Bit of a comeback after a so-so third episode, the pair of Kaoruko and Akita seem to have developed a good chemistry which has really made this drama quite enjoyable though the stories aren't always the strongest.Like episode 1 this show also featured our duo solving a murder case, they never set out to be the solvers of the unknown crime but somehow it's always been up to them to solve the mystery of a death, sure every episode will be like that. Case this time centered around a younger woman around 30 who mysteriously died one morning seemingly of natural causes, at first the medical examiners and police couldn't find any foul play so it was assumed to be a natural death. Nothing gets by the eye of Akita though and he finally deduced that the woman died from something I had never heard of which was called 'Economy Class Syndrome'. It has to do with a blot clot forming in your legs from being in one position for too long, kind of seemed hard to believe though as how many millions stay in one position for so long, wouldn't here be so many deaths because of sitting in one position for so long?
The deceased woman, whose name is Akane, a few years prior had an operation, one which did cause a blood clot and she was supposed to be on medication for that seemingly forever. She had been taking it for a year or so then suddenly stopped going to the hospital to pick up the meds and told no one why she no longer needed them. Akane's sister told Kaoruko and Akita that Akane had been a bit of a loner who seemed like she would never marry but unknown to all until her death she actually was having a secret affair. Not really an affair since the man wasn't married yet but was engaged, the man in question was a doctor at the hospital where Akane had her operation, his fiancee was the daughter of the hospital's director so there was no way he wouldn't go through with the marriage. He eventually broke up with Akane who took it quite well but the doctor didn't realize this and started planning her death. He got Akane to stop taking the anti blood clot meds and instead tricked her into taking just regular vitamins.
With Akane not taking her regular medication her blood clot was ready to make a reappearance and the doctor knew this. He visited her one night and slipped her some sleeping pills, her sister thought Akane had been hard at work all night as she was a writer but instead she had slept all night. While she was sleeping the doctor tied her up so she wouldn't move any parts of her body and left her in a sitting position, by morning time remaining like that caused her blood clot to come back! Once again it was a bit hard to believe that a blood clot could form that quickly after just sleeping a few hours but it did and if wasn't for the keen eye of one of the other medical examiners the doctor would have never been a suspect.
Upon learning that Akane had been slipped sleeping pills Akita and Kaoruko went into action with their investigation, didn't seem like they had to work as hard this time around finding the suspect but they found him it seemed too quickly. The doctor who had committed the murder was the only person they looked at and even though there was no hard evidence of what the doctor did they presented him with the theories of how Akane died. Eventually through some grilling and one object that Akane had given the doctor that they had luckily found in his apartment the doctor finally confessed to his crime.
Another mysterious death and another one that dealt with foul play that the duo of Akita and Kaoruko solved though this time around as I had mentioned they didn't work as hard to solve the crime. Actually they didn't start on their investigation until well into the episode so there wasn't enough time for them to do a thorough investigation then. Though things were a bit rushed the second half of the show it still was another solid watch, no episode has been really terrific yet all to date have been quite enjoyable. The next episode may have been the best one yet but won't be doing that recap for another day or so, try to do two reviews at a time but just not inspired enough today to do another one. As usual the next post has a mega amount of screenshots for the episode, didn't leave out much in this recap but it may help you follow the story a bit better plus Saki really looks quite good in all the pics.
