"Do You Like Brahms?" drama: Episode's 27 and 28 rcap

Air Dates: August 31st until October 20, 2020  Monday and Tuesdays at 10:00 pm on SBS
Ratings for these two episodes, 4.3 and 5.7%

Main Cast: The college referred to is Seoryeong University, a very prestigious music school though it does have many other programs.

Park Eun-Bin as Chae Song-Ah.... 'Chae' sounds quite a bit like the Korean word for sorry and she constantly has to tell others it's her real name. Song-Ah is 29 and graduated from the university at 22 with a business degree. However she hasn't had a steady job since then as her first love was playing the violin. After four attempts she was finally accepted into the school's musical program, she's finished three years yet is still not a very accomplished player.

Kim Min-Jae as Park Joon-Young.... He's an award winning pianist and the same age as
Song-Ah. He too graduated from Seoryeong University and for many years has been touring the world performing concerts. He's a very respected pianist yet has returned to the university for their graduate program but see no reason why.

Lee You-Jin as Yoon Dong-Yun.... Friend of Song-Ah's and went out briefly with Min-Seong. We didn't see him in this first episode as he was in Italy but has just returned in this show. He owns a violin shop though doesn't play much these days.

Bae Da-Bin as Kang Min-Seong.... Song-Ah's best friend who is going to the same college, she's getting her Masters in Chemistry.

Park Ji-Hyun as Lee Jung-Kyung.... She's just returned from America where she tried so hard to become a professor of music at some colleges but failed. She's a violinist whose mother died when she was fourteen, she had dated Hyun-Ho for ten years though she secretly wished to be with Joog-Young.

Kim Seong Cheol as Han Hyun-Ho.... He too has just returned from America and is a talented cello player. He's best friends with Joon-Young and has been dating Jung-Kyung but he's more serious about their relationship than she is.

Lee Ji-Won as Kim Ha-Nae....Also a violinist who is seven years younger than Song-Ah but both have just started at a Summer internship for the Kyunghoo Foundation.

Seo Jung-Yeon as Cha Young-In.... Manager of Song-Ah and Ha-Nae at the foundation.

Choi Dae-Hoon as Park Sung-Jae.... Employee at the foundation.

Ahn Sang-Ein as Jung Da-Woon..... Another foundation employee.

Ye Soo-Young as Na Moon-Sook.... Director of the Kyunghoo Foundation and whose daughter died in 2006 who was the mother of Jung-Kyung.

Yoon Chan-Young as Seung Ji-Min.... Very talented younger popular pianist

Baek Ji-Won as Professor Lee.... Song-Ah's professor who is pushing her to enter the graduate program but is more interested in who she knows than Song-Ah's music.

Joo Suk-Tae as Yoo Tae-Jin.... Joon-Young's music teacher from the ages of 14 to 22. Their relationship was a bit rocky but the pair are now working together again.

Know this series has become so dour, moody and depressing but it's remained a fast paced show and at least the storylines are interesting. The mood compared to the last recap didn't change much and quite a bit new did take place, don't know if the ending will be a happy one though would think so. But everything is being set up for a a traumatic(?) finale but know many of the main character's dreams won't be fulfilled. The last recap ended up with a confrontation between Song-Ah and Jung-Kyung in front of Joon-Young's apartment building. The action does begin off with the pair but as was the case in the previous recap there were some flashbacks on what led up to that scene and wish they would just show events as they happen. Those flashbacks took up the first ten minutes and at least everything was described in full detail.

The incident that ended off the last recap and was the major story for these two episodes was of the professor Yoo secretly recording Joon-Young playing the piano and passing it off as his own playing. Yoo has been his main instructor since the age of fourteen but the pair have never seen eye to eye and their relationship has been extremely strained for many years. So it was a surprise when Joon-Young asked Yoo to help him for an upcoming Tchaikovsky competition, Joon-Young really needs the money that first place will pay. There's no decent piano at Seoryeong University to use so Joon-Young has been practicing in Yoo's office. Yoo is in the second screenshot above and he's a superb player but just was never talented to be a solo performer so of course he's been a bit envious of Joon-Young.

A few months before Yoo had released a CD of his piano playing which was panned by most critics. Can't say what was going through his mind or how he thought he'd get away with it but Yoo had a recorder hidden while Joon-Young was practicing. Shortly after he gave a copy to a producer he knew, the piece on the recording was 'Traumerei' by Schumann and in Yoo's defense he didn't know that producer would upload the audio to YT. But he did and the compliments began rolling in but who should have heard it but Jung-Kyung. She immediately tried contacting Joon-Young, that was the period he was waiting for Song-Ah in a cafe. Once he heard the audio he rushed out and we didn't know until this episode that he had gone to Yoo's office. Though it was late the professor was still there and
Joon-Young did let Yoo know how disappointed he was with his scheme.

**** After writing this up viewed the next pair of shows and things got cleared up a bit better. What Yoo had done was to purchase a recording device for the piano that kept track of the playing and in it's memory could actually play the same notes on a piano but the audio was still of Joon-Young playing. Still find it hard to believe that a respected professor would have to stoop to such a level.

But Joon-Young wimped out a bit and didn't pursue the matter as forcibly as he should have, the main problem was how could he prove it was really him on the recording? Shortly after that Joon-Young returned home where he met Jung-Kyung who to her credit was trying to help her ex-friend out but for the tenth time Joon-Young told her to leave and he never wanted to see her again. After that is when
Song-Ah saw her departing the apartment building, we're at about the ten minute mark and that scene of the two meeting was where the last recap ended. Most of this post will be dealing with that secret recording that Yoo took, it'll become slightly resolved but not completely. Once again will give
Jung-Kyung same credit as she did visit Yoo's office and slyly threatened him to delete the video and make an apology, with her grandmother Na being the CEO of the Kyunghoo Foundation she does have some pull.

Every character and then some knew about the recording save for the closest person to Joon-Young, that of course is Song-Ah. Once again he doesn't want his girlfriend to know about a tragic event in his life so kept it hidden, keeping Song-Ah in the dark is the main reason Joon-Young wants the recording deleted. He tried enlisting the help of Cha who is the office director at the Kyunghoo Foundation, they've known each other for fifteen years and he can depend on her more than anyone in the world. I've really liked Cha myself, her role has been a medium sized one but wish it was larger. She said because the foundation was no longer Joon-Young's agency he would have to ask his new manager Park to start the proceedings to get the video deleted. At their little get together Joon-Young did tell Cha about not wanting Song-Ah to find out about the incident, she was the only person he revealed that to.

Joon-Young did meet up with Park about the recording but no mention was made of his attempts to book some performances for Joon-Young who desperately needs the money. Park did say he could get the video taken down but it was still up the following day, however by the end of the next day he was successful. But in the meantime naturally Song-Ah did hear about it, more on that near the end. In that bottom screenshot above is Hyun-Ho, we did see a bit more of him in these shows and have a feeling he'll be playing an important part in the last two recaps. He was meeting Jung-Kyung in that pic who told her ex-boyfriend about what Yoo had done to Joon-Young but Hyun-Ho, like everyone, was powerless to do anything. Him and Joon-Young had been friends for fifteen years but have been estranged for many episodes and thought by now they would have cleared the air.

We only saw Hyun-Ho one more time during the second episode and finally there was a happy event. He had received his Masters in music at an American school but it was so long ago forget where. Before his return to Korea Hyun-Ho had auditioned for the NYC Symphony Orchestra but it was so many months ago he had forgotten all  about it. But he's just gotten a text from it's director who wants him to become a full time member of the orchestra. Hyun-Ho was definitely torn on what to do but with his relationship with Jung-Kyung in tatters along with being Joon-Young's friend up in smoke it appeared he's accepted the position. We didn't hear Hyun-Ho come right out and say it but we saw him  having a conversation  with his mother at her store who hugged him tightly, we presume he told her about returning to America.

When I mentioned that Song-Ah had learned of the recording and eventually heard it who should be the guilty blabber but Jung-Kyung, probably thought that doing a good deed would tarnish her devilish image. She told Song-Ah when they bumped into each other at the college, to me it's become a case of if Jung-Kyung can't have Joon-Young than no woman can, especially Song-Ah. After hearing the recording shortly before it's deletion Song-Ah has had a mini breakdown which you can see above. To our surprise she even damaged her violin when she fell on it at home though it hasn't been getting much use lately. She brought it to her ex-friend Dong-Yun's shop and think it's the first time the pair have talked to each other in over five shows. He should be able to repair it but couldn't understand how a bridge on a violin could break. That was the beginning of the second to last scene but I'm thinking it may have happened before the scene that ended the show took place.

Dong-Yun can fix the violin but it won't be until the next recap. While he was examining it he kept trying to get Song-Ah to tell him what was wrong, she had been sitting there looking like she had five minutes to live. Dong-Yun just couldn't take seeing his friend in such a depressing state, he excused himself saying he needed to rush to a store and to hold tight for him. But what Dong-Yun did was to contact Song-Ah's ex-best friend Min-Seong, there are so many 'ex relationships'. The pair had been estranged for so many shows, it was mainly because of Min-Seong who had been meaning to apologize to Song-Ah but couldn't bring herself to do it. The pair had a teary reunion but we didn't hear what either said, that led into the final scene which I think happened before this one,

After bearing the bogus recording that Yoo stole from Joon-Young Song-Ah just couldn't take his secretness any longer and finally confronted him at a college music room. To me their problems have all been Joon-Young's fault as he just never would completely open up to Song-Ah, especially about any problems. Song-Ah was just so tired of him being so protective, she's a grown woman and can take the news of anything. Joon-Young really had no response to any of Song-Ah's complaints, all he could keep saying was 'I'm Sorry' which actually made her even more irate. Song-Ah has really grown into a forceful woman and have been glad to see that, she told Joon-Young that their relationship is now kaput and just didn't want to discuss it any longer. She left the building to find it raining heavily outside, appearing with an umbrella was Joon-Young. Had a feeling that may have been the moment the two reconciled but it wasn't to be as Song-Ah left on her own which ended the 28th episode.

Things do get a bit rosier in the next recap, actually quite a bit but there was a very sad event. Halfway through the recaps and for some reason they're taking much longer than expected, should have taken two days off from regular posting and just done these. So much happened in the next show and while the mood was still a bit gloomy the pair of episodes were the best in a while.
