"Sono Goen, Otodokeshimasu: Mercari de Atta Honto no Hanashi" drama: Episode two recap

Air Dates: November 3rd to December 6, 2020  Tuesday nights at 1:00 am on MBS
Also goes by the name of 'The Fate, I Will Deliver: True Story of Mercari'
Subs were done by aoihachi at DA.

Main Cast: Just these two but many guest stars in each episode.

Marie Iitoyo as Riku Kuroe.... Owns a small delivery truck called 'Elephant Express' and she delivers packages for the Mercari site. They're an online flea market but Riku doesn't believe she's just delivering items but instead dreams or has she also often says fate. Her parents died in a fire a decade earlier and doesn't seem she liked them all that much.

Muka Tuskaji as Shiro Mita.... He owns a small grocery where Riku has her work base. When her parents died Shiro became her foster parent but not much else is known about him.

Guest Stars:

Eri Tokunaga as Kyoko Mizukawa.... 32 year old office worker married to the below man and the story revolves around their desire to get divorced.

Tomoya Maeno as Atsuhi Mizukawa.... Husband of the office woman and we never did learn what his job was, they're divorcing but does he really want that?

Wasn't too much of a shock that this series ended up being subbed, seems that's often the case with these late night dramas. It's just a six episode drama so will do three sets of two recaps, a show is only 23+ minutes so these will be much shorter than the 'Start-Up" recaps and I'm so thankful for that. Main reason for watching this series was that Marie has the lead role but it's slightly disappointing she doesn't have more screen time, she may have had eight minutes in this episode. That's because the stories will revolve around the packages she delivers but to her they're actually items that can make dreams come true. The guest stars aren't household names but ones I've seen quite often in shows such as this episode's and it's actors like them which can really make or break a drama.

At the end of the previous episode we learned Riku's parents Kenji and Sachie had died ten years ago but didn't know anything more. In the opening scene we learned they died in a fire and after that Shiro became her foster parent. he owns the grocery store where Riku has her small Elephant Express office. She seems very cold towards the memory of her parents and that'll be something I'm sure we'll learn of as time goes on. But her coldness was kind of the 'fate' Riku talks about on occasion as to he the packages she delivers are either 'dreams that could come true' or how a person's 'fate is decided'.

This story is about a married couple in their young thirties, Kyoko is the wife who is an OL while her husband is Atsushi but we never heard where he worked. Kyoko had one close friend at work named Yuri who she could confide in and told her about the couple's impending divorce. Yuri was at a loss on why they wanted one after hearing Kyoko explaining the non-reasons. To Kyoko there was really no reason why she married Atsushi, it just kind of happened. On the flip side there's really no good reason on why the pair are in the stages of getting a divorce, just seemed like the right thing to do. At the couple's apartment there's only one bedroom and not a large enough room for Atsushi to sleep in after their 'separation' so what he's done was to set up a tent in their dining/living room.

Atsushi was an avid camper and at one time the pair did go on many outings but like most couples activities like that faded away. It's approaching the end of the month so the pair need to vacate the apartment because of the divorce and neither wanted to stay there. But both had accumulated too many items over the years, Atsushi thought of a good idea to get rid of them which was to sell many on the large flea marker site, Mercari. Kyoko had never heard of the site until she answered the door when Riku came to pick up some items. To Kyoko what a great site that seemed to be and quickly had Atsushi set up an account for her there.

As Kyoko had mentioned to her friend there really was no concrete reason to get a divorce and I noticed how well the pair were getting along. So didn't Atsushi who confided to a friend that they were getting along better than ever, right around then I realized the divorce was mainly Kyoko's idea. She's become quite a Mercari fanatic and has really become consumed with selling her old items, what's going to happen when there's nothing left? To Atsushi she's actually selling too much such as all of the presents he's given her over the years. To Kyoko though they hold no sentimental value, why would he give his wife a sleeping bag for a birthday gift?

Atsushi though couldn't bear to see Kyoko sell so many of the gifts he had given her, to him they truly did mean something and perhaps of when the couple were happier? Secretly Arsushi had been buying some of the items himself on Mercari which was discovered by Kyoko above when Riku delivered an old sleeping bag. It's two days until the apartment needed to be vacated and Atsushi suggested the pair having a 'farewell dinner' which Kyoko thought would take place in a ritzy restaurant. The location was far from ritzy as Atsushi prepared a final meal at their small place and Kyoko was quite furious with that. The pair had been getting along so well hut we did witness an all out verbal battle which is something that may have been needed.

One of Kyoko's biggest beefs was that never once had Atsushi ever told her 'I Love You'. He knew that too but Atsushi just isn't one of those gushy types of men. That major spat during their final dinner did much more help than damage though as the two did clear the air about so many issues. Atsushi admitted he did not want a divorce and never did, he picked up the forms and tore them into a hundred pieces. But while doing that he finally uttered the words Kyoko had been wanting to hear for ages which was 'I Love You'. With that the couple knew they were meant for each other and the divorce is a thing of the past, as they were making up Riku once again appeared with more items Atsushi had bought back.

Bit of a fluffy drama but knew that going in, just so nice though to see a Marie series subbed as not enough have been done but her one from earlier this year was. Will be doing a pair of recaps every other week which means the next two should be about two weeks from now. Taking a break from the "Start-Up" drama but will have four recaps next week plus a pair from the 'Talio' series. Another show I'm about to start is "Cheat" that aired exactly a year ago but wasn't subbed until recently, plan on viewing and recapping that show once "Start-Up" has finished it's run.
