"Tantei☆Hoshikamo" drama: Episode four recap

Air Dates: April 26th until June 28, 2021 on NTV, Tuesdays at 1:00 am
Subs were done by Jumping Storm/hsjhoshi at LJ

Main Cast: Very small one really, just the top two characters get much screen time though the third person does to an extent and so don't each episode's 'victims'.

Daiki Arioka as Hoshi(kamo).... His full name is Hoishikamo but is always called Hoshi in this show so will refer to him by that name. Hoshi is a private detective whose office is in a second hand goods store that was left to him when his parents died, he's close to thirty in age. He's quite frightened of women and has rules set up to how close they can get to him. Hoshi doesn't appear to need money that badly and is extremely frustrated that most cases he gets are cheating ones between spouses.

Yuki Katayama as Tsugumi Karato.... Hoshi's new assistant at the store and also for his detective cases. She hired herself for those positions and also had hired Hoshi as an investigator in the first show to track her 'stalker'.

Yoshinori Okada as Detective Soda.... Local detective for the police force and such a bumbler you wonder how he ever got that position.

Keisuke Horibe as Joe.... Hoshi's sensei/mentor but have only seen him for a minute in the first two shows.

Links to the previous shows, would read the first recap if you haven't to see what's going on:

This should be the easiest and shortest drama I'll ever recap but sure I'll find a way to screw it up! So far I haven't and still undecided on whether to recap this entire series, there's six more episodes after this one. When a drama has a major storyline from the first to the final episode you should recap every show. But this one doesn't have a major storyline though a minor one about a murder case. Each episode is a stand alone case so sometimes with dramas like this will do a few posts to introduce it for potential viewers. To date it's been fun but not an essential watch at all though do have to say Yuki looks mighty fine and does get a lot of screen time.

There wasn't an official case for Hoshi to solve this show but he was hired for an assignment. At the very top you can see Tsugumi playing the immensely popular game 'Survival Code', she's quite good at it and like too many humans is addicted to phone games. Hoshi doesn't have time for modern games as he does appear to be a bit illiterate around modern technology. But he is into very old arcade games and purchased an old style pinball game at the beginning of the show. That 'Survival Game' is what this episode revolves around as the number one player in the world has hired Hoshi for a task!

Of course he had no clue who this man was whose user name is Ranta. But of course Tsugumi knew who this man was and she was in seventh heaven being so close to one of her Idols. As most online users do Ranta had told some tall tales about himself, especially about his looks and as you can see above he's no Adonis. There was a female on his team that had fallen for Ranta, not just because he's the world's best game player but because of his supposedly handsome looks and sparkling personality. Ranta has none of those qualities and in a huge mistake agreed to go out on a date with that woman named Domiko. There's no way she can see his true self so would Hoshi be willing to play Ranta on a date? Needless to say Hoshi had to be the worst man Ranta could have asked as he has such a phobia around women but Tsugumi overrode his wishes and he's about to go out on his first date!!!!

Of course Hoshi would have no clue what to do on a date as he's never been on one so he's really going to have to depend on Tsugumi. You see her in a few screenshots above and she's communicating with Hoshi who has a small earphone. Tsugumi is telling him how to act and talk, especially with details of the 'Survival Code' game which Hoshi knows zero about. He did make one minor mistake which you'll hear about at the end but we did miss about a third of the date. That's because the batteries in Tsugumi's mini walkie talkie went dead and she just slithered back to the office/used goods store. But you can see above Hoshi explaining a few things that took place, he was surprisingly calm being so close to a woman for a long period of time and will we ever learn why he has a phobia about females?

His good time was about to end for bursting into the store then was the detective Soda. We've only been seeing him in one scene the last three episodes, that's a shame as I wish a bit more time was devoted to the murder case. That took place in the first show, in the third episode the man's name was discovered which was Kurotani and he had gone to detective school with Hoshi. Soda has been at a complete loss to date with the case, Hoshi has helped out by telling Soda about a major clue and has given him some other pointers but all to no avail. At the murder scene a scrubbing brush was found near the victim's body, it was bought at Hoshi's shop and could he have sold the murder weapon? 'Hogwash' replied Hoshi, there's no way a scrubbing brush could kill a person and he wondered why Soda kept coming to him with such out of this world theories, that ended this way too short scene.

Busy afternoon for Hoshi as shortly after the detective departed roaring in to the shop was Ranta and fumed what happened on the date? While Hoshi thought he did a solid job with the woman Domiko it turned out he flubbed something rather badly. Of course Domiko would ask the world's top player for some hints and help about playing 'Survival Code', she had asked about a secret weapon in the game. Tsugumi had given Hoshi the correct answer via their microphones but he heard her words entirely wrong. Hoshi should have responded with 'Snap Claw' but somehow thought his assistant said 'Sand Bag', what a blooper that was!

So now Domiko is wondering if Ranta was a fraud, how is Hoshi going to patch things up? Very easily as you can see above as he set up a second date for the pair. Ranta wasn't the only person to pull a fast one as so didn't Domiko as that wasn't her on the date with Hoshi but her friend Aki! So the pair both apologized endlessly and both were just so afraid the other would think so lowly if they met their 'real selves' but what would have happened if they did hit it off? So in a happy ending the pair have set up another date as they did take an instant liking to each other, watching in the wings at the cafe were Hoshi and Tsugumi.

That brings us to the end of this episode, as I said in the previous recap an extra few minutes a show would help as sometimes these ending have been a bit rushed. This has been an okay time killer, I'm enjoying it enough where odds are good I will finish recapping the entire series which is ten shows. But the next posts wouldn't be until I finish recapping two other series, one should be completed this week while the other the following week.
