"Taxi Driver" Korean drama season one: Episode eleven recap

Air Dates: April 9th until May 29, 2021 on SBS-TV, Saturday and Sundays at 10:00 pm
Director: Park Joon-Woo... Subs done by Sally G... This episode's rating: 12.7%

Main Cast: Bit of a large cast plus there's many guest stars whose roles are big but the episodes are an hour or longer. The setting is the Rainbow Taxi company which is a legit operation and is run by an older man named Jang. For now it seems 100% of the drivers are just your regular cabbies but there is one driver who goes beyond the call of duty and will be the first character you'll read about below. His name is Kim Do-Gi, usually in recaps use the last name for males and first names for females which I hope makes things easier. However will be referring to him as Do-Gi, there's a woman that I'll be using her last name who is Baek.

A second season began on February 17th of this year, hopefully can recap most of the episodes before that season ends and may do posts for that also. Almost all of my drama recaps for the past year have been for shows with the episodes being between 25-45 minutes and have been doing a good job at keeping them brief yet also not leaving any details out. So these recaps will definitely be longer but so much takes place in this show and will already give this series a very high recommendation. As it says in this screenshot this drama is about revenge and we need more in that vein!

Lee Je-Hoon as Kim Do-Gi.... This is a man who can do it all, if I described everything we'd be here for days! Do-Gi is the most unbeatable fighter I've seen to date in a drama, he had once been an elite member of the Special Forces division of Korea's military. Four years ago his mother was slain by a crazed killer who later committed suicide in prison which meant Do-Gi couldn't avenge his mother's death. He soon met the man below and above who is Jang and the owner the Rainbow Taxi, he told Do-Gi if he wants revenge to join his company. Which is a legit taxi service though Do-Gi also specializes in helping others getting back at those cruel people who have made their lives a living hell! Could add more in but that's enough for now....

Kim Eui-Sung as Jang Sung-Chul..... Owner of Rainbow Taxi and that's him two screenshots above. Jang's parents were murdered twenty years ago and since then has sworn to avenge the victims of brutal crimes or who have been mistreated so badly. There's five members at the taxi company who do work on helping others get revenge but after two shows unsure if that number just may be a bit higher. Jang also runs an organization called Blue Bird which helps victims of crimes.

Esom as Kang Ha-Na.... The exact name as one of my all time fave Korean actresses! She's a prosecutor for the Seoul Northern District and was hell bent on finding what happened to a goon named Cho who disappeared after being released early from prison. But Ha-Na's supervisor told her to lay off the case and has assigned her to work with Jang, besides owning the taxi company he also has an organization helping victims of crime. Since the second show Ha-Na has been a bit leery of how the company operates, are they mixed up in some illegal activities?

Pyo Ye-Jin as Ahn Go-Eun....  I need to do some regular posts for her! Go-Eun is an elite hacker and tech expert who works at Rainbow Taxi and is one of five people there who work on the unknown 'revenge squad'. Go-Eun's sister committed suicide a few years back, Jung-Sun was her sister's name and her story is in the seventh and eighth recaps.

Jang Hyuk-Jin as Choi Kyung-Goo.... The head mechanic at Rainbow Taxi, Choi and his assistant Park also work for the 'revenge squad'. Along with the above Go-Eun him and Park also work off site doing surveillance work and other duties.

Bae Yoo-Ram as Park Jin-Eon.... Bae and Park are a also comedy team and I've seen them paired up often in dramas. Park's younger brother was married to Choi's younger sister but both were killed in an apartment fire set  by an arsonist.

Cha Ji-Yeon as Baek Sung-Mi.... A very mysterious middle aged lady who owns the Nakwon Company. When Jang has to stash one of the people who they've taken revenge on he brings them to Baek who charges some very high fees. She also owns a shady night club and appears to even run a call girl ring, we learn more about Baek in every episode..... but then again that adds to her mystery! **** Perhaps being a mystery was better for starting with the tenth show the more we learn about Baek the more we learn how cunning and ruthless she is!!!!

Lee Ho-Cheol as Goo Seok-Tae.... Baek's ruthless main bodyguard and though has been in every show just added him in for this eleventh episode. Main reason was his name wasn't revealed for so long and check the guest star list as his name will be there too.

Yoo Seung-Mok as Cho Jin-Woo.... The Deputy Chief Prosecutor for the Seoul Northern District office. Cho is Ha-Na's supervisor and he's also good friends with Jang.

Lee Yoo-Joon as Wang Min-Ho.... Ha-Na's assistant at the prosecutor's office.

Guest Star for the first nine episodes .... Have kept this first name here as he did make minor appearances and his storyline did become semi-major until his death.

Cho Hyun-Woo as Cho Do-Chul.... A sexual offender who was sentenced to life in prison but was released after only eight years to public outrage.  He was picked up at court by none other than our hero Do-Gi who brought this sicko to first Jang then to Baek's 'prison'. Ha-Na is on the case to find out what's happened to Cho with no success.... yet. Cho had still been alive and kicking as in the sixth episode he was able to escape from the dungeon. But he was recaptured by Baek's bodyguards after he stabbed Jang and was killed at the end of the ninth show.

Guest stars for the eleventh through fourteenth episodes

Lee Ho-Cheol as Gu Young-Tae.... As you can see Lee plays two characters in these four shows.  He's playing a set of twin brothers, Seok-Tae is Baek's bodyguard while Young-Tae is a junior director at her Nakwom company. Both brothers are brutal but especially Young-Tae and who knows how many he's killed to date?!!!!

The twin brothers, on the left is Young-Tae and on the right is Seok-Tae.

Han Kyu-Won as Go Dong-Hee... We won't see much of him save for flashbacks but he worked as a salesman for a construction company. His disappearance was what opened this new case and all fingers are pointing towards Young-Tae who is presumed to have killed Go. The main reason is Go was engaged to the below woman who Young-Tae had eyes for.

Han -Hyun-Ah as Lee Hye-Yeon.... As mentioned she was engaged to Go and really did love him but if Young-Tae can't have her no man can!

Lee Yoon-He was Pastor Go.... The father of Go Dong-Hee, and turned down Jang's offer of getting revenge for his son's disappearance/death.

Jung Kang-Hee as Sim Woo-Sub.... An associate of Young-Tae but that man really abuses Sim endlessly. Sim owns the HM company which is really just a 'paper organization' that will be explained in the twelfth recap.

Previous recaps .... most cases are for two episodes but the fifth through eighth episodes were for one very long and intense revenge case. There's a second four episode story which ran from the eleventh to fourteenth episode.

Whew, that opening is getting longer all of the time but have been keeping it updated. This starts another four episode story and not sure how I'll be posting the recaps, four in a row or once again a pair of them two days apart? About 2-3 years ago changed the way I did recaps and all of the changes have worked out so well. Such as the above intros, expanded them and changed the fonts/colors to make it easier to read. Also made the recaps themselves easier to read as none over these last few years have had more than four segments. However that may need to change for this story, for instance this episode was almost 71 minutes long! Plus so much happened may need to have an extra segment for these recaps, haven't begun writing them so just a heads up on it and hopefully this will be the only time.

Have also viewed the next episode and I cannot believe what has taken place in these two shows! The ending to this episode was one I never saw coming and bet no other viewers would have either, kind of a shame what took place. There are so many more minor storylines and plot twists in these two shows, there will probably be even more for the last two episodes of this revenge case. But have to add in these two shows get a grade of A+ from me as they're so superb and to get to most details is why it may have to be a bit of a longer recap. So highly recommend viewing the screenshots which go in order of the action and will help explain things better, let's finally get to this revenge case! The above and next screenshot is how the previous episode ended, has Ha-Na finally discovered the secret location of Jang's 'revenge squad'?

**** Changed my mind on something which is when the next two recaps will published. Was going to have them in two days but haven't viewed either episode yet and these do take a while to write up so expect those two recaps in about eight days as I need a break from writing up drama posts.

That I will get to in a very shortly but the episode did open up with the above prisoner who is a serial killer. The man's name is Oh Chul-Young who murdered twenty people and of course is serving a life sentence many times over. Ha-Na's boss right above is Cho, he ordered Ha-Na to interview this killer who showed no remorse for his actions. The scene only lasted for two minutes at most and for now it had no impact on what took place in this new revenge case.... yet! Oh's name was mentioned twice in these two recaps for today and he will play a major part in the final few shows which is why Cho wanted his underling Ha-Na to understand what this ruthless killer is all about. Upon further reflection Oh was the man who killed Do-Gi's mother which we learned about so many episodes ago though he was rumored to have committed suicide in prison, yet another mystery for your scorecard!

The man who told Do-Gi about Oh taking his life was the owner of Rainbow Taxi Jang, we'll find out the true story of what took place but was he lying to get Do-Gi to join his 'revenge squad'? At the end of the previous episode Ha-Na had been waiting outside of Jang's residence and until now didn't know it was right next door to Rainbow Taxi. She witnessed Do-Gi driving his souped up taxi into a secret entrance but could never figure out where it disappeared to. For about eight episodes Ha-Na has been so suspicious of Do-Gi, a taxi seems to be on the scene when so many criminals are abducted or vanish into thin air, has he had a part in this? Ha-Na truly believes so and all this time has been working on a case against Do-Gi, not just him but Jang and the other trio that make up the 'revenge squad'. Ha-Na has accumulated so much evidence against the taxi company though much of it isn't all that concrete. She's asked her superior prosecutor Cho to issue her a warrant to search Jang's mansion and grounds, she's positive something vital will turn up. Those are the bottom screenshots above and Cho was very reluctant to issue a warrant, he's been friends with Jang since high school and the two are still very close but in the end Cho did grant Ha-Na her wish as he's a bit curious too about his close mate.

After issuing his best prosecutor Ha-Na the warrant Cho met up with his long time buddy Jang which is the top two screenshots. Cho told Jang about the impending search and of course Jang was a bit taken back that Cho would issue a warrant but he told Jang if nothing is found least Ha-Na will stay off his and Do-Gi''s back. No time for Jang to warn his team as during that meeting Ha-Na, along with her trusty assistant Wang, arrived at Jang's estate. The HQ for the 'revenge squad' is in a cellar that connects the Rainbow Taxi company and Jang's house, it's quite large and also well hidden. At the time of Ha-Na's arrival the entire team save for Jang was in the cellar, above is the hi-tech whiz Go-Eun who warned her mates of the police invasion. The team knew one day an event like this would happen, within a minute or two had every exit and entrance closed/blocked with all possible evidence in Jang's house stashed away. Even after such a thorough search Ha-Na found exactly zero evidence in Jang's house plus she still can't figure out where the taxi went to.

The four slipped out a secret exit and went across the street to view the search which of course was fruitless. Just as Ha-Na was preparing to leave she noticed Do-Gi watching the action and soon the pair hooked up for an intense conversation, the screenshot above and the first one below. Ha-Na is beyond irate at how the criminals she wants to prosecute all end up dead or vanish, she wants some answers from Do-Gi why he was doing that?!!!! Do-Gi never admitted to kidnapping the victims or even worse in some cases but he came so close to doing that. He's so furious at the legal system which doesn't prosecute these dastardly criminals who are allowed to continue their evil ways and he wants to know who speaks up for the victims? For a while it did appear Ha-Na was starting to put herself in the place of victims but that stopped a while ago and really had no convincing words for Do-Gi, soon she'll be changing her mind about the ways of his 'revenge squad'. So that search turned up zero and Cho wasn't too upset with Ha-Na, maybe now she'll concentrate more on other cases. Such as some open cases which have never been brought to trial or closed, all of Cho's prosecutors will be taking at least one case and for Ha-Na that will be the start of this new revenge case.

Ha-Na's cold case has to deal with a young man named Go Dong-Hee, he was a salesman for a construction company who went missing some months ago. The last time he was seen was with a man named Gu Young-Tae, the pair had entered Gu's office and Go was never seen again. So obviously to Ha-Na this man is the most likely suspect but where does she begin? While she was working on it her superior Cho met with Jang to smooth things over about the search of his house. Jang was still upset but agreed to help his long time friend on that Go case which was unknown to Ha-Na. Jang runs the Blue Bird organization which helps victims of crimes, Cho's office has been helping that group for years. Go's father is a pastor, Cho asked Jang to meet up with him to give him support but was there more? Yes, as I feel Cho has by now a good idea of what Jang and his mates have been doing, perhaps his 'revenge squad can clear this matter up and no one will be the wiser! Do-Gi met up with the Pastor Go who told him the entire story of his son who was a salesman and also very devoted to his family, he was engaged to the woman above whose name is Hye-Yeon. However another man also had his eyes on this woman and it appeared Hye-Yeon wanted nothing to do with him.

Gu Young-Tae was this man and of course it had to be more of a coincidence that the last time Go was seen was entering Gu's office. After the story Do-Gi dropped Pastor Go off in front of a video game in an isolated area of Seoul, we've seen it in other episodes. The game is hooked up to Go-Eun's computer at the Rainbow Taxi HQ, at the game a person will select whether they want to employ the 'revenge squad' to get back at the person(s) who has made their life a wreck. Pastor Go had faith in his higher spirit and to the shock of everyone turned down Do-Gi's offer to help Go get revenge, a very religious person would never do such a thing. However soon Jang's team will be on this case and they really had no say in the matter, that will be discussed soon. Meanwhile Ha-Na is working on Go's case and has no idea where to start, she interviewed Go's younger sister who was shattered about her brother's disappearance and that almost brought tears to Ha-Na's eyes. Of course Gu Young-Tae is the only suspect but interviewing him was a waste of time, going to be glad when he gets his just due!

You can see more of Gu Young-Tae's story above, he drugged Go's drink at a restaurant and hope it doesn't sound cruel because it isn't but at least Go never woke to feel the pain which will be explained in the next recap. So Pastor Go said no to hiring Jang's team to enact revenge for his son's disappearance but Jang's team, especially Do-Gi, want to continue on for a while. Ha-Na was unable to keep this creep locked up for she had no evidence, Gu was released and trailing him in his deluxe taxi was Do-Gi. Gu has three offices/places where he does his dirty work, one office was where Go was last seen. One other will be getting to soon and the third place is the main office of Nakwon C and C. That company is owned by of all people the very mysterious and evil woman Baek, you won't believe some of the things she does in the next show. At this office Gu Young-Tae was berating a wimpy man named Sim, he's the owner of a small company named HM. That company supplies Gu Young-Tae with a lot of chemicals, that we learned in the next show. While Do-Gi was eavesdropping who should arrive but Baek's main bodyguard Gu Seok-Tae and Do-Gi had to do a double take, he's looking at the same man outside that is also in the inside of this office!!!!

As mentioned in the beginning the pair are twins. For now on will refer to the the man on the left as Young-Tae, the man responsible for Go's disappearance. The man on the right is Baek's bodyguard and will be referring to him as Gu, will keep it that way until one or both die!

Gu dragged Do-Gi inside and in an adjoining room was Do-Gi's boss Jang who was meeting with Baek. The two soon left and they began to wonder what will these vicious twins do next, to date they appear to be working apart but will they join forces? That man Sim who Young-Tae berates endlessly is also an alcoholic and that evening was picked up once again with a DUI charge. The next day he met up with the prosecutor Ha-Na who knows about his relationship with Young-Tae. If Sim will help her out on this Go case she'll drop all charges but of course Sim refused her.... at first. He began to think back on all of the beatings Young-Tae had given him, they won't cease until he's put away so Sim has agreed to assist Ha-Na and that night will be meeting Young-Tae for some(many) cocktails. Both had many questions which neither answered fully, Young-Tae about the DUI charge and Sim about Go's disappearance. Eventually Young-Tae answered that question but in Sim's ear so we didn't know what happened with Go until the next episode. To me Young-Tae had this evening all planned out to get back at Sim, he pretended to pass out from drinking and Sim soon left but first called Ha-Na, Young-Tae heard a bit of it. When Sim reached the stairway who should be there but the twin brother Gu(!), also coming up behind Sim was the somewhat sober Young-Tae!

With no options Sim dashed to a window and jumped but luckily wasn't too injured and ran away in panic. But soon catching up to him was Gu and now it appears these twins will be working as a team.... or have they been? Gu was ready to level a severe beating on Sim, probably until he died but a savior arrived just in time. That was Do-Gi and he's been following Young-Tae around for days, when he saw Sim crash out of a window he gave chase. Do-Gi told Sim to beat it which he did, now it was a face off against Gu. Do-Gi is the best fighter I've seen in a drama but Gu was almost his equal, the pair gave each other a beating. Just when it appeared Do-Gi may have gotten the upper hand sirens were approaching, that battle will have to be finished another day! Roaming these alleys was the other twin Young-Tae who noticed Sim who he quickly hid in a warehouse. It took a while but Young-Tae did eventually find Sim and began to beat him but soon stopped, why was that?

The entire fight scene opens up the next episode and now we're down to the last two minutes of this 71 minute episode. Those sirens that broke up the fight between Do-Gi and Gu were courtesy of Ha-Na, she was able to track the cellphone signal of Sim but it's now disappeared. The police did a quick search and arrived at the warehouse where there was no Young-Tae, Sim or Gu. But there was one dead body there and this incident was the biggest shock to date in this drama. Wheeled out of the warehouse which is in the first three screenshots below was Ha-Na's faithful assistant prosecutor Wang who had been stabbed to death! That was such a surprise to all of us viewers and as you can see in these screenshots Ha-Na was out of control with grief and who can blame her? Watching from the crowd was Do-Gi and he too was quite stunned, that's one big shame as Wang was such a decent man. So that shocking conclusion ends this rather lengthy recap but it being such a long episode had to make it longer than usual, the next recap will be throwing even more shocking events at you!!!!
