"Mr. Nietzsche in the Convenience Store" drama: Episode six recap

Air Dates: January 21st to March 23, 2016 on YTV, Thursdays at 1:29 pm
Each episode is about 23 minutes in length

Main Cast: Name of the convenience store is the Three Seven Temple Street Store.

Shotaro Mamiya as Tomoharu Nii.... new worker at the store who works overnight and by day is studying Buddhism, is a very stoic twenty something man

Kenji Urai as Matsukoma..... after being out of work for two years found a job at the store six months prior, works with Nii on the overnight shift

Rena Matsui as Kaede Shioyama.... is a nurse whose shift gets done after midnight so stops by the store every night, fell in love with Nii at first sight and grew up with Matsukoma

Jiro as Watari.... oldest clerk at the store and has the nickname of 'Lottery Senpai' as he often plays lottery games to get rich quick which has never panned out

Jiro Sato as Manager.... only goes by Manager and is quite the goofball

Rio Uchida as Moe Tatsuzaki.... clerk at the store, still haven't met her

Ryo Matsuda as Takeshi Shibata..... clerk at the store, first met in episode three

Ryo Matsuda as Takeshi Shibata.... finally met in episode five and he's a new worker at the store, he appeared to come from a very wealthy family

Am feeling a bit lazy and didn't want to view the next episode yet so though I said in the above post there would be a trio of recaps today will just have the two. There's no ongoing storyline for the most part save for Kaede's infatuation with Nii so it doesn't matter as much if you just read the recaps in any order or only a few of them.

Did mention in the above post I wished there was more interaction between the clerks and customers. Well there was a bit to begin this show off as Nii seems to have an ongoing competition going with one and it's playing the game of Go. But they don't play it in a normal style as you can see above as the customer brings in coins with him and the pair end up having a match right at the register. Intense matches they are too and it appears Nii is a master at the game as he handily beat the customer who walked away dejected.
Also above is the new clerk Shibata who they've also nicknamed Shibaken. The staff were under the impression that Shibata's family was quite wealthy as it's his first job ever plus he gets picked up at the store in a Rolls Royce. He revealed to his co-workers that in reality his family is quite poor, it's just him and his father as Shibata's mother passed away and he felt it was because of their poverty. His father owns a used car lot which is why he has the Rolls Royce, however his father only buys the most expensive used cars which has put the family into debt. Also Shibata's father in such an inept salesman and can never sell any of those ultra expensive vehicles. He fits in well then as both Watari and Matsukoma are always strapped for funds though Watari does have another scheme planned.
He's known as 'Lottery Senpai' as Watari loves to play the game hoping to strike it rich which of course has never happened nor will but perhaps the series will end off with him hitting it big. Watari also has come up with many schemes to hit a big payday, they too have been failures but he had another one for this show. Now Watari will be known as 'The Lost Pet Detective' as his new angle is to hunt down stolen or lost pets. Of course there's plenty of them in Japan and if he can just begin locating them the cash will be flowing in. That'll never happen and like most of Watari's grand ideas it never gets off the launching pad, mainly thanks again to Nii who burst his bubble with all the reasons the project is doomed to failure. A Monk is supposed to be a supportive and inspiring man, Nii is the complete opposite and we've never learned why he's training to become a Monk.

Once again was disappointed with how little screen time Kaede received as she's the best part of the show. Her one scene only lasted about a minute, she had been waiting inside the store's huge dumpster for Nii to throw away the trash, before he arrived a policeman did who thought Kaede was quite strange hiding where she was. Not believing a word from her the officer dragged her away and that was the only time we saw her this show.
There was only four scenes in this show and the final one lasted quite a long time. The previous episode also ended off with a long scene which was quite funny and odd, this time around it wasn't quite as good. The clerks had found Manager sleeping in the freezer, his face was beginning to turn blue so they carried him out to safety. Manager can somehow fall asleep anywhere and at anytime, think it's his one major talent if you can call that a talent. His staff brought Manager out in the nick of time and now it was just a matter of waiting for him to 'thaw' out. But before he was fully recovered who should arrive on the scene but his wife and didn't even know he was married.
She finally was able to revive her husband and made him apologize to his crew for worrying them so much. Her name is Mitsuko and she also made him get on his knees to apologize for every fault of his and believe me when I say Manager has many. As odd as Manager is his wife Mitsuko may be even more off the wall. She can ramble off a thousand useless words in a minute which she proceeded to do, we did learn she's from Okinawa so I guess that's where Manager hails from too. She went on and on with her daffiness which may have been a funny scene if it was a tad shorter, you can see a lot of her speech in the screenshots and that scene brought us to the end of this episode.

Wasn't really lazy as I mentioned at the top, for a change have a few posts to do today and want to get to them. All six shows have been winners though this one wasn't quite as interesting as the previous five episodes. The scenes are getting a bit longer as there was only four of them in this show which lasts fro about 22 minutes. Four more episodes to go, will have another pair of recaps coming up within the week.
