"Watashi no Otto wa Reitouko ni Nemutte Iru" drama: Episode five recap

Air Dates: April 10th until May 15, 2021 Friday nights at midnight on TV-Tokyo
Title translates over to My Husband is sleeping in the Freezer.... Subs by Mikilove13

Main Cast: There shouldn't be many changes that need to be done as it's such a short series though perhaps Ryo may have a second name.

Yuika Motokariya as Nana Kisaragi.... Nana is mainly a stay at home worker for an online shop selling imported furniture and other items. But her quiet life is suddenly thrown into turmoil as one night she couldn't take the abusive ways of her future husband Ryo and killed him! But things become much more eerie as he somehow has come back to life though his dead body was still stored in a freezer.

Jin Shirasu as Ryo Sato.... Nana's ex-boyfriend and say ex for she killed him in the beginning of the first show! But he somehow came back to life the following day yet his dead body is still in the freezer Nana stored him in, how is that possible???? All that will be explained in the final recap as is Ryo even his real name?

Yuki Saito as Kujaku.... Middle aged woman who is a mystery writer and lives across the street from Nana. She's also a very prying person who isn't married and claims to have never had a steady boyfriend though in the first show we did see a man come out of her house.

Miyoko Asada as Konome.... Nana's mother who is a psychiatrist and can't stand Ryo.

Sho Aoyagi as Kosuke Karasawa.... Local real estate agent who we met briefly in the second episode and he seems a bit suspicious to me. Even more so as time goes on as he's suddenly gotten to know Ryo fairly well and even hired him to work at his office.

Hajime Okayama as Makoto Akutsu.... Private investigator hired by Nana's mother to dig up info/dirt on Ryo and he's discovered some interesting tidbits.

Been a while since those first three recaps were done, April 29th to be exact so would help to skim through at least the final one to refresh your memory. For today have the final three recaps and it's only a six episode series. Am writing this up before watching the final show, actually it hasn't aired yet. You've hopefully read the above recap so no sense talking about it, let's jump into the action. Actually before that want to say I'm so glad Yuika has the lead role in this show. She's been such a fave of mine for so long but had kind of forgotten about her, that will no longer happen. She has had two recent posts which have both been extremely popular, should(hope to) have another one in June.

Previous recap ended with Ryo explaining his entire story to Nana and Kujaku. It's true he and his brother Sou were planning on swindling Nana's house away from her but that became a thing of the past when Ryo truly fell in love with her. He couldn't stop his brother's abusive ways towards Nana as Ryo had been in a hospital with a coma, he pleaded to Nana to believe him. There was no answer given and am really curious what Nana's response would have been, leaning towards her saying she needed more time to think about it. No answer was given for as Nana was thinking rushing in via the patio door was a figure who lunged at Ryo and stabbed him!!!! That's the third screenshot above and of people it was Nana's mother. The private investigator Akutsu was right about there being a Sou person but had mistakenly said that man was now going by the name of Ryo. Nana's mother Konome was so worried about her daughter that she rushed right over to save her from the presumed devil.

But of course Konome was wrong about the identity and so wasn't Akutsu, he was half right with discovering the man Sou. But you may be wondering about Ryo and how he was faring after the stabbing. He wasn't hurt all that badly, a doctor friend of Kujaku's patched him up and the wound didn't hit any vital organs, Ryu will be up and about in a while though will still be hurting for a bit. That bottom screenshot above is Nana showing her mother where the real Sou was, dead in her freezer! Nana told Konome the whole story of her killing the abusive man which the mother understood all too well. In an odd scene we saw the two drag the stiff body from the shed and across the lawn, where did they bring it to? The following day Ryo did arise and Konome went to apologize but not in a sincere way. Was kind of wondering if she wasn't more sorry for not killing Ryo?!

Nana's mother Konome had a big impact in this episode and quite a bit of screen time. After speaking with Ryo she went to visit their neighbor Kujaku, these two have known each other for years but what is this big rift they have between them? During that chat Kujaku told Konome she had first met Nana when she was fourteen and in junior high.. Konome knew nothing about that and was curious about what kind of bond the two shared? Konome then returned to her doctor's office where she had another mini meeting with the investigator Akutsu. She thought perhaps he should drop the case which didn't officially happen but even if Konome fired Akutsu think he would have still been on Ryo's tail.

A very key bit of info was revealed by Akutsu during that meeting. He had ben showing pictures to people who had known both Ryo and his now dead twin brother Sou. Most of the people have been saying that the current picture of Ryo is actually Sou and vice versa, another mystery arises as who is who?  There's our couple right above and it appears the marriage will still be taking place. Even if Ryo was telling the truth which he probably isn't find it surprising Nana would still want to get married, don't think she's been totally convinced Ryo is as innocent as he's making himself out to be.  We're soon going to find out Nana may be 100% correct on those feelings.

Final segment, wish all recaps could be this brief but guess that's impossible for shows 46-60 minutes in length, this one is just 23 minutes long. After that trip to the beach the pair returned home but not that long for Ryo as he said his new boss Karasawa needed him meet him at work. That's partially right as the work wasn't about the goings on in the real estate office but for Karasawa to talk with Ryo about his swindling of Nana. Not totally sure but kind of positive this man Karasawa may be the mastermind behind the organization, have had my suspicions about him since the first second. He laid a couple of bombshells on Ryo and us viewers that will lead into the final episode. When Nana was in her teens both of her parents had died, was she responsible for their deaths?

Also that Konome isn't Nana's real mother, if that's true who is she exactly and how did she become her 'mother'? Shortly after the brief meeting Karasawa arrived at Konome's office for another meeting though he was there for just two minutes. Long enough to throw some fear in her life as Karasawa told her he knew all about Sou's murder! Next time he'll bring evidence of it, if she refuses to cooperate with his demands he'll be heading to the police. But as the show ended Ryo went to the shed for the evidence, he was going to take photos of his brother's body in the freezer. But as you can see above the body(!) was gone, that's because Nana and Konome dragged it away but to where?

Suspenseful ending and I'm wondering if everything can be wrapped up well in a 23 minute episode. Haven't viewed that yet as it doesn't air for another two days, just a small beef but thinking this series would have worked out better with shows that were five minutes longer or if there had been two more episodes. So as we go into the final episode here's some enigmas that need to be answered though there's many other minor ones.

** Could Nana have possibly killed her parents when she was fourteen? If so did she have help from the novelist Kujaku doing the evil act?

** Who is who?! Talking about Ryo and could be possibly be his twin brother Sou? If not was he perhaps the evil twin and Sou was the nice person that Nana had met six months prior?
