Yuusha Yoshihiko to Maou no Shiro synopsis and review

Thought I'd give a quickie look at this drama, it was very silly and over the top but it worked as it tirned out to a real fun watch, it's starting a second season this October with the same cast.

The story is set in an ancient time, when the whole country was covered in thick forests. A mysterious plague breaks out, resulting in countless deaths. A pure young man named Yoshihiko becomes chosen as a hero, and he sets out on a journey in order to save a village. He has two goals – to bring back the legendary plant that can cure the plague, and to rescue his father Teruhiko who left to find the plant but never returned....Tokyograph

Mentioned it was quite silly and it was but in a way that somehow worked, didn't expect much going in so it was a nice surprise when it turned out to be an enjoyable show. Yoshikiko starts out alone on his journey to find the cure for the plague that's destroying his village but ends up picking up a strange team during his travels. First he meets Murasaki who really wants to kill him for murdering her father, then the two stumble upon the tough man Danjo before finally meeting up with another strange person, Merebu, who can cast majic spells to some extent but they're fairly lame and different than other kinds of spells but they did get the team out of some dangerous situations on more than one occasion.

They also had a 'guide' for their journey, a man who only appeared in the sky and though he was supposed to be helping them he was always in a way reluctant to give away the info on where they were supposed to head next, this character was named Budda. Along the way our tiny group meets so many other strange people too, ones who want to stop them from their quest but never can stop them, actually it doesn't take much for the team to 'defeat' these quite loony people they meet upon their trek. Eventually they finally arrive at their destination but where they've ended up is in present day Tokyo, they fell so madly in love with the future they forgot all about why they went on their journey in the first place. However Yoshihiko ended up regaining his senses and recruited his team to leave the city and head back to their original time as they now had the cure for the plague, reluctantly they all headed back with him and all was well once again in his village as he returned as a hero.

Short review as this was such an easy series to follow, very repititive as the storyline was really the same in each episode as they always met some evil people that wanted to stop their journey but always to no avail. Also forgot some of the details as it's been many months since I've seen it but learning that a second season will be coming up soon thought I'd do a post before it started and recommend watching the first season if you've been wondering about it. This drama was a very low budget affair and not all that popular during it's run but the DVD of the show ended up being the best selling TV show from last year so word of mouth has given it a big following. Would give this a solid recommendation, good to view shows like this now and again, ones that are over the top, strange, funny... all of which add up to a nice watch, rating for it would be 8/10. Next post has many screenshots of Haruka from the show, she certainly is quite a cute woman and is really funny in this drama.
