Main Cast: This is correct as there's only two characters and really it's mainly just Hinako who is on screen close to 100% of the time. When she interacts with her best friend it's always by video on their cellphones and it could be because of the virus.
Hinako Sakurai as Sayoko Oyumino.... 25 year old OL(supposedly) who is overly obsessed with taking baths! Seems she has only one friend in the world and spends all of her time alone which is fine by her as taking baths is more important than being around humans! The narration is also done by Sayoko as we rarely hear her talk out loud.
Sakurako Konishi as Aino Hiyama.... Sayoko's only friend and she's man crazy, though she has a boyfriend he ignores her and she's always on the hunt for another. The pair went to an unnamed college together.
Not sure what's next on the 'watch list', there's many things but for now would prefer to continue watching shorter dramas that are short in minutes, episodes or both. Then again do have some films I would like to get to and with the new version of Blogger probably coming in a few days watching my backlog of movies seems like the odds on favorite for what's next. The first five episodes in this series were all quite good, not a must watch drama but if you enjoy quirky, down to earth shows then this is one up your alley. But this final show was a bit disappointing, not a bad episode but nothing much happened as there was no special bath and thought this series would have ended with some sort of bang which it didn't.
Those first five episodes featured Sayoko preparing a unique bath and making many special 'potion's or effects to add to the bath. That didn't happen this show as at the end for the most part Sayoko just took a regular bath and perhaps that was the point, that it doesn't really matter what kind of bath it is to such a fanatic such as Sayoko. But at first it was going to be her greatest creation, as you can see above she was planning to transform her bathroom into a hot spring. Sayoko had read that back in the Edo period there were hot springs in houses and ships, if they could do something like that 125 years ago shouldn't she be able to do so now?
Sayoko quickly went all out in the transformation and wonder if she had these things saved up for such an occasion. First off she ended up putting three medium sized boulders in her tub such as a hot spring would have. In that bottom screenshot Sayoko thought that an essential thing for a hot spring was to view the stars so she was prepared to make a large hole with her trusty sledgehammer!!!! But of course very hot steamy water would be needed so that's when Sayoko decided to import daily the water from a famous hot springs in Hakone.
Someone needed to burst Sayoko's bubble, naturally it was her best friend Aino and the pair must talk via their phone's video five hours a day. First Aino said by the time the hot water arrived at her apartment wouldn't it be cold? A dejected Sayoko had to agree plus how could she even think of hammering a large hole in her ceiling? In Sayoko's enthusiasm she didn't think of those things but there was one major detail Aino pointed out that really disappointed her.
That was of Sayoko putting the boulders in the tub, to Aino doing something like that would leave dents or scratches, didn't Sayoko love her tub any more? Those questions really floored Sayoko who was left speechless and she too had to wonder why she was such a cruel person to her tub. She was so dejected she didn't even take a bath that night and never left the floor of her living room, she couldn't bear to face her ex-loved bathtub(?)!/ After not hearing from her friend Aino appeared at her door the next morning, when Sayoko goes one day without a bath something severe must be wrong and Aino came to save her friend.
And being a savior is what Aino was, of all people too as for up to now she had always been a shower person. She explained to Sayoko that a sincere apology to the bathtub should be sufficient, she was curious to know how Aino could know such a fact and she came to the conclusion that Aino could speak 'bathtub language'! That state of delirium is what happens to Sayoko after one day of not taking a bath, what would happen if it went on for a week? But with Aino there Sayoko gave a sincere apology to her bathtub and now everyone is happy but especially Sayoko as now it's time for her overdue bath.
For every bath Sayoko either brings in a small meal or partakes of one before the occasion. But to her and our surprise her fridge was almost completely empty, she had always seemed like the most prepared person in the world. However there were some frozen rice balls in the freezer which she ate even though they were just plain ones. That led Sayoko to realize that a bath could be enjoyable even without all of the special effects or things she adds to the. Sayoko did find some charcoal in the fridge and we learned that's an ingredient that can work well to make bath water more soothing. It was an enjoyable bath and the episode/series ended off with her talking to her friend Aino who now appears to be a 'bath fanatic' too! Aino mentioned that the writing contest they were going to enter had been cancelled, not sure what she was referring to. But in the beginning there was a seventy second stretch with no subs, bet it was mentioned then and with that this recap comes to it's conclusion.
Not an entirely boring episode, the last half was decent but not as good as the first five shows. Usually don't rate a drama like this one, it's one to just kick back and enjoy. Five of the six shows were quite good or slightly better, that's an 83% which is a B if you were to grade it. Hinako really does such a superb job in more quirky or darker shows, she was the reason I viewed this and not many if any actresses are as good as she is these days but she'll always remain the least popular fave I post often about.
