I was even able to have the occasional post for her. Then in such a shock in 2021 Saki announced she was taking a long hiatus from show biz and was moving to New Zealand, talk about a life change!!!! The move was to learn English, a different culture and to study the environment, she remained in New Zealand for 2 1/2 years. That trip was probably sponsored by Hello Project as Saki had a weekly show of 20+ minutes where she talked about the country, learning English and other things about her huge life change, least now Saki should be able to speak English well(?).
I had watched a few of those shows which totaled 124 and were titled "Study Abroad", that ended in April 2025 and shortly after Saki returned to Japan. She did keep a low profile for a while but is slowly making a comeback, she did hold an event for her fan club in October and and will be having another on February 22nd for her birthday. Saki has been on a few radio and variety shows over the last few months but hasn't been doing anything steady, she may have made much more money than we thought during her C-ute days so is able to take it easy for a while longer. It has to be tough for a 32 year old Idol who has been out of the spotlight for a while and was only semi-popular outside of Hello Project. But I will keep tabs on Saki and if some sort of post can be done for her then that'll make me such a happy human, if worst comes to worst Saki's next post will be in August for whatever position she finishes at on the All Time Faves list.
Talk about time flying, it seems almost impossible that almost nine years has passed since C-ute held their final concert! That was on June 12, 2017 at the Saitama Super Arena and four of the members came from the area. They'll always be my number one J-Pop group and for so many years would view at least one concert DVD a week but I have grown a bit weary with watching the same ones over and over. It is kind of depressing that we'll never see the five together again singing their classic tunes, least they went out on such a high and classy note. Let me try to work on a post for this June and perhaps should make June 12th a (sad)holiday here and have a post for C-ute, sure there's many older things I can find that hadn't been posted before. I have their triple CD "Complete Singles Collection" and your J-Pop album collection isn't complete without it! What I did was to make a pair of CD's that only featured their B-sides and album cuts as all are so terrific! For instance my top C-ute tune could be "Midnight Temptation" which was on the 2011 album "Chou Wonderful", have a concert video after the pics of the tune. Before that is C-ute's final magazine spread as a group and is from the June 2017 edition of Junon, wish it was larger.
Hello Project concerts are the best of any J-Pop group and if I ever have any videos in a post highly recommend viewing them. While we're talking about C-ute how about one more mag spread which is from volume 39 of Big One Girlsbut mainly features Saki Of course we need another video, after the mag spread is from their final single and is titled "To Tomorrow", the video is from their last concert.... what a fabulous show that was yet also extremely sad. On stage all the members dance and sing well but since viewing their first concert my eyes were always glued to Saki,π many think she was Hello Project's best ever dancer plus looked so overly kawaii to me at every show.
Did say Saki's slowly getting back into the swing of things and I really have no clue what she'll be doing in the future. Can't say 32 is an old or young age but is kind of old to begin a new career, even though Saki has been a Hello Project member since 2005 you wouldn't think she'd be too intelligent but the opposite is the case, at concerts Saki was by far the best at talking with the audience as she's so funny and interesting. So guess you could return to college at 32 in age or even better how about Hello Project making Saki a FT employee?! Below are many recent photos from Saki's IG page, a few were from May just before she left New Zealand and I still think she looks so fabulous!!!!
Even though C-ute only had five members bet I've posted more of their cards than any other group, that incudes Nogi who has had about seventy members! Below are many cards for C-ute's June 2017 farewell and most if not all are brand new for here.
Even more C-ute cards which are for Saki's birthday but also threw in a few regular pics, the bottom three are from two years ago.
Had a pair of C-ute mag spreads above, have another set but a solo one of just Saki and it's from the July 2013 issue of Girls. That magazine did feature many of my favorite Idols but don't think they're around these days. While with C-ute Saki did have a good amount of these solo spreads but it's probably been years since her last spread.
That first tremendous picture at the top of the post was from Saki's fourth and final photobook "N20" which came out in February 2014. That was one terrific book and wonder why there were no more after that as C-ute was still around for over three years. There was a superb DVD that came with the book and I've truly watched it over a hundred times! However it's not on YT but there is a promo video for the book and DVD, that's after these pics. Which are screenshots from the DVD and most Hello Project photobooks have these videos, wonder why so few other groups have them?
Will end this post soon, it's such a huge one and want to save a few things for hopefully a pair of future posts. There will be a definite one in August for when Saki makes her third appearance on a All Time Faves list but would love to do another of these in April or May. There will be two more segments, this first features a spread from the April 2013 issue of UTB and it has some outtake pics from Saki's third photobook "Naka-San". The six pics above that are from a February 22, 2013 event for the book which came out two days earlier. These pics had never been posted before and that was because I kept hoping to find more from the event and that never happened.
Saki's first ever solo post was for her "Naka-san" photobook but two weeks ago I deleted it. For I have a much better version of the book plus it had been posted almost a dozen years ago so bet most readers never knew of it and can't blame you for that. This book contains 65 pictures and I don't care what others think as to me Saki has and always will look like a few trillion yen!!!! The video that came with this book is titled "Bloom", it's not on YT and that's a bummer as it's my second favorite Idol video so after this fabulous book have a video from 2021 for Kangol, think it's Saki's last modeling session to date. My favorite Idol video/DVD is from the gal who finished second to Saki on that 2018 'Top Twenty Faves Of All Time' list. The members of C-ute have so many fantastic books but never had a label for them. Just created one for this post and will have all the other posts updated with the new label within the day.
