Have no clue what the ratings were for this series as it aired late night and most times you can't find out those numbers. But it must have done well enough as there was a second season and like this one it ran for just five episodes. After that delay at the end of the first episode the ship Mikumura is finally on the ocean where the students are preparing to find out if they have what it takes working on a ship their future.
Lot of these episodes have a bit of a central theme to them, for this one is was seasickness. Tsubame mentions that in the second screenshot though she's far from being the only one. It's the first day at sea and with only a month on the ship the training had to start immediately. Marin was the first trainee to take the helm of the ship, to her right is the main trainer of the students who is Yokoyama. Not a good first time out for Marin as her excitement got to her and she sent the ship rocking this and that way which sent most of the crew falling.
The Hainan University sent many more students to the ship than Kanto Maritime which is the school Marin and Tsubame attend. There's three Hainan students in their group but we finally got to meet a few others. The main person was a female named Anju who was the 'leader' of the rival group. She's kind of a mean gal and put down Marin's group for having seasickness. Marin was a bit upset at Anju's comments so accepted her challenge, the first group to get sick would have to do cleaning duties and Marin's group was furious at her for accepting the challenge.

None of these groups have an official captain but Marin acted like one in front of Anju, her mates knew there was no way they were going to win the duel. However none of the students were getting close to becoming sick on the ship yet as the weather and sea were calm though that would change. After that confrontation it was back to training and one month on the ship doesn't seem to be enough.
Marin had many hints at helping her friends out from being sick at sea. Her main advice was teaching her mates an old chant which helped sailors out many centuries ago at sea, the males laughed at her but Marin forced Tsubame to learn it. Tsubame did learn it and for her sake it better help as the weather forecast for the night is of a heavy storm approaching. Each episode has one of these bathtub scenes but it's a shame we never see them getting in or out.

It's nighttime and the forecast was correct as a major storm has descended on the ship. Least it was good training for the students as they had to learn quickly what to do in a situation like that and seemed most handled things fairly well. But not for the entire stretch the ship was getting pounded by the storm as the rocking of the ship eventually got to all of the students and mainly the members of Marin's team
Everyone did a good job at first in holding their sickness in but it just couldn't last forever. Soon the bathrooms were filled with puking students and some even let it go in the hallways. Poor Tsubame couldn't last long enough either as the ocean motions finally got to her too and she had to empty her stomach. Seemed everyone on the ship eventually got sick except for Marin and the members of Anju's team which mean that Marin's team lost their bet.

Luckily we never saw the actual vomiting, whoever was on cleaning duty had a very difficult task in front of them. And as mentioned that was Marin's team of six students as she lost the duel to Anju, she was a mean gal but wished we saw more of her. As the rest of her group was recuperating Marin started on the cleaning but guess what was about to befall her?
If you're thinking seasickness you're right as she the sea was still rocking furiously. Don't know how she did it but Marin was able to hold back or at least that was the indication. Lot of cleaning still had to be done though because of all of the other students getting sick, every show Marin's group has to do a lot of cleaning and you wonder how can a ship get so dirty so quickly? That action has brought us to the end of the episode and was able to stretch the recap out well enough as only so much does take place in a 22+ minute show.

Enjoy doing these recaps so much more than the ones for Korean dramas. Will have two more coming up for the 'Missing' series though they may be the final two. Will watch the entire drama but can do five posts like this in the time it takes to write one recap of that show up. So far, so good for this series and while not a masterpiece it's been good enough plus who doesn't enjoy watching Marie and Rena in a drama?
