Isharyo Bengoshi drama: episode 3 recap

Main Cast:

Naoki Tanaka as lawyer Yukio Hakamada
Akiko Yada as Kanae Kurasawa, aspiring manga artist and divorced in episode 1
Naomi Watanabe as Kurumi Umemoto, private eue
Nami Iwasaki as Rino Shinozuka, college student who works PT at the Tanaka's office
Jun Miho as landlord Toshie Toyama
Nana Yamada as the spaced out waitress Sara Mizutani

Going to look at episode 3 in this post, then two posts down is a brief recap for episode 4. Strange kind of drama as it's a tad boring and there's really zero suspense and action in it but for some reason have found myself enjoying it, too learn a bit about Japan's divorce laws not that I'll ever have to worry about them.

First 3 episodes have been a bit similar as the divorces have involved a husband who was cheating on his wife, difference this time is their ages as both spouses are in their 60's. The husband hasn't physically abused his wife but has emotionally as he treats her just as a servant and has no respect for her at all. Only reason she has stayed with all these years is because of their daughter but she's moved out and is now married, there's no reason for the wife to stay, especially when she's found out that he's cheating on her with a much younger woman. The wife however for their 34 years of marriage has stayed at home and hasn't worked, she has no money of her own to leave but recently to prepare for the divorce has started a flower arrangement class. The husband was furious about this and tried to get her to stop teaching the class but she wouldn't, to get back at her he used his status as a professor to stop all the students from attending but that gave the lawyer Hakamada one more big asset in the divorce case.

The husband had a very talented lawyer but seems no one is in Hakamada's class, he thinks of everything and he did this time around as usual scoring a big victory for the wife. The husband was not going to pay one yen to her even after admitting his guilt in all the accusations but eventually with all the pressure put on him relented and the wife got a huge settlement. Not sure how much the final tally was as it wasn't mentioned but it was in the 30+ million yen range, easily enough for her to live on the rest of her life though she continued to teach her flower arrangement class as the students all returned.
This was easily the simplest episode of the 4 I've watched, not a bad watch but the first two were much better, actually the next episode which is 2 posts down may have been the best of them as a few twists were thrown in. One thing I'd like to see more is having some of the main cast have a bigger role, the guest stars parts seem to be so much bigger. Do have a bunch of screenshots in the next post if I missed anything in this recap, watched it over a week ago so may have forgotten a few things, actually tend to forget what happened in a show within 10 minutes.
