Listed the characters this way for the "Re:Mind" drama and thought it's be a good idea to do it once again. Video at the top is a short promo one for this show. This series still reminds me so much of 'Liar Game' and there aren't many dramas better than that one, lets get to the characters and these are the only main ones that were featured.
Minami Habe as Yumeko Jabami.... transfer student who is addicted to gambling
Aoi Morikawa as Mary Saotome.... The evilist of students who gets severely humbled
Mahiro Takasugi as Ryota Suzui.... wimpy guy who befriends Yumeko
Ruka Matsuda as Itsuki Sumeragi.... Richest student at Hyakkaou Academy
Taishi Nakagawa as Kaeda Manyuda.... Student council member
Natsume Mito as Runa Yomozuki.... Student council member
Kiyo Matsumoto as Nanami Tsubomi....timid student who was once a house pet but won a huge game to get her out dent and that status
Natsumi Okamoto as Yuriko Nishinotoin.... student council gambler
Yuma Yamato as Jun Kiwatari.... school bully
Yurika Nakamura as Sayaka Igarashi.... student council member
Miki Yanagi as Midari Ikishima....
Bit of a strange episode this one was, we hardly saw the show's heroine Yumeko for the first seventeen minutes plus no gambling matches were held. It appears all of the events are leading up to an intense ending which should be a match between Yumeko and the president of the student council who is a person that still has an unknown identity.
Yumeko is still a 'house pet' with an enormous debt but the student council is extremely worried that she could overthrow them. For the first 2/3 of the show Yumeko had slightly disappeared, her close ally Suzui can't locate her and all we saw of her was a flashback that Mary explained to him. Mary and Yumeko were partners in the previous game which could get you out of debt and change your status from a 'house pet' to a regular student. Tsubomi was the big winner in the game with Mary finishing second, now both have zero debt and actually Mary now has a profit of 250 million yen.
In an act of 'friendship' Mary had given the 250 million to Yumeko to whittle her debt down to a somewhat manageable 60 million yen. But for some reason Yumeko left the box of cash in her classroom, as Sayaka says in the top screenshot Yumeko isn't all that interested in money, it's the thrill of gambling that motivates her. We do learn a few facts from Sayaka regarding Yumeko's secret background. Her parents are both deceased and up until enrolling in school she had lived with her older sister who had been sick and in and out of a hospital.
The rumor is circulating around school quickly that Yumeko is in hiding as she is waiting for a gambling showdown with the student council president. One character we haven't seen too much of until now was the council member Manyuda who appears to be second in command. Almost all of the student council members have been a mystery throughout the first seven episodes, such as who are they exactly and how did they end up in their prestigious positions. Manyuda is hoping the president will face off against Yumeko, he feels she would win the match and if that happened he'd become the new president.
That bottom student is another character we've only seen briefly up until this episode and it's Midari who has to wear a patch over her left eye. Don't know when it occurred but Midari had racked up a huge debt to the council and was unable to pay them back. When confronted by the president Midari told her she was unable to repay the massive debt and what would she want in return. The president didn't utter a word but instead used some unknown instrument to take Midari's left eye out! Since that incident she's been living in an unlocked cage in the student council chamber waiting for the day she could get her revenge and she really wants a showdown with Yumeko.
A person we haven't seen for a few episodes was Itsuki, she's played by Ruka who will have another solo post coming up once these recaps are finished. She's the richest student in school and had lost a match of 'Double Concentration' to Yumeko in the third episode. She also wants to see a match between her and the council president, Itsuki will even back Yumeko financially in the game. She had told that to Mary who also didn't know how to locate Yumeko but by this time the show is about 2/3 done and we get our first live appearance of Yumeko as she runs into Suzui in a crowded hallway.
But they never managed to hook up as out of nowhere a member of the Beautification Committee sprang out and slapped some handcuffs on Yumeko. Who and what the committee are is a mystery as we had never seen or heard of them until now. When Suzui tries to jump to her rescue another member of the committee popped out and manged to subdue him easily. The unknown character meanwhile leads Yumeko to a dark room where she is kept imprisoned.
In the room was also Midari, before this scene we had seen her practicing Russian Roulette(!) and is that the game she wants to play with Yumeko? Midari's mind no longer seems to be there since her eye was pulled out, she's hell bent on any form of revenge and like Yumeko also has a debt of 300 million yen. Midari spots Yumeko handcuffed in the dark room and approached her babbling some inane things, it appears the two will have a gambling match though not sure if it'll ever take place.
That's because some student council members have been trying to contact the president who Yumeko wants to gamble against so badly. Here we are at the end of the eighth episode and we still don't know the true identity of the president. However we have seen a few silhouetted scenes with the president who happens to have hair exactly like Mary does. For some reason wouldn't be surprised if she happened to be the president and as the show ended she did show up at the council chambers.
Bit of an odd episode, not all that much really took place but things are being set up for the final two shows which should or hopefully have Yumeko face off against the president. Previous post had mentioned that the next drama to be recapped would be the "Dai Renai" series which just began. Will be recapping that show but may first do a Korean drama called "Mischievous Detectives". Do enjoy Korean dramas more and there are two seasons from the mini drama which total about three hours for each season.
