Start Date: January 14/16 as it aired on both the MBS and TBS networks
Theme song: "Strawberry Feels" by BIGMAMA Director: Tsutomu Hanabusa
Listed the characters this way for the "Re:Mind" drama and thought it's be a good idea to do it once again. Video at the top is a short promo one for this show. This series still reminds me so much of 'Liar Game' and there aren't many dramas better than that one, lets get to the characters and think these are the only ones that will be featured.
Minami Habe as Yumeko Jabami.... transfer student who is addicted to gambling
Aoi Morikawa as Mary Saotome.... The evilist of students who gets severely humbled
Mahiro Takasugi as Ryota Suzui.... wimpy guy who befriends Yumeko
Ruka Matsuda as Itsuki Sumeragi.... Richest student at Hyakkaou Academy
Taishi Nakagawa as Kaeda Manyuda.... Student council member
Natsume Mito as Runa Yomozuki.... Student council member
Kiyo Matsumoto as Nanami Tsubomi.... Former house pet who won a huge match to get herself out of debt
Natsumi Okamoto as Yuriko Nishinotoin.... student council gambler
Yuma Yamato as Jun Kiwatari.... school bully
Yurika Nakamura as Sayaka Igarashi.... student council member
Miki Yanagi as Midari Ikishima.... house pet who took out her own left eye
Down to the final two episodes and the ending was something that I thought would be different. Yumeko never did end up playing the student council president in an intense showdown but as far as intensity goes these last two shows provided plenty of it.
We left off the previous show with Yumeko handcuffed by members of the Beautification Committee and we never did learn anything about this club except for the fact there's three members led by Midari. She doesn't have a left eye and thought it had been pulled out by the council president as a way to pay off Midari's 300 million yen debt but learned the real truth in the final episode. To get to the president Midari tells Yumeko first she has to go through her and beat her in a match, the game proposed is called 'ESP Game' and Yumeko readily agrees to play her.
Easy enough game to play as far as the rules go. There are five cards, three sets of similar ones and the object is to match your order of cards as the dealer laid theirs. The game will go for three rounds which means there shouldn't be a tie but as we all know Yumeko will have a trick up her sleeve. She'll play if Suzui is the dealer which Midari agrees to, Yumeko also wants the condition that the winner will receive.... one billion yen!!!!
Midari also accepts that condition but she has one of her own which could prove deadly. She has a pair of pistols(!), the winner of a match gets to fire the gun at the losing opponent. A player can load anywhere from zero to six bullets in the gun, then they get put in a box so when you pull one out a player doesn't know if it's one they loaded with two bullets or whatever amount they loaded. If a player loses a round by say two cards then her opponent can shoot twice at the person so obviously loading all six bullets can mean instant death.
Suzui is the dealer who is off in a booth guarded by two members of the committee. Yumeko had asked for him to be the dealer but it's not something that she can take advantage of but wanted to make Midari think that they have signs going on between them. As we'll see in the final recap there were no signs but Midari did have some trickery of her own set up.
It's time for the first grudge match, it's a game where it could end up with only one hand being played if the other player gets shot! The five cards are dealt by Suzui with Yumeko and Midari laying their cards on the table in hopefully the right order as his. Seems Yumeko always loses the first hand of a game and this one was no different as she lost by one card. That means Midari can now take one shot with the gun at Yumeko, did she pick her own that had six bullets or the one that Yumeko loaded with an unknown amount?
As you can see Midari didn't hesitate at all with pointing the pistol at Yumeko who also had a trick of her own. She told Midari that the gun was hers and that she had loaded three bullets. But also she had jammed the barrel with lipstick, so much that if she pulled the trigger and there was a bullet in the chamber her hand would get blown off. Midari wavered for a few seconds when she heard those words but that didn't stop her in the end as she pulled the trigger and then.... nothing!
Nothing as Yumeko lied about everything and had loaded the gun with no bullets, she also confessed that there is no way lipstick could stop a bullet from coming out of the barrel. Midari actually had a good laugh at being fooled but there are two more rounds to go. How they go won't be known until the next episode as these games do get a bit dragged out in 'Liar Game' style and you can read all about the conclusion in the next recap.
Much prefer the late night dramas the past few years versus the prime time shows as to me they're so much more intense and interesting. Need to find a few more of them but think I've viewed most of the better ones already though will keep my eyes open for some or perhaps there's a few that are currently airing. Also much prefer writing up shorter recaps like these have turned out to be and sure most enjoy reading shorter posts too. Next post has the final episode of this ten show series.
