Bit of a slowdown compared to the first four episodes but it's quite difficult sustaining the pace those shows did. The producers did mention that after the fourth episode this series would slow down a bit and become less confusing. Not many new confusing mysteries have been added in but then again very few of the older ones have been answered or cleared up.
At the conclusion of the fourth episode time had stopped in the Webtoon world, that is it stopped for everyone but Kang. Upon seeing a mysterious glowing wall for the second time he chose to step through it, he wasn't positive where he would end up but have a feeling he thought he may end up in Yeon-Joo's world. Which is precisely where he ended up as he appeared on a rainy rooftop in Seoul.
The infrastructures are the exact same between the real and webtoon worlds but that's the only thing similar as the names of all of the buildings are different. Of course all of the people are also different so Kang knew no one outside of Yeon-Joo in this world and had nowhere to go. He wandered the streets for a bit, he was curious about some things she had told him so her stopped into a bookstore.
Few of Kang's questions were answered at the store as he saw a huge display of the "W" manga with a drawing of him on the cover of all 33 volumes. Kang sat there for a few hours and read every edition, for him it was like reading his bio as the stories were exactly what happened to him in the webtoon world. He didn't want to believe Yeon-Joo when she told him about him living in that strange world, now there was no way he couldn't believe her.
That scene gave us another mystery which probably won't be solved for many episodes, if Kang is a webtoon character how is he now living in the real world with a regular human body? With no one to turn to he hunts down Yeon-Joo at her hospital, needless to say she was more than shocked to see Kang, also think she was a bit elated as she has started developing feelings for him. They talked for a bit with Kang explaining everything to Yeon-Joo, unfortunately she had to go back to the hospital but would meet up with Kang in forty minutes.
That was too long for Kang to wait so he went out to investigate the 'new' Seoul, however it appeared as though he did have a mission in mind. That was to find Yeon-Joo's father Oh who was the manga artist who was drawing him, wasn't a long search as he found his residence fairly quick. Oh wasn't there though but Kang went through all of his files and drawings, once again it was like reading his own bio.
Oh eventually did show up at his house to find Kang waiting for him, of course he was shocked too that his webtoon creation was now living. This scene took up the last half hour of the show, it was a solid scene as we did learn quite a bit about Oh and various things about the manga/webtoon. However a half hour is way too long for a scene which kind of slowed things too much, had a good ending to it though it should have been about ten minutes shorter.
Oh told Kang much of his history, most of the book wasn't written about his life but what kind of life he wished he had along with the main character Kang being someone he wanted to but never could be. One surprising thing we learned that Oh had also been on the roof in episode one when Kang had been stabbed, he was there before his daughter had arrived. When Oh saw Kang on the roof badly hurt he tried to finish the job and was about to kill Kang hoping his death would bring the webtoon to an end.
That's when Yeon-Joo arrived on the roof to save Kang, Oh was able to slip away before she noticed him but we have no clue how he managed to return to the real world. The pair kept talking and talking like that with Kang getting more furious with Oh and some of his revelations. One was that Kang's family hadn't been killed, it was added in to the story to make the plot a bit more interesting, Kang now has no idea who he is and if any of his past was real or made up.
During that long conversation between the pair Yeon-Joo was rushing to her father's house as was his assistant Park. Both arrived just a little bit too late to stop the tragedy that occurred. Kang had a gun and had threatened Oh with it but had no intention of using it and instead was about to leave the house. However Oh kept badgering Kang who finally couldn't take it any longer as he pointed the gun at Oh once again but this he pulled the trigger! What happened to Kang and Oh from that shooting is what starts off episode six which you can read about in the next post.
Much slower episode due to that final scene with Kang and Oh as it took up close to half the show, still a solid watch but wish that scene was much shorter. Finally been able to get these recaps down to a reasonable length, let's hope the next post mirrors this one. For you Hyo-Joo fans not enough of her in this episode but we'll see plenty of her in the next episode, really looks striking even in hospital scrubs. Hopefully any details left out you can read about in these screenshots.
