Yuki Yoda: "Ryosangata Riko: Puramo Joshi no Jinsei Kumitate Ki" drama, episode two recap

Air Dates: June 30th until September 2, 2022... Thursday nights at 12:30 am on TV-Tokyo
Episodes are 24 minutes in length, subs are being done by Masssterchief

Main Cast: Most of the action takes place at the very busy Fun Fun Create company which specializes in planning and holding events. Wrote this up after viewing the first episode so a bit of tweaking will be done as we go on. There's three divisions at the company, #'s one and two are so busy they need more than 24 hours in a day! But our 'heroine' Riko works in the third division with four others and they are far from busy as their main tasks are mailing out flyers and such. In the first show a rumor had even started that the third division could be disbanded, will that eventually happen?

Yuki Yoda as Riko Komukai.... Has acquired the nickname of 'Mass Production Girl' as she just likes mainstream and safe things/activities. But one night after work she passed by the Yasan Hobby Shop which she had never noticed before. Deep down Riko does like models and such, she had never made any though until entering this shop and then the rest is history....

Karen Fujii as Kyoko Nakano.... Female employee in the third division, she seems to be talented so how did she end up there? Kyoko gets along with Riko so well but has noticed her friend can be way too boring and needs a jolt to her life.

Oshiro Maeda as Yuki Asai.... Started at the company with Riko but while she's still stuck at the bottom Asai has moved up to the first division. Seems as though he's doing well but in reality think he's not doing that that good of a job... he's a bit stuck up too.

Ayumu Mochizuki as Ryota Oishi.... Ace of the first division unit.

Ayumu Mochizuki as Shinji Takaji.... We met him in the second episode when he was transferred from the first to the third division. He knows almost everything about the company but his problem is Takaji doesn't like to do any 'real work'.

Magy as Teru Inuzuka.... Leader of the third division, very laid back man which isn't a positive at the Fun Fun Create company.

Yoshiyuki Morishita as Hitoshi Kijimura.... Third division employee who like the others is so worried they'll be laid off.

Yoji Tanaka as Ichi Yajima.... Owner of the Yasan Hobby Shop where Riko visited in the first show and where she became addicted to models. Yajima seems to know all there is about models and took such a liking to Riko who tends to like the older versions.

Erika Ishikawa as Chiemi Ikuta.... Part time employee at Yajima's shop.

May add in a few more characters as we go along

Wasn't sure if creating models would be the main focus of this show but after viewing this second episode think it will be. That's a positive as those scenes are the best and if you're into modeling, especially older ones, then do recommend this drama. There's three divisions/departments at the Fun Fun Create company who set up events for clients and also do a lot of promoting work. Being stuck in the third division means you're at the bottom where our 'heroine' Riko has been for her first two years at the company. However she and her other four workers are competent but seems they don't are much about getting promoted. There's now a sixth employee in the unit who is right above, his name is Takaji who was transferred from the first division. Think it's a demotion but not 100% positive on that, he does know so much about Fun Fun Create and the first thing Takaji did was to tell the unit what they're doing wrong! They just rolled their eyes at him and not a good way to start off in a new unit.

Takaji also had an announcement which was that the third division will finally be getting their own project! However it was one the first two divisions didn't want with the huge reason being that the proposal for the event had to be done in three days! This project was to promote Sports Cars and that industry in Japan has been dying out for the last two decades. One reason is that younger people, say under forty, aren't into those kinds of cars and the object is to get them interested once again in sports cars. Being that the target base is young people Takaji said the team should just consist of three employees who will be himself, Riko and the very efficient Kyoko. Takaji said let's start on the project tomorrow which meant only two days would be remaining until the proposal was due! The following day is when we learned what kind of worker Takaji really is. As mentioned he knows everything about Fun Fun Create but then again he's not a person who can come up with original ideas. Plus it seems he hates rolling his sleeves up to work hard so Kyoko suggested he should take it easy and do something else, leave the project up to her and Riko which Takaji readily agreed to.

Don't know about Kyoko but this appears to be the first major project Riko has ever worked on. Prior to this her duties had always consisted of making copies, sending out flyers and just doing basic clerical duties. But Riko was very enthused about the project yet didn't know the first thing about cars as she doesn't have a license. However her and Kyoko did create something which they thought would appeal to the company they're submitting the proposal to, it did look good but perhaps way too bland. That's according to the man in the second screenshot above, his name is Oishi and is the ace of the first division. In the last episode it seemed he liked Riko's spunky attitude and will always help her out, he gave some suggestions for this sports car project. Oishi said you're trying to sell a product so it's key to know everything about it plus you should show some 'love' about the product to the potential customers, some very wise advice. Riko though knows zero about cars or why people like them, how can she learn in such a short period of time?

It seems when the going gets tough Riko's haven will be the Yasan Hobby Shop, she went there immediately after that chat with Oishi. The shop is owned by the man above whose name is Yajima, with him is his knowledgeable assistant Chiemi. They were surprised to see Riko visit the hobby shop again, they wondered is she now hooked on models? Perhaps not right now but think after this episode the answer may be YES! In that first show Riko build a model of the Zaku character from the 'Gundam' anime series, this time around she was looking for a sports car model that she hoped would help her on the project. To Yajima's delight once again Riko picked a slightly older model, one that doesn't snap together but still needs to be glued and painted. Riko's selection is right above which was the Nissan R35 GT-R model based on the 2014 car, back then the real thing cost over $80,000! That Zaku model was a nice start for Riko as it was simple, she figured all would be like that. Not this sports car though which had twice as many pieces plus most were much smaller, think Riko wanted to give up even before starting on it!

In that bottom screenshot are the other employees in Riko's unit, so far we haven't seen much of them. Back to the Yasan Hobby Shop and though the model looked impossible to build Riko started on it, she could have done it at home but wanted the guidance of Chiemi and Yajima. He's such a treat to listen to as he knows seemingly every bit of modeling history plus is a very good teacher. Riko has made a few mistakes here and there but Yajima never said one discouraging word, actually to him you don't need to go exactly as the instructions say and how it turns out is how the builder wanted it. No time frame was given though it had to be many hours but Riko succeeded in building this Nissan R-35 car and you can see that above. That car had so many tiny pieces such as a gear shift, steering wheel, engine parts, etc. so Riko did an excellent job and it was only the second time she had built a model. She did confess to her new friends the main reason for this car was that Riko wanted to learn why others have 'love' for them, think she discovered it.

Forgot to add in that modeling isn't cheap. That car goes for 3740 yen which is $27.50 but you also need to buy glue, paint, brushes, etc.

So two days later it was time for the presentation for the Sports Car Project which was held in front of the potential clients and the Fun Fun Create directors. They were a bit taken back when Riko told the group of stern looking men her inspiration for this superb project was making a model car and she could see why others would love them. She and Kyoko did a bang up job with the project and presentation, they did it so well the proposal was accepted! So will this be the start of a different career for Riko at the company or perhaps will the third division now get more projects to do? We'll see what happens and that ended this second episode off which just aired two nights ago. The subber is Masssterchief and they get these subs done quick so will give a thanks to them. So far this has ben a fun drama though at times the office scenes are a bit too slow. However when Riko visits the hobby shop those scenes are so interesting and informative, will it get me into modeling?! As usual have plenty of screenshots which do help you follow the story a bit better.
