"Kimi to Sekai ga Owaru Hi ni" drama: Season one, episode two recap

Air Dates: January 17th until March 21, 2021 Sundays at 10:30 pm on NTV
Title translates over to Love You as the World Ends, subs done by Manxcat at D-Addicts

Episode Ratings.... #1, 8.4%.... #2, 8.2%

Main Cast: Won't be adding too many characters in but instead may be removing many as already two of the main characters were killed at the end of the second show, they'll have their own section.

Ryoma Takeuchi as Hibiki Mamiya.... ~25 year old mechanic who lives with his girlfriend Kurumi and was about to propose when the disaster struck. At the time Hibiki was trapped in a tunnel and escaped after four days, eventually he joined up with a few other survivors.

Ayami Nakajo as Kurumi Ogasawara.... Hibiki's girlfriend and the pair went to high school together. She's in her second year of internship to become a doctor yet is still a bit too green.

Marie Iitoyo as Kanae Hiragi.... Third year college student who survived the catastrophe by being stuck on an elevator with Shoko, her daughter and three others.

Sho Kasamatsu as Hiro Todoroki.... Went to high school with Hibiki but really can't stand the sight of him. Hiro is a detective whose superior Hongo was killed at the end of the second episode. That makes him in charge of the small group and he's such a mean, hateful young man.

Tamae Ando as Shoko Mihara.... A caregiver by trade and is the mother of Yuzuki, they were trapped in an elevator with Kanae with two others.

Naho Yokomizo as Yuzuki Mihara.... Twelve year old survivor who has asthma.

Makita Sports as Yohei Komoto.... Owner of a small moving company and ended being trapped in the apartment elevator with Kanae and thee others.

Kim Jae-Hyun as Yoon Min-Jun.... Immigrant from Korea who is working with Komoto, he too was trapped in the apartment elevator which saved six lives.

Hyunri as Yoon Jian.... Min-Jun's older sister who is working in Japan as a doctor and has been assigned to help with the outbreak working for the Self Defense Forces of Japan.

Kenishi Takito as Koki Shuto.... Head doctor for the Self Defense Forces.

 Those who are now deceased:

Ryohei Otani as Daiki Hongo.... Police detective who is Todoroki's superior who has to always keep him in check. Hongo seemed like a really decent man but at the end of the second show he was shot, it appears as though he's dead but is he?

Takashi Sasano as Masaomi Uwajima.... Older man who was a novelist, he was bitten by a Zombie in the second episode and died at the end.

Whew, seems like a large cast but it really isn't as most get a lot of screen time. This is my kind of drama as horror is my favorite genre and most series with that theme have been solid watches. Have viewed three other dramas with a Zombie theme, all were quite good but this will be the most serious and gory of them all. This is also the first season, there will be ten episodes in this one. A week after this season ends the second will begin with six shows and not sure why they weren't combined. Perhaps because of the time frame, this begins in September 2019 so maybe the second will take place in current times. Following this post is the recap for the second show.

No need to rehash anything from the previous show as that's the above post. It ended with Hibiki contacting his girlfriend Kurumi by radio, she's a second year intern at the Miura hospital and the staff had taken refuge at the high school where Hibiki and his group now are. But once it began being overrun by Zombies the staff had to flee and she's pleading for Hibiki to help as they're trapped at the major Harumi intersection. Kurumi never needs to plead too hard with Hibiki about anything as he dashed as quickly as possible to her location along with the detective Hongo and Yoon. However when they arrived she nor anyone else was around or at least alive. But they've discovered that on the scene is now the Self Defense Forces, we knew they were in the city though none of the survivors did.

Also on the scene to help out was a crew from Korea, wonder why they would be there unless there was an incident like this in their country too. Haven't discussed Kurumi all that much and that's mainly because we saw so little of her in the first show. The Defense troops have rescued her along with a pair of children and two staff from the hospital. One of the children is a boy of about eight in age who desperately needs surgery as a spike was driven through his leg fleeing from the Zombies. Kurumi is a second year intern but there's no way she's capable of doing the surgery, luckily when the she and the others arrived at a safe location in Miura there was an experienced doctor to save the boy. Not just any doctor but against all odds it's the sister of Yoon and did he follow her to Japan? The sister's name is Jian and who knows at this point who came to Japan first, her or her brother.

That's because Jian is in Japan to help create a vaccine to cure those who have been bitten by a Zombie. That was quick as the unknown outbreak only took place six days ago. The Defense Forces have set up a base at Camp Yokosuka in Miura, that'll soon be the destination of the nine known survivors. But first this little boy needed to be operated on quickly, at first Jian was pleased Kurumi was also a doctor but dismayed to learn she was just a second year intern. Jian is one hard nosed woman who berated Kurumi during the entire operation, didn't do much for her confidence. But the boy made it through the hurried operation unscathed and at least Kurumi will be learning much from Jian, bet so much she'll end up being a heroine at some point.

After that operation is when Kurumi and the other four in her group were transported to Camp Yokosuka but of course there were a few skirmishes along the way with packs of Zombies. They're appearing one after another and it appears not all that many residents were able to flee Miura, least in the daytime their strength isn't as powerful. You may wonder why and so don't I on that, but it's only the second episode so we have a lot to learn. At the camp is where the a large medical staff has set up a facility to find a vaccine for the unknown virus but by now isn't it gone.? Yes it is but the government is unsure if it'll spread outside of the city, for now Miura is the only city being overrun by Zombies. The man in the white coat above is Shuto, he's the leader of the medical staff but we didn't get to know much about him yet but there's something slightly shady about him to me. After their arrival Kurumi and the others are in isolation until the staff is positive they don't carry the odd virus.

That's mainly what took place with Kurumi and the forces sent to Miura to ward off the Zombies. But what of the other nine survivors who are actually the main focus of the story? They've learned about the safe center at Camp Yokosuka and it'll be their next and hopefully final destination. But first transportation needed to be arranged and don't know why they didn't hunt harder for vehicles. Hibiki began working on one, he thought it was repaired but to his dismay the tank was lacking gas. So on the hunt for some was the detective Hongo along with a person not mentioned up until now who is Komoto. He's the owner of the moving company Yoon works at and the pair were saved as they were in the same elevator as the three females. But Komoto is holding a secret which may cost the lives of the others, one he didn't reveal to Hongo until they were well away from their group.

In that bottom screenshot above is the older novelist Uwajima who was looking quite sickly and that aroused Komoto's curiosity. He asked the older man what was the problem who then confessed he had been bitten by a Zombie when they were fleeing the high school. But that was over five hours ago, if it hasn't changed him yet perhaps he's immune to their bites? Komoto didn't entirely believe him but Uwajima may be correct so he agreed to keep mum about it for now. But as he was on the hunt for gas Uwajima passed out in front of the others and was brought to a nearby building, almost all by this time are abandoned save for those occupied by Zombies. As Uwajima was lying in pain he admitted that he had been bitten by a Zombie but as he said perhaps he's immune to them. Todoroki thought that was a lot of bull and had all intentions of shooting the elderly man. He would have right then in front of the others but jumping in front of Uwajima was Hibiki and it wasn't a wise move on his part.

One slight annoyance is the way Hibiki acts so nicely towards others and hope they tone it down a bit in the future. While of course compassion is a nice trait under these circumstances it isn't as Hibiki is putting the lives of the others in danger. They agree with Todoroki that sadly Uwajima needs to be killed but Hibiki is still remaining firm on that not happening. He volunteered to keep watch over a tied up Uwajima who still wasn't showing any signs of turning into a Zombie. But his health was failing rapidly, even if he didn't turn into a creature he felt that the end was near. To make a longish story short the building the seven were holed up in was soon overrun by Zombies and is there no safe place in the city? Zombies are attracted by the smell of blood(?) and the aroma of Uwajima led a huge horde of them to the building. The group fled but even though Hibiki was helping Uwajima he couldn't keep up with the others. In his last few moments Uwajima told the others to leave and he would ward off the Zombies long enough for them to escape, he did that feat and that's him above.

While that action was going on Hongo and Komoto were still on the search for gasoline and of course finally found a working station. But I still can't understand why the group didn't use other cars or even their own, why were they so hell bent on using the same two vehicles? Also with Hibiki working at a car garage he would have access to many cars and gas, why didn't he think of that? So as the pair were returning gunshots were heard by them and they were nearby. Hongo quickly investigated and found a few Defense force soldiers in combat with a group of Zombies. He jumped into the fray after convincing the soldiers he was a normal human, these Zombie attacks are endless and we're only in the second episode! Hongo told Komoto to return to the group of seven which now is six after the demise of Uwajima. After the latest batch of Zombies was killed off(do they stay dead?) Hongo talked with the leader telling him about the others. This leader told Hongo his forces were holed up at Camp Yokosuka and they needed to make their way there, at that point if they're healthy enough they'll be transported to Yokohama.

Hongo quickly dashed back to his mates and told them the good news. It's only been six days since the unknown virus outbreak but it probably felt like a lifetime to the eight who jumped into two vehicles and headed to the safe camp. Surprisingly on the way there were no Zombie attacks, it is daytime when their strength isn't as powerful but they're on the prowl 24 hours a day. So the group made it to the edge of Camp Yokosuka and Hongo as the unofficial leader started leading them towards the gate. He was waving his arms and in a very unexpected occurrence shots rang out, before anyone could move lying there seemingly dead on the ground was Hongo and that was an incident I didn't see coming. That took place in the final seconds, it appears Hongo has been shot to death(by mistake?) but to me there's a 1% chance we haven't seen the last of him and hope not as I did like the character.

My two current drama watches are the complete opposites. The other show is "Uchi no Musume wa Kareshi ga Dekinai" and just viewed it's third episode. That's kind of a lighthearted yet quirky romance drama but am liking it quite a bit. However so far have to say this is the better of the two though there's still a long way to go in both series. So up next will be a pair of recaps for 'Uchi', then the next two for this show as the recaps will be alternating. Plenty of screenshots of course at the end and I do recommend viewing them as they do help you follow the story much better. They're in order of what took place and I rely on them to help me write these posts up.
